SC Agrees to Hear Uddhav Thackeray Faction’s Plea Against EC Decision

Agency News: New Delhi

From then to now, the fortunes of Delhi have taken many twists and turns. Calcutta (now Kolkata) was the seat of the Governor General and the East India Company, the most important city of the British Empire from 1757 to the first half of the 20th century. The Bombay (Mumbai) and Madras (Chennai) presidencies were the leading centres of trade, commerce and education, while Delhi gradually lost its ‘salience’. In 1858, it was detached from the erstwhile United Provinces of Agra and Oudh and made part of Punjab. However, the decision to shift the capital in 1911 from Calcutta to Delhi changed the fortunes of this city. By 2030, it is expected to cross Tokyo and emerge as the largest global metropolis. At the time of India’s Independence, the laurel of being the most populous, as well as the most advanced city in commerce, industry, education and learning, was held by Calcutta. However, in the aftermath of the Partition, and the growing hegemony of Communist parties of all shades, coupled with the freight equalisation policy of the Union government, the ‘city of joy’ lost this status to Bombay, which became the commercial, financial and entertainment capital of India.Delhi, however, is now challenging this position. At the turn of this century, as per the 2011 Census, Mumbai’s population was the highest in the country. But given Delhi’s higher economic growth rate by 2028, or perhaps even earlier, it can take Mumbai’s place as India’s ‘primus urb’. Thanks to Information Technology and connected services, Bengaluru and Hyderabad compete with Chennai as the top metro destinations of the south, even though the latter still retains its status as India’s ‘health city’. Despite not being a capital city, Ahmedabad.

Awar of words between key leaders of the ruling BJP and opposition Congress in Madhya Pradesh is gradually escalating.

After Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and state Congress chief Kamal Nath entered into a question war, two other leaders, Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh and Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, have followed suit. Digvijaya and Scindia, who used to be under the Congress umbrella till March 2020, are now leaving no stone unturned to attack each other. While talking to the media a couple of day ago, Digvijaya Singh, without taking Scindia’s

name, said that the Congress will from the government in Madhya Pradesh for full five year tenure because, “only trustfull people are in the Congress and those who believe in sale and purchase have gone now.” Singh made these remarks replying on whether the Congress will remain united on the party’s Chief Ministerial face? Digvijaya also made it clear that the Congress will contest Madhya Pradesh’s Assembly elections under the leadership of Kamal Nath. He made this statement after a section of senior Congress leaders raised questions on the posters projecting Kamal Nath as the Chief Ministerial candidate for the 2023 Assembly elections.

The Budget 2023-24, which is the first in Amrit Kaal, has been accepted well by industries across the country. The Budget document clearly rests on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of India@100 with pillars of inclusivity and prosperity. Though the core intent of the Budget 2023 was to strengthen the government’s resolve to focus on two major pillars — ‘Make in India’ and ‘Ease of Doing Business’, healthcare was among the focal sectors with an emphasis on digital innovation. To focus on enhancing medical and nursing education to meet the demand of the healthcare workforce of our country, the finance minister has proposed for establishment of 157 new nursing colleges. Such a step by the government would drive

the nation towards a common goal of ‘Viksit Bharat’ with no shortage of healthcare workforce, not only in terms of numbers but also in terms of quality. Also, the initiative is a key step in the direction of universal health coverage. It is a well-known fact that the quality of medical care which we enjoy today is only built upon years of research done by various medical professionals.

To unleash the true potential and to encourage collaborative research and innovation for the sector.
