SUNVILLA SAMACHAR Punjab Civil body poll Results Singnal Changing Mood Of Voters The humiliating defeat of the BJP and the Akalis in Punjab civic body polls is not merely a small political happening of the state politics, but is a significant one for the national politics of the country. Though, making a clean sweep by the Congress winning six of the seven municipal corporations and emerging as the single largest party in the seventh, is a great boost to the Congress in the state, it has a potential push up the morale of the Congress workers in other states as well. These elections were held amid farmers’ protest against the three farm laws enacted by the BJP led NDA government at the centre that has also got the four labour codes passed by the parliament and subsequently notified. Labour rules are being framed, the draft of which areby and large perceived as antiworker. It is also to be noted that the elections were held inthe urban areas, which are either the market towns for agricultural products or industrialtowns, and thereby the results reflect sentiment of three sections of the society – the peopleinvolved in the agri-market, the working class involved in business and industry, and thepeople adversely affected by the vitiated socioeconomic environment. It is true, that any local body election, even the election to the legislative assemblies of thestates, is contested primarily on local issues. However, these elections of the urban local bodies were not fought local issues as main concern of the people. The chief concern of thepeople this time was which party is most suitable for them in the present circumstances. They thought that the BJP is most dangerous for them which is bent upon on distorting notonly the agri-market through the three farm laws, but also has threatened well-being of theworking class by tampering the labour laws through four labour codes. The relationsbetween the working class and business and industries have somewhat become estranged. The relations between the farmers and the agri-market has also been worsening because ofacrimonious discussions for or against the three farm laws. BJP as a party was seen in theroot of their present distress. BJP leaders felt so much threatened by the public moodagainst them that most of them preferred not to participate in election campaigns. In manyareas people have declared that any BJP leader visiting their area for election campaignswould be greeted with ‘wreaths of shoes’. It was a very bad situation, if viewed with the pointof view of democracy, since no one should be threatened like that for the sake of free andfair election. However, when people were in anger, election campaigns for the BJPcandidates had become too tough. The BJP has traditionally been perceived to be strong inurban areas, but the party’s becoming third in municipal corporations and fourth in municipalcommittees does not augur well for its future.Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) became their next target in line of their fire, since the party wasseen not trustworthy, despite their being quitting the NDA in a bid to retain their support base. People could not forget that SAD was the former accomplice of the BJP which is perceived turning their life miserable and that too in favour of big business houses. Merelydisassociating from the BJP did not work for SAD. There have been several factors for this, one of which is their traditional natural bond existing for a long time. People are still of theview, that SAD would ultimately ally again with the BJP, for both the parties have religious orientation with blatantly communal tendencies. Though, the Hindus and the Sikhs form themajority, they preferred not to vote for the BJP the self-proclaimed defender of Hindutva andSAD the imposing so called custodian of the faith of Sikhism. The existentialism gives itsanswer – when the very survival is at stake, people can do almost anything to survive.People of Punjab has thus rejected the parties and their leaders practicing divisivecommunal agenda in name of religion exploiting the pious religiosity of the India mass. The Congress is ruling the state, and it was but obvious that there were some antiestablishment sentiments among the people. They have certain grievances against theparty, but it was perceived as the least dangerous and people believed that the party at leastwould not put them into any further ‘struggle for survival’. The results of the hung Mogamunicipal corporation, in which the Congress could emerge only as the single largest party,is the clear signal that the party cannot afford to take people granted, even when they areangry against their bête noires. Congress will have to work hard to replicate such success inother states. The lesson for the party is that it should do everything possible for farmers andworking class. It should also avoid the mistakes of setting farmers and working class - Kapilkumar M. Hirpara against business and industries.

Bollywood actress Shraddha Kapoor describes the lockdown phase of last year as one of her crucial phases for self-realisation. Agency News: Mumbai Bollywood actress Shraddha Kapoor describes the lockdown phase of last year as one of her crucial phases for self-realisation. It was a period when she could learn to unlearn and redefine the value of zero, the spiritual meaning of shunya, she says.“I think every time we start a film, we start from zero, from ‘shunya’. Lockdown was a time for me to understand the value of several things, including self-

I also think that it made me more independent, and things like the power of yoga to develop a focussed mind so that I can choose to be a part of any project -- film or entrepreneurial venture -more fearlessly,” Shraddha told IANS. “As an actress, being a part of show business, we have to look in a certain way and that changes also with every film that we do, every

character I play. Recently I invested in a beverage project in which I really do not have to count my calories while having my favourite drinks. In a way, during lockdown, I have understood and redefined the value of ‘shunya’, and now I know the brand of product or even brand of cinema I would like to associate myself with. It is a learning that has happened through last year,” she added.

