World Cup 2015 : India Vs SouthAfrica Preview Both India and South Africa will be seeking a place in the quarter- finals and hence would be keen to upstage each other in the crucial clash in Melbourne. outclassed them. One hopes that INd- Sa match lives up to the expectations and the Indians are able to break the jinx of losing to the Proteas at the World Cup

Melbourne, India and South Africa are set for a an exciting clash at Melbourne. Both the teams go into the match with a win under their belt. India beat Pakistan in much hyped encounter whereas the Proteas survived a Zimbabwe scare . A win for either teams here opens up their chances of reaching the quarters of the tournament a little easier. The match in all likelihood will be between South African bowling and Indian batting. Dale Steyn , Morne Morkel, Vernon Philander,

and if picked Imran Khan Tahir will test the Indian batting for sure. Indian bowlers fared well against arch- rivals Pakistan and MSD would be hoping for an encore against the Proteas. The Skipper could mull over using three spinners in Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel. Given the Proteas vulnerability against spin. Indian batsmen rose to the occasion against Pakistan so they need to repeat this against the Proteas too. So for the India the likes of Shikhar

Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina and Mahendra Singh Dhoni , the skipper it is time to stand up and deliver. The team can least afford to rest on its laurels of beating Pakistan. The Proteas with the likes Skipper A B De Villiers, Hashim Amla, Quinton De Kock, David Miller and JP Duminy are no push overs and are a strong all – round unit. The IndoPak match was much hyped and in the end proved to be a onesided affair as India

PDP-BJP to form government in Jammu & Kashmir likely within a week NEW DELHI, Decks have been cleared for a PDP-BJP government in Jammu and Kashmir possibly within a week with both sides agreeing on a Common Minimum Programme (CMP) which is understood to have addressed controversial issues like Article 370 and AFSPA. Sources privy to the development said PDP patron Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, who is likely to be the Chief Minister for the entire six year term, will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi early next week when the announcement on government formation is expected to be made. Ahead of the Mufti-Modi meeting, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti will fly in to Delhi on Sunday and meet senior BJP leaders, the sources said. The leaders of the PDP, which has 28 MLAs and BJP with 25 MLAs in the 87member Assembly, chose to keep under wraps details of the CMP as also how the two sides thrashed out contentious issues including Article 370, the

controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and rehabilitation of nearly 25,000 West Pakistan Refugees over which they were sharply divided. The CMP needs to be read in totality and not in bits and pieces, leaders from both the political parties, who preferred anonymity, stressed. Both the parties have agreed to put the CMP in public domain ahead of the swearing-in of the new government, which will see BJP MLAs sitting on the ruling benches for the first time in the state Assembly. The sources said the state could see a new government "within a week". PDP and BJP have been in talks ever since the election results on December 23 last gave a fractured verdict. The state is under Governor's Rule for over a month. The two sides are understood to have agreed on formation of a Committee which will go into the AFSPA issue and suggest areas from where it could be revoked. On Article 370, while BJP

has given no written assurance as demanded by the PDP, the CMP is expected to say that both parties will respect the aspirations of the people of the state within the Constitution, the sources indicated. The proposed CMP may also touch upon the issue of more than 25,000 families of West Pakistan refugees by terming it as a humanitarian issue. According to the sources, the portfolios have also been finalised with the PDP likely to walk away with Home and Finance while BJP is expected to get Tourism and Water Resources, Public Health Engineering and Planning.

BJP's Nirmal Singh is likely to be nominated Deputy Chief Minister and also take charge of of Planning, the sources said. BJP general secretary Ram Madhav, who has been negotiating for government formation with state leaders, denied any compromise on the crucial issues. If "compromise" was to have been made by either side, then a solution to the differences would have been found long ago. "Both the parties are trying sincerely to arrive at an understanding on CMP of governance. There are a couple of political issues on which traditionally we have held different views.

of deaths were 743. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh today reported 25 fresh cases of swine flu, taking the number of those infected with the H1N1 influenza to 190 in the state. Health Minister J P Nadda had yesterday reviewed the swine flu situation in Uttar Pradesh and had assured Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav of all assistance. The Health Ministry had

yesterday said that it was also procuring 2000 swine flu vaccines especially for the healthcare workers who are at maximum risk of catching swine flu from patients. A team of experts from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has also been asked to study patterns in mortality such as which areas, age groups and section of people have

been most affected, in addition to deaths due to co-morbid conditions in all the states by collecting random samples. Concerned over the upsurge in cases, Cabinet Secretary Ajit Seth had chaired a high-level meeting recently during which he asked the states to ensure setting up of necessary helplines and round-theclock functioning of outbreak monitoring cells.

