Putting and end to speculations, the BJP on Saturday declared Yogi Adityanath as the next chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, said. Yogi, who is an MP from Gorakhpur, is known for having a staunch Hindutva ideology and making anti-Muslim statements. The decision to make Yogi the chief minister was taken at BJP legislature meeting in Lucknow. Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dinesh Sharma will be the deputy CMs of the state. The BJP had swept the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections by winning 312 of the 403 assembly seats. Adityanath’s name

was proposed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suresh Khanna and was supported by Union Information and Broadcasting Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu. Known for his firebrand Hindutva image, the 44-year-old Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader comes from the Rajput community and is the head of the Gorakhnath Mutt in Gorakhpur, which has millions of followers from eastern UP and neighbouring Nepal. He has been elected as the Lok Sabha MP from Gorakhpur uninterrupted from 1998. A science graduate, Adityanath is popular for his fiery speeches among his

supporters but has antagonised minorities by his speeches and statements like Love Jihad, Ghar Wapasi. Later, addressing the media, Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu, who along with BJP general secretary Bhupendra Yadav was present at the meeting as central observer for the election, told a press conference that Adityanath’s name

After demonetisation, Rs 6000 crore tax collected on unexplained cash deposits: SIT on black money (H.S.) | New Delhi

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) on black money revealed on Friday that after demonetisation, the central government has collected around Rs 6,000 crore as tax on unexplained cash deposits so far. According to a report in Times of India, Justice Arijit Pasayat, Vice-chairman of the SIT on black money, added that the amount could further go up. The report says that the tax authorities sought explanation from those who deposited substantial amount of cash either in their own account or in the name of others after the ‘note ban’ came into effect. Many of these people agreed to avail the amnesty scheme which allowed compounding by

payment of 75 per cent of the deposits as tax, compared to the earlier 60 per cent. The SIT Vice-chairman , however, refused to give an estimate of the tax that is likely to be collected from unexplained cash deposits as a fallout of the ‘note ban’ although he exuded confidence that the amount could be substantial. Justice Arijit Pasayat also revealed that the SIT focused on cash deposits of Rs 50 lakh or more during the first phase of the drive against black money post-demonetisa-

tion. He further revealed that Emails and SMSes have been sent to all such depositors all across India. Some of them opted for amnesty scheme while many others are yet to respond to these notices. ”As many as 1092 people, who had deposited over Rs 50 lakh, have not yet responded to notices,” Justice Arijit Pasayat said. Interestingly, according to Justice Pasayat, even in a state like Odisha which is generally considered poor, thousands of people responded to the emails.

As soon as the BJP won a clear majority in the Uttarakhand Assembly elections securing 57 seats for itself while reducing Congress party tally to 11, speculations were rife about who would be the next chief minister of the state. Doiwala MLA Trivendra Singh Rawat’s name was finalised at meeting attended by Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar,

BJP general secretary Saroj Pandey and BJP’s state in-charge Shyam Jaju and newly-elected BJP MLAs. Pat Cummins was picked in to replace Mitchell Starc when the latter suffered a stress fracture on his right foot. He had recently picked eight wickets in the Sheffield Sheid and had earned a call up after representing the national colours 1946 days ago. Many called this a brave move to replace a solid seamer with someone who hasn’t played in a very long time. But on the first proper full day to showcase his talent, Cummins has shown his best and validated his selection in the team – let alone the squad. The last

Test he played was in 2011. And as he officially held the ball for the very first time in a Test on Friday, the feeling of euphoria can only be felt by a few. The feeling of coming back into the profession you love after nearly six years. To add to his joy, Cummins would go on and pick up the wicket of India’s highest scorer in the series – KL Rahul. A slow

bouncer has Rahul trying to sway out of the line but the ball cuts back in to find his glove and it lobs for an easy take for keeper Matthew Wade. The plan was clear as far as Cummins was concerned. Keep the bowling moving or try to keep it swinging in the air and then also chip in with some bouncers here and there to keep the batsmen guessing.

