Modi also asked political commentators to stop seeing everything through the prism of politics. “Political commentators had claimed (in 2019) that the laying of the foundation stone for the airport was an election gimmick. But today when there are no elections due, we are launching this airport. This airport is a slap on their face,” the prime minister said. For long, the North East was neglected while today, the region gets top priority when it comes to development, he said. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s grandnephew files PIL in Calcutta HC on distortion of history

Agency News : New Delhi The Delhi High Court has held that political parties cannot consider election symbols as their “exclusive property” and the right to use a symbol can be lost if a party’s performance is dismal. The high court’s observation came while dismissing an appeal by Samata Party challenging a single judge’s order which had rejected its plea against allotment of ‘flaming torch’ election symbol to the Uddhav Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena. The appellant party claimed that the ‘flaming torch’ symbol belonged to it and that it had contested elections on it. A bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad also referred to a previous verdict of the Supreme Court in Subramanian Swamy vs. Election Commission of India case and said the judgment further stated that a symbol is

not a tangible thing nor does it generate any wealth. “It is only the insignia which is associated with the particular political party so as to help the millions of illiterate voters to properly exercise their right to franchise in favour of the candidate of their choice belonging to a particular party. The parties concerned cannot consider the symbol as its exclusive property. The Election Symbols Order, 1968 makes it very clear that the right to use the symbol can be lost with the dismal performance of the party,” the bench said in its order. It said even though Samata Party members were permitted to use the flaming torch symbol.

Sanitation, Health, Hygiene Connected to Active Daily Choices, Says Dia Mirza at Mission Swachhta Aur Paani Telethon Agency News : New Delhi Actor Dia Mirza said sanitation, health and hygiene were all connected to active daily choices. India’s UN Goodwill Ambassador said the country had made significant strides in the right direction when it came to cleanliness. An environment activisit, Mirza spoke about her passion and purpose. “What got me started was the realisation that our individual health was connected to the health of the environment. Our actions have farreaching consequences and how we choose to live each day will not just have an impact on our own health but also on others’ health,” she said, wishing all viewers a “Happy World Toilet Day”. Mirza, who carries her own water bottle everywhere and was clutching one on stage as well, highlighted the importance of doing away with single-use plastic bottles. She said individual choices in this regard could make people more environmentally sound and conscious. “About seven years ago, I was on a journey from the tip of the Ganga to where it flows into the sea and travelled across five states. While I was mesmerised by the pristine beauty

of the river and its surroundings, it also shook me up. Ganga is the second most polluted river in the world, and I saw how much plastic had been discarded into the water body,” she added. The actor further said she decided not to use single-use plastic water bottles from then on as less than 1 per cent of them were actually recycled. “Sanitation, health, hygiene are all connected to active daily choices. I have probably managed to stop a few bottles from entering our waterways with my ‘travelling bottle’,” she said. The actor was joined on stage by sanitation by Padma Shri awardees Gamit Ramilaben Raysingbhai and Usha Chaumar, who threw light on how sanitation was still perceived through the lens of caste-based discrimination due to practices such as manual scavenging. To which Mirza said, “Cleanliness, especially practices such as manual scavenging, is still casterelated issue in India.”

Bharat Jodo Yatra Proceeds from Shegaon; Women Expected to Join in Large Numbers to Mark Indira Gandhi Birth Anniversary

The BJP today attacked Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party over a video of Delhi minister Satyendar Jain, who was arrested in May in an alleged money laundering case, getting a massage in Delhi’s Tihar Jail. Several party leaders shared the video clip on social media, reiterating BJP’s charge that Mr Jain enjoys special treatment in jail. AAP has hit back, calling the BJP ‘shameless’ for making a spectacle of an ailing man getting treatment. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said Satyendar Jain was advised physiotherapy by a hospital after he underwent two spinal surgeries following an injury in jail. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has become ‘spa and massage party’, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said, challenging Mr Kejriwal to explain Satyendar Jain’s conduct in jail. He accused the AAP of hypocrisy on ‘VIP culture’. “Where is Arvind Kejriwal hiding now. Satyendar Jain can be seen enjoying massage and meeting visitors in his cell in total violation of rules and prison laws. This VVIP culture in jail is dangerous for democracy,” Mr Bhatia said in a press conference. Mr Sisodia called the video “BJP’s stunt” to “distract” from upcoming Assembly elections in Gujarat. Addressing the media soon after the video surfaced, he said the video leak was against court directives. The video comes just days after the Superintendent of Tihar Jail, Ajit Kumar, was suspended for alleged VIP treatment of the jailed minister. The action was taken on the recommendation of an inquiry committee constituted by the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi after jailed conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar accused the Superintendent of jail number 7, where Mr Jain is locked up, of extending undue favours. Responding to the video, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that Satyendar Jain was injured while in jail and is getting treatment. AAP had earlier too dismissed the allegations of Mr Jain getting VIP treatment, calling them absurd and baseless. The video, released today, purportedly shows Satyender Jain getting a foot, back and head massage in his cell at Tihar jail. NDTV has not been able to independently verify the video.“VVIP treatment in jail! Can Kejriwal - Kapilkumar M. Hirpara defend such a mantri? Should he not be sacked ?

