Union Home Minister Amit Shah Friday said financing of terrorism is more dangerous than terrorism, which cannot and should not be linked to any religion, nationality or group. He also said that terrorists are constantly finding new ways to carry out violence, radicalise youth and raise financial resources and the darknet is being used by terrorists to spread radical content and conceal their identities. “Terrorism is, undoubtedly, the most serious threat to global peace and security. But I believe that the financing of terrorism is more dangerous than terrorism itself because the ‘means and methods’ of terrorism are nurtured from such funding. “Furthermore, financing of terrorism weakens the economy of countries of the world,” Shah said addressing the third ‘No Money for Terror Ministerial Conference on Counter-Terrorism Financing’ hosted by the Ministry of Home Affairs here. ‘No Jobs November’: Facebook, Amazon, Twitter firings add to near 38,000 layoffs globally Companies all over the world have fired around 38,000 employees in just the first half of the month. As per data accessed by Business Today from layoffs.fyi, a data aggregator, 37,866 people have been terminated from their jobs across the world as of November 16. Meta, the parent company of the social networking site Facebook, has had the largest downsizing round so far. On November 9, 11,000 employees were terminated from the company. Amazon sacked 10,000 people on November 16. Microblogging site Twitter laid off 3,700 people on November 4. Tech and tech-allied companies were the most impacted in this mass termination round. Many, including star investor and markets commentator Ray Dalio, believe that the recent crash indicates that the tech industry was in a bubble. He stresses that most of these companies were not profitable and depended on big-ticket loans or VC funding to stay afloat with negative cash flows. Dalio, the founder of Bridgewater Associates, told, “There was a bubble in tech stocks. Mostly, what’s happening is that a number of these have negative cash flows. That means they didn’t have earnings that will support those prices. And in many cases, they didn’t have earnings. And they relied on either borrowing money to make up the gap or raising venture capital or private equity money. And free money was basically free and plentiful. Money was basically the paradigm.” Dan Ives, the managing director of Wedbush Securities, an investment firm managing funds over $4 billion dollars, told that these job cuts are an indicator of the end of hyper-growth for tech companies. He also said that big tech companies were rationalising cost structures to brace for the impending downturn. He said, “We’re seeing at Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, and others that the clock struck midnight for hypergrowth and now they are making cuts across the board. Amazon is no different. This is a rationalisation of cost structure to brace for slower growth times.” Dalio said that the cash crunch due to negative cash flows is forcing companies to contract or else they would go under. “You’re now seeing those companies who - Kapilkumar M. He was addressing an election rally in Navsari town of south Gujarat for BJP candidate Rakesh Desai. Polling for Navsari seat will be held on December 1 in the first phase in the poll-bound state. “I wonder if Congress has embarked on Bharat Jodo Yatra or Bharat Todo Yatra. Their leaders are saying unite India. But what do they do in real life? Their leader Rahul Gandhi went to JNU in Delhi and supported those who shout slogans in favour of Afzal Guru, the mastermind behind the Parliament attack,” Nadda said. “When Rahul Gandhi was in JNU in support of those who raised such slogans, some people also

raised the slogan ‘Bharat Tere Tukde Honge, Insha Allah Insha Allah’. Your (Rahul Gandhi’s) statement yesterday on freedom fighter Veer Savarkar was also condemnable. It shows they (Congress) can only break the country, not unite it,” Nadda alleged. Brushing aside the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as a “new party”, Nadda said the Arvind Kejriwal-led outfit lost its deposit on 349 of the 350 seats it fought in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls. “Mark my words, they will lose their deposit on all the 67 seats they fought in the recent Himachal Pradesh polls,” he asserted. In another decision of the cabinet, a meeting of which was held here under his chairmanship, Mann said a notification to fix sugarcane rate at Rs 380 per quintal has also been approved. Asked about the Old Pension Scheme, Mann, who was addressing a news conference after the cabinet meeting, said, “OPS has been approved by the cabinet. Details will be given. Many employees will be benefited under the old pension scheme. Notification has been issued.” The old pension scheme, under which the entire pension amount was given by the government, was discontinued in the country from April 1, 2004. In the cabinet meeting held nearly a month ago, the Punjab government had decided to restore the scheme for its employees, which has been their major demand. State Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema had last month said employees will be given the option to join

the Briefing about other decisions of the cabinet, Mann said, “In today’s cabinet meeting, the notification regarding Rs 380 per quintal sugarcane rate has been approved, which is highest in the country.” “We have cleared all outstanding dues of sugarcane from farmers,” he further said. AAP Delhi unit convener Gopal Rai and the party’s MCD election in-charge Durgesh Pathak on Friday flagged off ‘garbage campaign’ vehicles to highlight the BJP’s “garbage mismanagement” ahead of elections to the civic body. Launching the campaign, Rai alleged that the BJP had “littered entire Delhi” in the last 15 years. The BJP has been in power in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) — trifurcated in 2012 into north, south and east corporations and then unified this year — for three straight terms. The campaign vehicles showcase artificial garbage mountains with a banner that reads “Vote for BJP if you want garbage. Vote for Kejriwal if you want cleanliness”. “In the last

15 years, the BJP has littered the entire national capital. Through this campaign vehicle, we will tell Delhiites that if they want garbage in the city, they should vote for the BJP; if they want cleanliness, they should vote for Kejriwal,” Rai said. He further alleged that the BJP’s only “achievement” while running the civic body was creating three landfill sites in Delhi. The 250-ward MCD goes to polls on December 4 while the counting of votes will take place on December 7.