In its first cabinet meeting, the newly formed Punjab government today decided to completely shun the VIP culture by removing the red, yellow and blue beacons from their official vehicles. The state cabinet’s first meeting was chaired by Capt Amarinder Singh. During the meeting, all Cabinet ministers unanimously decided to do away with the beacons atop their official vehicles. “My Cabinet has decided to rid the state VIP culture. 2 / Dt. 19-03-2017, Sunday Editors’ Picks SUNDAY, MARCH 19, 2017

Next two years, the Modi govt is likely to focus on reforms The dramatic outcome of the Uttar Pradesh (UP) elections is a game changer. Many had forecast after the exit polls that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would win by a handsome majority. But the awesome scale of its victory, capturing over 75% of the seats, was unexpected. It has been backed by an equally impressive victory in Uttarakhand, and the formation of BJP-led governments in Goa and Manipur. It is a great political moment for the BJP, and the karyakartas of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) who have powered the party to success. But it has to be recognized that in the main, this is a major victory for Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. The dynamics of the new political balance that has now emerged will have far-reaching implications for the key political events to follow: the elections of the new president and vice-president, elections in other states and, most importantly, the next general election in 2019. Even a week is a long time in politics it is said. But unless something dramatic happens to change the current trajectory of politics, it is now virtually certain that the BJP will return to power in the next national election as well. Modi will indeed be the prime minister for at least 10 years, as he had hoped when he first became prime minister in 2014. Given this background, it is a good time to speculate about the prospects of economic reforms. Economists often discuss the prospects of reform in the framework of a political business cycle. In a five-year term, a new government spends the first year getting itself organized. In the fourth year, its policy decisions are tempered to favourably position the ruling party for the next election and the fifth year is spent campaigning. So typically a government has just the second and third years to push through tough reforms. The Modi government will soon be completing the third year of its political cycle and it should start getting into election mode after that. However, the virtual certainty of a second term makes the cycle somewhat elastic without altogether eliminating it. Elections will still have to be won in 2019 and the massive popular support for Modi and the BJP will have to be sustained. Hence, notwithstanding the dramatically favourable UP election results despite demonetisation, it is unlikely that the government will want to launch any major painful reform until after the 2019 general election. Thus, during the next two years the government is likely to focus on reforms which are almost ready to roll out or those which cannot be postponed without risking economic stability. Also, all reforms are not bitter pills.

Bruce Lee movie review live audience troll check out here

QUOTE OF THE DAY

Bruce Lee, the performing artist who was a combative technique master, is an amazing name in south India. His film Enter The Dragon, that discharged in the 1970’s, kept running for a considerable length of time, even in little stations in the south. So the creators of GV Prakash’s new film, drove by executive Prasanth Pandiaraj, titled their film Bruce Lee, as it has enormous title esteem. However GV Prakash’s Bruce Lee would make the late legend hand over

his grave. The film, which was touted as a dark comic drama, is awkward and has neither a story nor style. The droll silliness in the film is constrained. A young man, who is a sissy, is given the name Bruce Lee by his hovering mother since he enjoys viewing the legend’s movies on TV. He grows up into a lily-livered young fellow (GV Prakash), who does not have a spine. His better half (Kriti Kharbanda) or closest companion (Bala Saravanan) dependably ventures into battle his fights.

“The Bharatiya Janata Party which campaigned in Uttar Pradesh seeking votes for development has chosen controversial Hindutva leader and Gorakhpur MP Yogi Adityanath as the state’s chief minister” Not only did the firebrand leader campaign for BJP, but several time s he claimed that several Hindutva issues were part of BJP’s poll agenda.

Karishma Tanna to play Madhuri Dixit? Here’s what she has to say Agency | New Delhi

Rajkummar Hirani has earned some browny points with an ensemble cast for his much-anticipated Sanjay Dutt’s biopic. The maverick director who is coming up with a film after two years, has managed to bring in actors like Ranbir Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Dia Mirza, Manisha Koirala and Paresh Rawal for the movie which will not gloss over the controversies associated with Sanjay Dutt. While we were still wondering whether or not Sonam Kapoor’s character in the film will be modelled on Madhuri Dixit, who famously dated Dutt, we now hear that the 3 Idiots director has roped in small screen actor Karishma Tanna to essay the role of one of the many love interests of the Munna Bhai MBBS actor. Revealing the details about her role, Karishma told indianexpress.com, “I am doing a guest appearance. I

am sharing screen space with Ranbir Kapoor, but I am not exactly playing Sanjay Dutt’s love interest, I am one of his encounters… It’s just a cameo but I would take my role as important as it is a biopic on Sanjay Dutt, so whatever is important in his life is being shown in the film.” The ex-Bigg Boss contestant has already shot for the film in a three-day schedule. Karishma Tanna stepped into showbiz in 2000, with Ekta Kapoor’s Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. She however rose to fame only after her stint in reality television shows – Bigg Boss 8, Nach Baliye and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. Karishma has often been referred to as the dancing queen of Indian television. So, is it this title that helped Karishma bag the role of Madhuri Dixit in the film? And if Karishma plays Madhuri, will Sonam Kapoor play Tina Munim? Well, for that, we have to wait for the release of the film.