Dubai skyscraper catches fire, though no one killed in blaze DUBAI, One of the world's tallest residential towers caught fire early Saturday in Dubai's Marina district, sending hundreds of residents pouring into the streets as bright yellow flames raged several stories high. No one was reported killed. The fire broke out at about 2 a.m. in the 86-story Torch tower on the northeast end of the densely populated waterfront district, which is packed with multi-story skyscrapers. High winds whipped through the area, fanning the flames, and debris from the fire cluttered nearby streets. Dubai's police chief, Maj. Gen. Khamis Mattar al-Muzeina, said in a statement that firefighters put out the blaze before it caused serious damage. Several balconies were damaged, and a number of people who sustained minor injuries were treated by ambulance crews at the scene, he said.

The cause of the fire was not immediately clear. Investigators were examining the scene, but there are no indications of foul play, al-Muzeina said. The Dubai blaze happened a day after a fire gutted a building on the outskirts of the Emirati capital of Abu Dhabi, killing 10 laborers who had been illegally living in a storage area inside. Another eight people were wounded in that fire. The Torch is managed by Kingfield OwnerAssociation Management Services, which is arranging temporary

shelter and supplies for affected residents. It said in a statement that everyone inside the tower was successfully evacuated. "All fire safety systems functioned effectively during the incident thereby restricting fire damage to the exterior of the building," it said. The Marina area is home to dozens of towering apartment blocks and hotels, many of them built over the past decade. They are popular with Dubai's many expatriate professionals. Police blocked off areas around the Torch. Residents of at least one neighboring tower were told to evacuate as a precaution because of strong winds, but they were later allowed back inside. Two residents of the Torch said they were told the fire started around the 52nd floor. Flaming material falling from the initial fire then set a lower part of the building ablaze, they said.

Grief, anger at Pansare’s funeral Grief was writ large in the faces of thousands of mourners, Communist party workers and activists as they gathered to bid an emotional farewell to eminent CPI leader and stalwart activist Govind Pansare in the Western Maharashtra city of Kolhapur. However, the grief belied a steely resolve and strong undercurrents of anger that marked the occasion as mourners demanded speedy justice for Pansare’s death. Pansare, 82, who was brutally shot outside his home earlier this week, succumbed to his bullet wounds Friday night. Kolhapur was bathed in a sea of red as thousands of workers from every social stratum — women domestic cleaners, beedi workers, rickshaw drivers — congregated at the city’s Dasara Chowk to pay their last respects to their beloved Anna, waving red flags and giving the clenched-fist red salute. Defiant cries of “We are all Dr. Dabholkar! We are all Comrade Pansare” rent the air as those gathered demand an end to murderous attacks on prominent liberal intellectuals in Maharashtra. Workers and activists, who said they felt orphaned at Pansare’s demise, proclaimed their determination to take his ideals forward. While leaders from both sides of the spectrum were present, politicians, including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, were conspicuously absent on the occasion. Amid red flags, students and workers poignantly reminisced about Pansare’s wisdom and humanity and the courage to abide by his ideals without resorting to intellectual browbeating of an opponent. Joining the CPI in 1952, Pansare transcended Communist politics by embracing a wide array of issues, fighting for the eradication of superstition to taking on the toll mafia. “It is painful to think that the spot where Mr. Pansare was to address the annual State CPI convention would tragically transform into the place where people would pay their final respects to him,” said noted Marathi writer Vidya Bal. Bemoaning the slow death of the liberal tradition in the State, Ms. Bal sadly reflected while Pansare tirelessly fought for issues affecting the poor, it was Shiv Sena scion Aditya Thackeray’s proposal of extending Mumbai’s nightlife that was being enthusiastically taken by the State government. Swabhimani Paksha president Raju Shetti said that while Pansare had passed away, his killers will never be able to efface his ideas. Implying the hand of rightist forces behind Pansare’s death, Mr. Shetti, whose party is an ally of the BJP in the State, warned that the Swabhimani Paksha would never support a government that subscribed to the views of Nathuram Godse. Ordinary workers stressed on Pansare’s tireless efforts to educate them, recalling how his most famous pamphlet, Shivaji kon hota (Who was Shivaji)? did much to recast King Shivaji as a social reformer as opposed to an exalted, feudalistic image paraded by chauvinistic, right-wing regionalist parties. “His equanimity was remarkable. When his son, Avinash, passed away, Comrade Pansare rhetorically asked, standing beside his son’s body: ‘Who will complete his unfinished task?’…‘We will,’ he answered,” recalled a CPI activist. In the evening, a funeral cortege bearing Pansare’s body advanced to the banks of the Panchganga River, where he was austerely cremated without the pomp of ritual. While shops and establishments in Kolhapur downed shutters as a mark of respect, the CPI has called for a State-wide bandh on Sunday.