Jamia Millia Islamia Firm on Savarkar, Congress Punjab: Patiala District Shiv Sena thwarts teachers’ meet reaches out to Party Admin Suspends 274 Arm Agency News : New Delhi

Agency News : New Delhi

Jamia Millia Islamia university on Friday prevented teachers from organising a union meeting following a row over alleged attempts by the administration to thwart the democratic process of elections. An advisory issued by Jamia registrar Nazim Husain Al-Jafri alleged that the meeting, which the teachers later called off, was being planned to “disrupt the smooth functioning of the university”. On Thursday, the university had dissolved the Jamia Teachers’ Association (JTA) and suspended a faculty member for not taking the approval of the authorities to take part in elections of the teachers’ union. The JTA had continued to serve despite its tenure ending in May 2022. The university also sealed the office of the JTA.

The JTA had scheduled the general body meeting on Friday to decide the future course of action. The Jamia advisory asked the faculty members not to attend the meeting and warned of disciplinary action. JTA secretary Mohd Irfan Qureshi was sent a showcause notice asking for an explanation on why a general body meeting had been called when the JTA had been “dissolved”. The JTA cancelled the meeting. The JTA had last month started the process to elect its office-bearers and appointed a professor, Sonya Surabhi Gupta, as the returning office for the elections.

The Congress has reached out to Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena to ensure that the controversy over V.D. Savarkar does not strain ties, but has also argued that historical facts cannot be altered for political convenience. Congress communications chief Jairam Ramesh said: “I had a lengthy talk with Sena leader Sanjay Raut today. He has a completely different view about Savarkar, but we agreed to disagree. He told me that the difference of views on this issue will not disturb the coalition Maha Vikas Aghadhi (MVA).” After Rahul criticised the Hindu Rashtra proponent, Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray reaffirmed his respect for Savarkar. But Rahul has refused to dilute his position, asserting that Savarkar sought mercy from the British and

communications chief Jairam Ramesh says he and Sanjay Raut ‘agreed to disagree’ on the matter

betrayed India’s freedom fighters. Arguing that the MVA was formed on the basis of a common minimum programme despite ideological differences between the Congress and the Sena, Ramesh said: “These are matters of history. There are different perspectives and the debate will go on. Unlike the BJP, the Congress doesn’t believe in rewriting history. If there is historical evidence, we can’t distort it. We don’t reinvent history.

TT: Manika Batra scripts history, Manchester United looking to terminate Many PSBs saddled with becomes first Indian female paddler Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract after ‘no weak assets, high credit respect’ for manager comment to win a medal at Asian Cup Agency News : New Delhi Agency News : Bangkok

Star Indian table tennis player Manika Batra clinched the bronze medal at the ongoing ITTFATTU Asian Cup tournament on Saturday, becoming the first Indian female paddler to win a medal at the event. She won the bronze medal match against World number six and three-time Asian champion Hina Hayata by 4-2. Batra downed her opponent by 11-6, 6-11, 11-7, 12-10, 4-11, 11-2. Earlier, she had lost to Mima Ito in the semifinal match by 2-4 (8-11, 11-7, 7-11, 6-11, 11-8, 7-11). Despite her loss, she played in the bronze medal match and captured the prize. Batra produced a stunning performance to register a victory over World No. 7 Chen Xingtong of China in the first round of the ongoing Asian Cup 2022 tournament in Bangkok, Thailand on Thursday.

Competing at the Huamark Indoor Stadium, World No. 44 Batra defeated the fourth-seeded table tennis player 4-3 (8-11, 119, 11-6, 11-6, 9-11, 8-11, 11-9). Following this, she qualified for the quarterfinal. In the QFs, she defeated Chen Szu-Yu of Taiwan by 4-3 (6-11, 11-6, 11-5, 11-7, 8-11, 9-11, 11-9) to qualify for the semifinal. The current edition of the Asian Cup is being held from November 17 to November 19 at Huamark Indoor Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

Manchester United is looking for ways to terminate star striker Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract with the club following his controversial with Piers Morgan which saw him take shots at the club, its manager Erik ten Hag and some notable players like Wayne Rooney. Ronaldo had criticized the club and said that he has “no respect” for its manager ten Hag. He also claimed that the members of the club’s hierarchy are trying to force him out of Manchester United and doubted him when he expressed his inability to attend pre-season because of his daughter’s illness. After Ronaldo’s statements about the club went viral on internet, United said that the club will consider its response “after the full facts have been established” and in a statement on Friday said that it had “initiated

appropriate steps”. it is clear that there is “close to zero chance” of Ronaldo donning the club’s red colours again. Manchester United has not put any time frame for the process, but they want that the star player’s exit is done cleanly and quickly and in a a way as dignified as possible. They do not want to give Ronaldo a pay-off to leave. Given the will of both Ronaldo and multi-time Premier League champions, it is hoped that a resolution is around the corner. But it would not be easy as his contract is one of the biggest in history of football.