From the time Katrina Kaif stepped into the Indian film industry, more has been spoken about her personal life, than her films. During her initial years in the industry, it was speculated that Katrina bagged many roles because of her then rumoured boyfriend Salman Khan. And for Salman, it was believed that the actor will finally get away with his bachelor tag for Katrina. But in 2008, things apparently went sour between the couple and they ended up being ‘just friends.’ Now that the former couple is coming back after five years in Tiger Zinda Hai, fans of the couple who love their crackling chemistry, cannot wait to

catch a glimpse of their favourite stars. Well, even we can’t. So, we got hold of some of their recent photoshoot pictures in which the duo look lovely together. According to the reports, Salman and Katrina signed an endorsement deal for the Middle-East based fashion brand Splash and the actors have now done a photo shoot for the same. The pictures from the brand endorsement have been going viral on the in-

ternet. Though the actors have neither shared the pictures nor commented anything about it, various fan clubs of Salman and Katrina have given a sneak peek into the recent pictures. The doctors strictly advised her rest and to refrain from any physical activity or exertion for a few days.

Original Begum Jaan Rituparna Sengupta upset that Vidya Balan was director Srijit Mukherji’s first choice for Rajkahini Agency | New Delhi

Rituparna Sengupta, the star behind the Bengali version of Begum Jaan starring Vidya Balan is not only shocked that her Rajkahini director, Srijit Mukherji always wanted Vidya Balan to play the lead role in both the versions of his film, but she is also confused about why he mentioned it. Apparently, Srijit hadn’t discussed that he had initially thought to make Begum Jaan, a bilingual, with Vidya Balan in the lead. In fact, the director specifically approached Rituparna to play the role. Even when she was doubtful about pulling it off, he trusted her to make the role work for the film. “I am not aware that he had wanted Vidya in Rajkahini, too. Or why he’s saying that today. We were in talks about doing a film together for the longest time. Srijit had told me that he would come to me only when he had a role which matters. I was in Delhi attending an event.

Reliance Jio Claims Foul Over Airtel’s Fastest 4G Network Claims

Agency | Mumbai

Ever since mobile data begin to dominate the telecom industry, companies have been trying to outpace each other by trumpeting the speeds their networks are generating whether it’s on television commercials or social media campaigns. Airtel, in particular, has been aggressively advertising its network as the “The Fastest 4G Network Ever” for over a year across the country. However, we’ve learned from people familiar with the matter, that Reliance Jio is unhappy with Airtel’s claims as it looks flawed due to a drastic bug found in Ookla’s Speedtest app. The defect in Ookla’s Android app has been displaying incorrect results whenever you run a speedtest on a Dual SIM handset. It only takes into account the network on which the calls have been assigned irrespective of the data settings. Hence, for instance, if you’ve configured Airtel for calls and Reliance Jio for data, it will show the network speeds of Airtel no matter on which SIM slot it has been inserted.

Collector to use powers to grant citizenship to Pakistani refugees in Pune Agency | Pune

REFUGEES from Pakistan living in Pune district can now look forward to an opportunity to secure Indian citizenship sans a cumbersome process. The Pune district collectorate is preparing itself to finally use the powers — granted to it by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in December last year — to grant Indian citizenship to Pakistani refugees. As per a MHA order dat-

ed December 26, 2016, the district collectors of Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur and Thane have been conferred with the power to grant citizenship to Pakistani refugees living in their jurisdiction. The process was delayed as the district administration was busy with the municipal elections. District Collector Saurabh Rao told The Indian Express on Thursday, “We have trained the staff with the help of police

Days after terming the protectionist bent of the Donald Trump regime as a “blessing in disguise”, Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) chairman Mukesh Ambani on Saturday said it’s “high time” India promoted reverse braindrain wherein its brightest talent come back and serve the homeland. “It’s

high time that our brightest and the best work for the benefit of India and Indians,” Ambani said. When asked whether he sees a reverse braindrain, he quipped “without doubt”. “By whatever fate they are brought back to this country, they can help improve the lives of 1.3 billion citizens and put togeth-

1,000 crore for MSMEs in our 2017-18 budget,” Rupani said. While replying to Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) president Bipin Patel’s question regarding transfer of subsidies to the MSME units, he said the software for implementing a single window system for this was also in its final stage. “It will ensure that subsidies meant

for the MSME sector are transferred directly to the units. We are working towards ensuring complete transparency,” said Rupani Currently the MSME sector is under Industries Commissionerate of the state, which had begun an MSME Facilitation Desk in February, 2016, to assist the small and medium players in setting up business units. In 2016, Gujarat was just behind Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra in reporting maximum number of sick MSME units. While interacting with the industrialists, the chief minister also faced questions on why Gujarat had slipped to third position in “ease of doing business” ranking in India.