New Delhi Somdev Devvarman and Yuki Bhambri remained on course for a title showdown by reaching the men’s singles semifinals of the Delhi Open even as it was curtains for Saketh Myneni, today. Somdev, country’s top singles player, blunted a spirited challenge from Sanam Singh as he eked out a 4-6 6-1 6-3 win in his quarterfinal while Yuki was far from convincing in his 7-6 (3) 6-3 win over seventh seed Radu Albot from Moldova. Myneni could not play to his potential in today’s contest against Belgium’s Kimmer Coppejans, losing his lasteight clash 4-6 3-6.

Somdev will take on 21year-old Coppejans while Yuki is now up against Belgium’s left-hander Ruben Bemelmans, who overcame sixth seed Australian Luke Saville 6-4 6-4 in the USD 100,000 ATP Challenger. Sanam, who had knocked out the top seed, came out firing on all cylinders against his compatriot as he stunned Somdev with some breathtaking backhand winners in the opening set. As Somdev prefers to remain on the baseline, Sanam tried to take advantage of that by using the drop shots more often but also lost points when he erred in execution.

Microsoft updates Windows Defender to remove Superfish adware

New Delhi Microsoft has updated its Windows Defender to remove the Superfish adware which reportedly made Lenovo users susceptible to attacks. According to the Verge, researchers are reporting that Windows Defender, Microsoft's onboard antivirus software, is now actively removing the Superfish software that came pre-installed on many Lenovo computers. Windows Defender will also carry the task of resetting any SSL certificates that were bypassed by Superfish, and restore the system to proper working order. Researchers recently discovered that Lenovo's

Superfish bug could easily give way to attackers looking to breach the systems using the security flaws opened up by the software. Superfish is present on Lenovo laptops sold between September 2014 and January 2015, although Lenovo says no Thinkpads were shipped with the software, the report said. Researchers have reportedly found and published a password that can turn a security flaw into an active carrier of attack. Errata Security's Robert David Graham said in a post that the password was stored in the Superfish software's active memory and was trivial to extract, the report added.

The company claims Apple was poaching its staff and "is currently developing a large scale battery division to compete in the very same field as A123".

MELBOURNE West Indies stole the show on Day 8 of the Cricket World Cup with a 150-run mauling of Pakistan. That was before Australia’s clash with Bangladesh was called without a ball being bowled due to persitant heavy rain in Brisbane. And the Caribbean islanders turned in a multifaceted display, as a combination of exemplary batting and fierce bowling proved to be too much for a hapless Pakistan outfit. Lendl Simmons shone with the bat for the Windies, while Jerome Taylor dazzled with the new ball. But the

Here’s a look at how the Windies’win effects some of the overall individual standings and a detailed examination of some of the finest performances as we move into the second week of what’s been an enthralling tournament to date.

Indian women hockey team lose 2-10 vs Dutch men's club side New Dehli Indian women's hockey team went down 2-10 against the men's side of Dutch club HDM JA 1 in a tour match. The Indian team were here in preparation for the FIH World League Round 2 to be held in New Delhi from March 7-15. While the Indian women's team looked determined to display their best throughout the entire game, the Dutch men's club side, comprising mostly Under-19 national players, were in no mood to give away an inch to the visitors last night. The Indian eves could not match the speed of their men opponents. However, it did not deter the Indian eves to

It is not easy to clear boundaries at a big ground like the MCG, so trying to step it up towards the end won't be easy. "We need a calculated approach to batting." The 26-year-old has prospered at the MCG,

making 169 and 54 during the drawn Test against Australia in December. He followed that with a matchwinning 107 in the World Cup opener against Pakistan in Adelaide. Kohli and the other Indian batsmen now face the prospect of facing a formidable attack that includes Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel and Vernon Philander, backed by Kyle Abbott and Wayne Parnell.

Ahmed Shehzad apologizes after venting anger on wrong journalist post Pakistan's WC loss to India Dubai Pakistan cricket team opener Ahmed Shehzad apologised after he vent his anger on the wrong journalist following the team's World Cup opening loss to arch-rivals India. Many blog sites had reportedly been writing negatively about Pakistani players and while some coped up with the criticism they received following the defeat to India, others reacted strongly including opener Shehzad. Shehzad fumed at Rashid Shakoor, the BBC Urdu journalist, in Christchurch, accusing him of regularly tweeting against him, Gulf News reported. Recalling the incident, Shakoor claimed that he was shocked at the way Shehzad behaved with him, adding that the opener accused him of bias when he had done nothing, insisting that the cricketer went on arguing with him. MELBOURNE Indian vice-captain Virat Kohli predicts an "exciting" tussle between his team's batsmen and South Africa's bowlers during Sunday's World Cup blockbuster at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. "Both sides are balanced, so it all depends on how you play on the day," the leading Indian batsman said ahead of the key Pool B match that will almost certainly assure the winner a place in the quarter-finals. Both teams won their opening games, defending champions India thrashing Pakistan by 76 runs in Adelaide last Sunday and South Africa beating Zimbabwe by 62 runs in Hamilton earlier the same day. Kohli, deputising for skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni at Saturday's prematch media conference, said the hard pitch with extra bounce at the MCG will be a challenge for the two teams. Karachi Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has raised questions over the fitness of the tall left arm paceman Muhammad Irfan, who is part of the national team in the ongoing World Cup. "I have doubts over the fitness of Irfan, I don't think he is fit to play a match," Akhtar said on Geo