2nd T20I: India Face Bhuvne- Indians not fake football shwar Kumar Dilemma While fans, they name their kids Ronaldo, worship Maradona Praying For Game Time Agency News : New Delhi

Bhuvneshwar Kumar faces an arduous challenge of remaining relevant in shortest format as a young Indian team, seeking some game time, is expected to face tough resistance from New Zealand in the second T20 International on Sunday. The series-opener in Wellington was abandoned due to inclement weather and the Indian players must be itching to get onto the park which, inarguably, has the most scenic backdrop. Ironically, the region where the ground is located is known as ‘Bay

of Plenty’ and Indian cricket at this point has plenty to ponder as far as its approach in T20 format is concerned. While the Sky Stadium was shorter in terms of dimensions, the Indian team will have to make adjustments as the ‘Bay Oval’ ground has bigger side boundaries and is an open ground unlike Wellington. On this tour, the presence of a near 33 year-old Bhuvneshwar is one such dilemma that the team management might have to handle. There are some probing questions and quicker the answers are sought, better it would be for Indian cricket.

Agency News : New Delhi

For those millions of Indian football fans in intense ‘long-standing, long-distance’ relationships with foreign teams and players, it was a cruel low blow. In the lead-up to the FIFA World Cup, a myopic section of the Western media, labelled an overeager bunch of Indians congregated to welcome their favourite teams in Qatar as ‘fake fans.’ Refusing to take the beaming smiles at face value, they alleged that the boisterous reception was choreographed and paid for by the host nation that was

battling bad press. The insulting snub was actually a comment on the abysmal state of the sport in India – a nation of billion, with mass football following but no lasting footprint on the big stage. Over the years, chip by chip, mixed priorities of administrators had killed the once thriving sport. The game’s freefall at home, coupled with the easy access to world-class action abroad, was the reason for the mass change of loyalties. India loves football but they don’t have a team that deserves its affection. Wearing India Blues went out of fashion long back.

S&P Global Ratings stated in its most recent research study on the global banking landscape that while the government-owned State Bank of India (SBI) and top private banks have resolved their asset quality concerns, the same cannot be said of many other Indian public sector banks (PSB). many large PSBs are still saddled with weak assets, high credit costs and poor earnings and the polarisation of the bank performance will persist. Simply put, credit cost is the value of loan loss/bad loans. “Similarly, we expect a mixed-bag performance for finance companies (fincos). The asset quality of these fincos is often weaker than that of major

private sector banks,” the report notes about the Indian banking and financial sector. The global credit rating agency said India’s economic growth prospects should remain strong over the medium term, with gross domestic product (GDP) expanding 6.5 percent-7 percent annually in fiscal years 2024-2026. ”We project the banking sector’s weak loans will decline to 4.5 percent-5 percent of gross loans by March 31, 2024. Likewise, we forecast the credit costs to normalise to 1.2 percent for fiscal 2023 and stabilise at about 1.1 percent-1.2 percent for the next couple of years. This makes credit costs comparable to those of other emerging markets and to India’s 15-year average,” S&P Global said.

India to be world’s 2nd largest economy by 2050: Gautam Adani Agency News : New Delhi Asia’s richest man Gautam Adani on Saturday said India, which took 58 years to become a trillion dollar economy, will add an equivalent sum to GDP every 12-18 months and will be the world’s second largest economy by 2050. Speaking at the 21st World Congress of Accountants here, he said back-to-back global crises have challenged several assumptions, including that China should adopt western democratic principles, secular principles are universal, the EU would stay together, and that Russia would be forced to accept a reduced international role. “This multilevel crisis has

shattered the myth of a unipolar or a bipolar world of superpowers that could step in and stabilize global environments,” he said. “In my view - in this emerging multipolar world - superpowers will need to be those that take responsibility to step in and help others in a crisis and not bully other nations into submission, those that keep humanity as their foremost operating principle.” A superpower.

Assam CM says Mehrauli killing a case of ‘love jihad’, pitches for Modi in 2024 Sunvilla News: Ahmedabad

Assam Chief Minister and BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma has said the horrific murder of Shraddha Walkar allegedly by her live-in partner Aaftab Poonawala is a case of “love jihad”. He also said someone like Aaftab will be born in every city if the country does not get a powerful leader and a government that respects India like one’s mother. Poonawala allegedly strangled Walkar on May 18 in their Delhi flat and sawed her body into multiple pieces, which he kept in a fridge for almost three weeks before dumping them over several days. He was arrested some days ago. The murder, which has hit national headlines and caused huge outrage, was raked up for the first time in the campaign for the Assembly polls in Gujarat, scheduled for December 1 and 5. “Recently, one Aaftab brought Shraddha from Mumbai and cut her into 35 pieces in the name of love jihad. And after that, where

That is why the country should elect Modiji for the third time in 2024 and he will be able to solve such issues,” Sarma further said. Sarma was among three chief ministers, Union ministers, and other Bharatiya Janata Party leaders who participated in the party’s “carpet bombing” campaign” on Friday.