Rising petrol prices: Gujarat deputy CM Ni- Congress questions govt’s silence on Madtin Patel says low VAT in state has helped! hu Shrivastav’s controversial statement

Sunvilla News: Ahmedabad

Gujarat deputy chief minister Nitin Patel has said that low VAT rates in the state mean it has managed to shield the citizens from a substantial rise in petrol diesel price hike. Patel said that VAT on petrol and diesel was the lowest in Gujarat in the country and this resulted in price hike impact being minimal in the state. Defending the price rise by the Centre where the BJP is in power, Nitin Patel said that crude oil constituted a major import for India and its prices have gone up in the international market and this, in turn, resulted in prices being hiked in the country. He said at present it is around $60 a barrel. He also said that both Central and state revenues have been

hit due to the COVID pandemic and hence the price rise was imperative. He said the Centre’s push towards renewable energy will in the future help reduce our dependence on crude oil and this will, in turn, make the varying prices ineffective for the nation. He said had the UPA worked in pushing renewable energy in the country we would not be facing the present situation.Interestingly when he

was reminded that during the UPA rule international crude oil prices stood at $130 and yet prices in the country had not gone this high, he avoided the question by saying that the UPA would know what it tried to do. Petrol and diesel touched new highs across the country on February 18 after its price was hiked by 34 paise reaching Rs89.88 per litre . Diesel price in the national capital also touched a new high at Rs80.27 due to a 32 paise increase in price. The retail price of petrol touched hundred for the first time hit too and citizens took to social media to post sarcastic comments about the same. Interestingly, as petrol prices touched new high Prime Minister Narendra Modi blamed the previous government’s for the same.

Agency News: Vadodara BJP MLA from Vaghodia, Madhu Shrivastav, has once again raked up a controversy with his statements. While addressing an event in Sayajipura, the BJP legislator said that he keeps police and collector in his pocket and no one can touch him. With civic elections around-thecorner, the Congress too has utilised the opportunity. It

has questioned the Gujarat government of staying silent on the controversial statement of the BJP MLA. This is not the first time when the MLA has raked up controversy. A few days back, he was in news for threatening journalists of getting them beaten up for asking tough questions related to his son’s nomination in the civic elections as an independent candidate. While this controversy was

is a new form of our party’s conventional mass contact drive. The election becomes an occasion to reachout to every person’s heart. Elections bring opportunity to connect the members of each house, each family to BJP. Page committee system is like a rosery linked through one single thread, in which Chief Minister, union minister, state party chief, senior party workers, youths, women, farmers, traders and last labourer – members of all classes are equal partner. This strengthens the

feel of one joint family in party. The process of understanding the issues and problems faced by the people by reaching out to them, and the process of representation for solution of various issues and problems faced by the people, strengthens this chain and provide opportunity to add new chapters to the path of development. A memmonth task of reaching out to 2.25 crore voters through 15 lakh Page Committees is like a movement executed with patience, to fill the ocean by each drop.’‘A voter is a heart beat of democracy. Page Committee – mass public contact drive encourages voters to cast vote. And in that sense, it makes important contribution to strengthen the values of democracy. It is a duty of a sensitive and active party worker to understand the wishes and expectations of the people and prove the self accordingly.

Two candidates for equal number of vacant Rajya Sabha seats – Rambhai Mokariya and Dineshbhai Anavadiya (Prajapati) today filed nomination forms for their candidature in Rajya Sabha by-polls. Two seats are vacant due to demise of Ahmed Patel and Abhay Bharadwaj. Rambhai Mokariya has filed nomination for the seat vacant due to demise of Abhay Bharadwaj. Therefore his term as Rajya Sabha MP will be nearly six years long. Dinesh

Prajapati has filed nomination for the seat vacant due to demise of Ahmed Patel. Therefore he will be MP for left over term of Ahmed Patel which is nearly three years. BJP candidates filed forms in presence of Dy CM Nitin Patel and State BJP chief CR Patil among others. As BJP has sufficient strength to elect both candidates to Rajya Sabha comfortably, opposition Congress party may not field its candidates and therefore both BJP candidates are likely to be declared victorious unopposed.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has penned down a letter congratulating the ‘Page Committee – Maha JanSampark Abhiyan’, initiated by the Gujarat unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Gujarati language. Presented here is rough translation of that to English:‘For any large tree, its seed and roots are important. Same way, for any political party, a dedicated ground level worker is an asset like a foundation. Public contact by party workers ultimately result into public service.’‘BJP is not just a political party. It is an organization of countless workers, dedicated to an ideology. A party worker connects each person to party’s policy, action and programmes. And in that sense, a party worker becomes a voice of large population.’ ‘Page Pramukh

Patel, however, remained silent on whether any disciplinary action against Madhu Shrivastav will be taken on not. Earlier this month, the BJP leadership had expressed its unhappiness with Madhu Shrivastav and his son after the latter filed his nomination as an independent

candidate. The MLA has said that he will campaign for his son if he contests the election as an independent candidate. The saffron party raked up the issue of Dipak’s three children with the returning officer and eventually his nomination was rejected. BJP’s Gujarat chief CR Patil has said that action will be taken against people who are involved in anti-party activities. Notably, after the BJP denied ticket to Dipak, the father-son duo started a rebellion against the saffron party. The MLA was confident that he will ensure a ticket for his son, but the new guidelines released by the party for the selection of candidates for the local body elections made it almost impossible for the legislator to secure a ticket for his son.