news channel. The 7'1 Irfan has been tipped to be Pakistan's best bowler in the World Cup by former greats like Imran Khan and Wasim Akram but against India he struggled and was also warned for running onto the pitch.Akhtar said that the team management needed to handle Irfan carefully as they were still lot of matches

remaining in the mega event. He also said that he had a feeling Pakistan would persist with Umar Akmal as the wicketkeeper for the match against West Indies on Wednesday. "To be honest I don't see any change in the side apart from Younis Khan," he added. The Pakistan think-tank tried out Younis Khan as a makeshift opener against India an experiment that failed badly and has led to criticism by former players, critics and fans. Akhtar also made it clear that if Pakistan didn't win the toss and bowl first in Christchurch on Wednesday it could face problems against the West Indies. "We have seen on a few occasions how the first use of the pitches in New Zealand in day matches has assisted the seam bowlers in particular that is why the toss is so vital," he added.

World Cup 2015: I see a lot of myself in Ashwin, says Anil Kumble

claimed that after accusing and shouting at him, Shehzad went off, so then he tried to find out the cause of his anger and frustration and realised that it was aimed at Sajid Sadiq of Pakpassion.net. Following the incident, some journalists decided to complain about Shehzad's behaviour to the team management and reports quickly circulated in Pakistan suggesting that the batsman

would be sent home for his behaviour. It was also reported that Shehzad had argued with the team's fielding coach, Grant Luden. Shakoor said that soon Shehzad realised that he had shouted at the wrong journalist and came back to apologise, but added that the reports claiming that the opener is being asked to leave the World Cup is all wrong.

MELBOURNE Former India captain Anil Kumble on Saturday said Ravichandran Ashwin reminds him of himself as the Tamil Nadu off-spinner's approach and work ethics are

quite similar to what he had during his playing days.Asked whether he could relate to any of the current generation cricketers, with whom, Kumble instantly took Ashwin's name. "I see a lot of myself in Ashwin. He is a fantastic cricketer with a lot of work ethic. Obviously, he is a far better batsman than me. Like me,Ashwin has also been criticised for not getting wickets overseas. But again, he has a lot of chance of improving," Kumble said during an interaction ahead of his induction into the 'ICC's

Hall of Fame'. For Kumble, more Ashwin plays in overseas conditions, the better he will get. "The only way to get better is to play more in overseas conditions. If he gets more chances and gets the confidence, he will certainly improve. I often hear an argument that in overseas conditions, we should play one spinner in Test matches. On a different note, Kumble showed a lot of confidence in the current Indian side and predicted that it would reach the last four stage.

Jodhpur, Rajasthan Non-availability of land to the Indian Air Force and delay in the process of handing over of the identified land have emerged as major slowdowns in the expansion projects, a senior official said. Be it expansion of the existing Air Force stations or setting up intermediary training field, both have been hit on account of the lack of adequate land. In the South West Air Command (SWAC), the matter of land for the expansion of the Air Force stations of Jodhpur and Pune is yet to be resolved. Similarly, the process of land identification for setting of the Intermediary Training Field at Deesa air base is dragging its feet, the official said. “We are in need of additional land for the expansion of Jodhpur and Pune air stations. The matter in both the cases is between respective state governments and the Ministry of Defence,” theAir Officer Commanding in

Chief (SWAC) Air Marshal B S Dhanoa told reporters here, ahead of the President’s visit for presentation of President’s Standard to 21 Squadron and 116 Helicopter Unit on March 4. He said that many of the stations had been set up long back and now they have fallen victim of the growing urbanisation and are now surrounded by civil habitation. “With the fastchanging war techniques, emergence of new challenges and the pressing need of replacement of obsolete technology to the newer one, we need more space,” Dhanoa said. Referring to the land issue of Jodhpur Air Force station, he said the station is fully equipped but

for further expansion and modernisation, there is a drastic need for more land. Like Pune, Jodhpur station also shares the operation of civil flights and after agreeing to transfer its 37 acre land to the civil airport authority, the Air Force is awaiting replacement of this land and little more for its own use. The thenAir Chief Marshal NAK Browne had said during his visit of Phalodi air base in January 2013 that this training field will enable air force to enhance the intake of youth willing to join Indian Air Force and had expected to overcome this shortage of 560 pilots in 45 years. Even this project is awaiting the identification of suitable land till date.
