The Delhi High Court on Thursday refused to entertain a plea challenging the order for a complete ban on firecrackers in the NCT of Delhi till January 1, 2023, noting that similar petitions are pending before the Supreme Court. Justice Yashwant Varma said that as a similar matter is pending before the Supreme Court, it would not be appropriate for the bench to hear the petition now. The petitioner Shiva Fireworks and others had moved a petition through advocates Pranjal Kishore and Aman Bansal. The petitioners are engaged in the sale, purchase and storage of green crackers. They had challenged the order of Delhi Pollution Control Committee
(DPCC) issued on September 14, 2022 directing for a complete ban on the manufacturing, storage, sale and bursting of firecracker in NCT of Delhi till January 1, 2023. The petitioner stated that NGT’s said order expressly allowed the sale and use of green firecrackers in areas where air quality is “moderate”. The petition referred to the apex Court order that, “In our opinion, the order impugned in these appeals is self-eloquent. On September 8, 2017, the accused allegedly murdered Pradyuman Thakur, a class two student of his school, in order to postpone a class test and a parent-teacher meeting. Pradyuman was found outside the school’s washroom with his throat slit. Gurugram Police had initially arrested a school bus conductor in connection with the murder. On November 7, 2017, CBI arrested the 16-yearold for killing his seven-year-old schoolmate. Import documents show that the Intelligence Bureau (IB), India’s domestic intelligence agency, bought hardware from the Israeli company NSO Group that matches the description of equipment used to deploy the Pegasus spyware, according to a report by the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP). Though the report – by Sharad Vyas and Jurre van Bergen of the OCCRP –says “it is not possible to say conclusively whether the imported hardware was used for Pegasus”, it follows the claim reported by the New York Times earlier this year that the Indian government purchased Pegasus spyware in 2017 as part of a major arms deal with Israel. Pegasus is military-grade spyware through which the user – who must be a government entity under Israel’s export law – gains complete access to a person’s mobile phone. Though the company claims that the spyware is used to target criminal and terror gangs, the Pegasus Project – an international consortium of media organisations – demonstrated in July 2021 that it was used to target journalists, activists and opposition politicians. According to OCCRP, import data shows that on April 18, 2017, the IB received a shipment of hardware from NSO “matching the description of equipment used elsewhere to run Pegasus software”. The shipment came by air and was unloaded in Delhi. OCCRP says it accessed the data through a subscription-based trade website that has import and export details on commercial shipments worldwide. “The consignment included Dell computer servers, Cisco network equipment, and ‘uninterruptible power supply’ batteries, which provide power in case of outages, according to a bill of lading obtained through a global trade data platform that draws on national customs documents,” the report says. The shipment equipment cost $315,000 (or just over Rs 2 crore at that time), was delivered by air and was marked “for Defence and Military Use”, OCCRP says. “That description — and the timing of the shipment — appeared to match the account given in January by the New York Times, which reported that Pegasus and a missile system had been ‘centerpieces’ of a major 2017 arms - Kapilkumar M. Thackeray was addressing a function at the Shiv Sena Bhavan in Dadar area of Mumbai where he inducted former minister Sanjay Deshmukh from Yavatmal into his faction. Addressing a gathering after the induction, Thackeray said despite claims that the Shiv Sena had split and was finished, people were still coming to him. The Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government collapsed in June this year after a rebellion led by MLA Eknath Shinde. Shinde was later sworn in as the chief
minister with the BJP’s support. The Election Commission earlier this month barred the Shiv Sena factions led by Thackeray and Shinde from using the party name and its election symbol ‘bow and arrow’ in the November 3 Andheri East Assembly bypoll. It allotted ‘ShivSena – Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray’ as the party name for the Thackeray faction, and ‘Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena’ (Balasaheb’s Shiv Sena) as the name for the Shinde group. The EC also allotted new poll symbols to the rival groups. Deshmukh, who joined the Thackeray faction on Thursday, was an MLA for two terms from Digras in Yavatmal. The girl had been missing since October 15 and her father had filed the complaint.The body was found at the Majhauli village by the villagers, who then informed the police. The

Asian Paints on Thursday reported 32.83 per cent rise in consolidated net profit at Rs 803.83 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, 2022 driven by robust sales. The company had posted a net profit of Rs 605.17 crore in the same quarter last fiscal year. Revenue from operations stood at Rs 8,457.57 crore in the quarter under review as compared to Rs 7,096.01 crore in the year-ago period. Sales in the international market increased 15.3 per cent in Q2 FY23 to Rs 805.99 crore from Rs 699.28 crore in the year-ago period. Asian Paints said its board
of directors has approved payment of an interim dividend of Rs 4.40 per equity share.“The domestic decorative business showed resilience to deliver a double-digit volume growth and healthy value growth despite subdued demand conditions, impacted by the extended monsoon,” Asian Paints Managing Director & CEO Amit Syngle said.
