In the wake of the prevailing situation in Afghanistan where the Taliban have seized power, India has introduced a new category of e-visa for Afghan nationals to fast-track their applications for entry into India. These visas will be valid for six months only and will be granted only after security clearance, sources said. “MHA reviews visa provisions in view of the current situation in Afghanistan. A new category of electronic visa called “e-Emergency X-Misc Visa” introduced to fast-track visa applications for entry into India,” a statement from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said on Tuesday.
Sources said the visa is being granted to facilitate the stay of Afghan nationals fleeing Afghanistan for six months in India. There is no clarity yet on what will happen after this validity period expires. India does not have a refugee policy and grants shelter to foreigners facing persecution in their countries on a case-to-case basis. “India already provides X Miscellaneous category visa to foreigners whose purpose of entry into India does not match with any prescribed category. In the case of Afghanistan, the e-visa facility was not extended to the nationals of that country until now. However, since our mission is now shut in Afghanistan, people are being allowed to get online visas. All
these applications, however, will first be cleared by security agencies,” a home ministry official said. According to MHA’s visa policy, foreign nationals applying for a visa for a purpose, which is not specifically covered under any visa category, may be granted ‘X-Misc’ Visa for appropriate duration. “Such a visa may be granted only with single entry and for the specific duration taking into account the purpose of visit. If the visa is granted for a period of stay exceeding 180 days, the foreigner will have to register himself/ herself with the FRRO/ FRO concerned within 14 days of arrival. Two Air India flights from the United States that would have normally used Afghanistan air space to arrive in Delhi had to be re-routed and made to halt in the UAE due to fuel considerations. The two flights carrying roughly 600
passengers finally landed in Delhi only a few hours behind schedule since the pilots chose to work beyond their flight duty time limit (FDTL).According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the flying time limit or the FDTL allows a pilot only one landing in a long haul flight. However, Air India pilots flying AI 126(Chicago- Delhi) and AI 174 (San Francisco to Delhi) decided to go beyond it to avoid inconvenience to passengers and cost to the company, AI Pilots’ union said.“The regulator leaves it to the operating pilots to take a call. It is only on a voluntary basis that the pilots operate beyond their time limit. No one can force them to compromise their FDTL,” an ex DGCA official explained that only the pilots of the two airlines were in a position to extend their FDTLs. Officials aware of the development said the flight from Chicago was informed about Afghanistan airspace being closed.

IAF’s C-17 aircraft with over 120 Indian diplomats from Kabul lands in Gujarat This is the second batch of diplomats, officials and journalists evacuated from Kabul. The Indian Air Force aircraft is expected to reach Delhi around 1pm. Agency News: New Delhi The Indian Air Force C-17 heavy-lift aircraft, carrying the second batch of diplomats, officials and journalists from Kabul, landed in Gujarat’s Jamnagar. The IAF aircraft flew from Hamid Karzai International (HKI) Airport around 8am Kabul time with
the help of US forces manning the ATC. Indian ambassador to Afghanistan Rudrendra Tandon is on the flight along with 120 other diplomats and officials. The evacuation comes after 24-hour-long negotiations. The IAF aircraft is expected to reach Delhi around 1pm. India is now waiting for US forces to allow civilian flights
to Kabul for further evacuation. The first batch of Indians came on Sunday via an Air India flight. With no chain of command in Kabul, the Indian ministry of external affairs (MEA) and security officials started bringing evacuees to HKI airport from Monday as negotiations were undertaken with sundry Taliban and other
terrorist groups manning the 15 check posts from the Indian mission in Kabul to the international airport. India apparently had kept two C-17s on stand-by so that officials could be evacuated as soon as the US manned ATC gave a green signal. According to sources based in Kabul, it was part of the withdrawal deal that the Turkish forces would man the HKI airport but Ankara withdrew at the very last minute leading to utter confusion. With all local staff abandoning the ATC and other positions and illiterate Taliban having no idea about manning the air traffic services, it was left to the US to take control. It was due to the ensuing chaos that led to the death of desperate Afghans at the HKI airport .

ED issues fresh summons to Anil Deshmukh in money laundering case Agency News: New Delhi A day after the Supreme Court refused to grant any interim relief to former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh and his son Hrishikesh in the corruptioncum-extortion probe, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoned him to the agency’s South Mumbai office on Wednesday. This is the 5th summons issued to the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader. ED registered a money laundering case against Deshmukh after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed an FIR against him on April 21 following former Mumbai police chief Param Bir Singh’s allegation— levelled in March this year-that Deshmukh had directed a police officer to extort ₹100 crore a month from Mumbai’s hotel and bars. Deshmukh has denied all allegations against

15% of Class 12 science repeaters pass Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) declared the Class 12 science result for repeaters where only 15.32% of the total students have passed the exam. Of the 30,343 students who took the exams, only 4,649 have cleared. This year, the board had cancelled both Class 10 and Class 12 final exams for regular students. For Class 12 Group A boys, of the 7,777 repeaters who took the exams, 1,130 or 14.53% cleared them. In the case of Class 12 Group A girls, the percentage was higher as 297 out of 1,425 or 20.84% cleared the exam.

dispute. According to police, Rajaram Kondareddy, a native of Tamil Nadu and resident of Hatkeshwar area of Amraiwadi, was abducted by the four persons outside his residence on August 14 night. Later, the victim was admitted to LG Hospital with several wounds on head and limbs and in a critical condition where he was declared dead by doctors. The accused in this case have been identified as Chinnaiya Murgesh Nayakkar, Madhavan Murgesh Nayakkar, Chandubhanu Nayakkar and Harish Nayakkar, all residents of Modinagar in Amraiwadi. According to police, the victim had a property dispute with a group and had filed a case 15 years ago.