Race for CM candidate hots up in Congress in poll-bound Gujarat Sunvilla News | Ahmedabad

Intense lobbying has started for nomination as Congress’ chief ministerial candidate in Gujarat assembly polls to be held later this year. Ever since the party hinted at fighting the polls with a CM face, social media campaigns projecting various leaders have become the order of the day in Gujarat Congress. The front runners in the race are Leader of Opposition Shankarsinh Vaghela and Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Bharatsinh Solanki, according to party leaders. .. Other probables are national spokesperson Shaktisinh Gohil, Arjun Modhwadia and Siddarth Patel, both

This operation was jointly conducted by the Agartala police,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police, ATS, K K Patel, who led the operation, along with his two subordinates – inspector Nikhil Brahmbhatt and sub-inspector Chandrashekhar Panara – from Ahmedabad. Patel said that Habib, a resident of Nobedpura at Jogindernagar in Agartala, had allegedly facilitated several accused to cross over to Bangladesh. He said one accused, Abdul Aziz, one of the masterminds, who continues to be absconding, was helped by Habib to cross over to Bangladesh after the terror attack.

former state unit chiefs. “There is a race between Vaghela and Solanki to get declared as the chief ministerial candidate and intense lobbying is on with the central leadership,” Congress sources said. Many in the party believe that Congress this time has a good chance to defeat the BJP in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state. They say factors like the absence Modi from the scheme of things in Gujarat, Patel quota agitation, Dalit unrest, anti-incumbency and want of a credible leader in the BJP could all work in Congress’ favour. The BJP has been in power in Gujarat since 1998.

2011, a court in Bangalore had convicted six of the accused. ATS sources said several accused were still at large and arrest warrants had been issued against them. Besides, ATS officials said that Habib’s role was revealed in the statement of another accused, Sabahuddin, a resident of Patna, who is among the convicts. Sabahuddin had allegedly told the Bengaluru police that he was assisted by Habib in crossing over to Bangladesh at least twice during the planning of the attack. “We had kept surveillance fessor was killed while and found his movement four others had suffered suspicious. A Ludhiana farmer’s battle for proper compensation for land seized to build a Ludhiana-Chandigarh railway line reached an unexpected conclusion this week when a court awarded him a train. Sampuran Singh has been fighting for the money since 2015, when he went to court to argue that Indian Railways had underpaid him for a piece of land in the northern state of Punjab, acquired to build new tracks. He won his case, but the railway refused to pay and he filed another plea in January. On Friday, Singh’s lawyer said a court in the state had awarded him an express train in lieu of the 10 million rupees he was

owed. “We were tired of pleading with the railways to clear the pending dues. The court asked us to identify properties for recovering our money,” Rakesh Gandhi told AFP. Judge Jaspal Verma also granted Singh ownership of the station master’s office in Ludhiana, a city in Punjab that the train passes through. After the hearing on Wednesday Singh and his lawyer took the court order to Ludhiana station where they waited for the train to arrive before handing the document to the driver. Singh said he allowed the driver to carry on to its destination as stopping it “would have caused inconvenience to thousands of passengers”.

After UP election blitz, is BJP now ready for early elections in Gujarat? Sunvilla News | Ahmedabad

It was a cosy dinner in a sultry summer evening at the chief minister’s bungalow in Gandhinagar when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is believed to have asked his party men in Gujarat to ensure a 150 seat win in the upcoming Gujarat Assembly elections. It would be breaking Congress’ record of 149 seats under the leadership of Madhav Sinh Solanki in 1985. After the spectacular win in the country’s largest state Uttar Pradesh, which is aptly deemed as the po-

litical laboratory of sorts, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has now turned its attention to its flagship state Gujarat. A comfortable win in Gujarat is critical for reaffirming the Modi wave that has swept the recent Assembly elections, barring Punjab. Modi is believed to have asked his party MLAs to rise up to the challenge

and break the Congress record. It is indeed a matter of pride for the Modi-Shah team, scoring in homeground. Speculations are rife in Gandhinagar and in Gujarat media circles that the BJP might consider pre-poning the elections here (ahead of a December schedule), to ride on the UP wave. Sources close to the leadership, however, claimed otherwise. Both Modi and Amit Shah are known to have taken feedback from party leaders here on having early elections in Gujarat.