Agency News : Wellington

Having moved on from the T20 World Cup disappointment, India stand-in captain Hardik Pandya on Friday said the ongoing limited-overs tour of New Zealand is all about role clarity and opportunities for new players in the set-up. Hardik, who is leading the side in place of regular skipper Rohit Sharma in the three-match T20 series, said the Indian team doesn’t believe in dwelling on the past. “These guys are young by age, but not by experience. They have played plenty of IPL and got good amount of Internationals as well. I think the youngsters of today don’t get intimidated by not having played too much cricket. “If the situation demands, me

and the more experienced players will play different roles, but this tour is for the new guys to get more clarity, opportunities and a chance to express themselves,” Hardik said after the first T20I was washed out here without a ball being bowled. “The World Cup is done, I’ve left it behind. The disappointment will be there, but we can’t go back and change things. We’re now looking forward to this series,” he added. The three-match T20 series will be followed as many ODIs. New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson said the ongoing series is a good platform to test players like Adam Milne, who didn’t get a shot in the T20 World Cup where both the Kiwis and India exited in the semifinal stage.

Budweiser has been the exclusive World Cup brand since 1986 and parent company AB InBev renewed its deal through 2022 with FIFA in a 2011 signing after Qatar was confirmed as host. In September, organisers of the

Does professional football David Warner, Smith snuff cause testicular cancer? out England’s challenge Agency News : Adelaide

Agency News : New Delhi Four cases of testicular cancer have recently been diagnosed in the Bundesliga. Is that a coincidence? Or is the disease linked to competitive sport? For experts, the answer is clear. Four recent diagnoses of testicular cancer in the Bundesliga have grabbed attention and shocked many. While Timo Baumgartl (Union Berlin) and Marco Richter (Hertha Berlin) have recovered and are back on the pitch, Sebastien Haller (Borussia Dortmund) and Jean-Paul Boetius (Hertha Berlin) are still on the road to recovery — Haller has since had to undergo a second operation. Is this cluster of testicular cancer cases a coincidence? Or do the

diagnoses have some connection to professional sport? “This is an accumulation that may be coincidental,” sports physician Wilhelm Bloch told. Bloch is a sports medicine specialist who has been researching cancer and sport for many years and works at the German Sport University Cologne. “Most of the scientific studies show that there is no accumulation,” Bloch said, adding that testicular cancer is a disease that most often strikes men at a young age.

Australia’s top order fired in unison to secure a six-wicket win over England with Dawid Malan’s career-best 134 for the visitors going in vain in the first ODI at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday. Four days after winning the T20 World Cup in Melbourne, England slumped to 66/4 in the 14th over as Australia’s pace attack, led by Cummins (3/62), breathed fire with the new ball, vindicating their decision to

Producer-director David Nutter testified at the Harvey Weinstein trial, called by the prosecution to corroborate details of an accuser’s story. Nutter, best known as Emmy-winning executive producer and director of ‘Game of Thrones’, came up earlier this week in the trial when a woman accusing Weinstein of rape told the jury that she confided in Nutter after she was allegedly assaulted by Weinstein, reports Variety. She said that Nutter was the first person she told about the incident in question. Nutter was working with the model and actor - who is known in the case as Natassia M. -

on a commercial in 2007 or 2008. During his testimony, Nutter said that Natassia M. is now a friend and someone he has mentored in the industry. He had hired her on a few shows throughout the years, including ‘Dark Angel’. In Oct. 2009, Natassia M. called Nutter to disclose her encounter with Weinstein in London. On the call, she was upset and emotional and seemed “out of sorts,” he said.

“She didn’t seem like the Natassia I knew.” “She spoke very slowly, she spoke very hesitantly,” Nutter recalls of that phone call. She told him that she was sexually assaulted and that “someone came into a room and was forceful with her.” She disclosed to Nutter that the alleged perpetrator was Weinstein. Asked by the prosecutor if he shared any advice with Natassia, Nutter said that he told her that he would defend her and “just watch yourself, be careful.” During crossexamination, Weinstein’s attorney Mark Werksman asked Nutter if Natassia M. informed him that he would take a stand to corroborate her story.
