Centre rolls out measures to stem inflation, cuts excise duty on petrol, diesel Excise duty cut by ₹ 8 per litre on petrol, by ₹ 6 per litre on diesel. This will reduce the price of petrol by ₹ 9.5 per litre and of Diesel by ₹ 7 per litre. Agency News:New Delhi In a step to bring down the fuel prices, the Centre on Saturday reduced the Central excise duty on petrol by Rs 8 per litre and that on diesel by Rs 6 per litre. “We are reducing the Central excise duty on petrol by Rs 8 per litre and on diesel by Rs 6 per litre. This will reduce the price of petrol by Rs 9.5 per litre and of diesel by Rs 7 per litre,” Union Minister of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced, pointing out that it will have revenue implication of around Rs 1 lakh crore
per year for the government. She also encouraged the state governments to implement a similar cut. “I wish to exhort all state governments, especially the states where reduction wasn’t done during the last round (November 2021), to also implement a similar cut and give relief to the common man,” she said. Rolling out a slew of measures to stem inflation, Sitharaman said, “Keeping in line with @PMOIndia @ narendramodi’s commitment to help the poor & common man, TODAY, we are announcing more steps to help our people,” she said. Sunvilla News: Ahmedabad In a major disaster, a triple accident involving three trucks on the ModasaDhansura highway on Saturday left at least six persons dead and several injured.Initial reports had claimed that the third vehicle was a car. According to reports, one of the trucks was laden with chemical, the second had cloth and the third had paper rolls. The head-on collision took place near Amlapur village, at around 10 am on Saturday. The chemical-laden truck caught fire which spread
to other vehicles. More than 35,000 government schools in Jharkhand are set for a fresh coat of paint in greenand-white shades, colours associated with the ruling JMM’s party flag.While the ruling dispensation claimed the colours were selected based on experts’ recommendations as green is soothing for eyes and white symbolises cleanliness, the opposition BJP cried foul alleging the shades were chosen to send out a political message. At present, school buildings are painted pink and toilets blue. As per an order issued by the Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC) to all District Education Officers (DEOs), the walls of the school buildings will be painted
in swan, angora or coconut white, while frosted green or mehndi green will be used for borders and projections of the walls. The doors and windows, and also the toilets will be painted in deep green. “The schools will get a new look. The buildings will be painted in shades of green and white. We chose the colours based on experts’ recommendations. It is medically proven that green is soothing for eyes, while white symbolises cleanliness and freshness,” Education Minister Jagarnath Mahto, on whose instruction the order was issued, told PTI.However, the BJP alleged that the move was politically motivated as the colour combination is associated with Jharkhand Mukti Morcha’s party flag — white coloured bow and arrow.

Agency News: New Delhi Ten days after the government held a meeting with cab aggregators - Ola and Uber - among others, notices were issued by consumer protection regulator CCPA on Friday to the ridesharing giants. The ridehailing platforms - Ola and Uber- have been accused of unfair practices and violation of consumer rights.1.
“Deficiency in services” has been one of the top reasons behind the notices. “We have issued notices to both Ola and Uber. Most of the consumer complaints received in the last one year are related to the deficiency in services and other unfair trade practices,” Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) Chief Commissioner Nidhi Khare told news agency PTI.2. Between April 1, 2021, and May 1, 2022, 2,482 grievances have been registered against Ola - and 54 per cent of these were linked to deficiency in services, while 770 grievances have been registered against Uber. Of these 64 per cent were deficiency in services.

Indian Coast Guard Ship C 419, rescued one unconscious fisherman from fishing boat ‘Dhan Prasad’ despite rough seas and challenging weather. The evacuation was coordinated by Indian Coast Guard Station Pipavav which received information from Fisheries Association, Jafrabad regarding head injury to the crew. On receipt of information, ICG in a coordinated operation launched helicopter from Porbandar and also sailed Ship capable of high speed, from Pipavav. In a swift sea air coordinated operations
thereafter, the ICG helicopter located the boat and assisted ICG ship towards reaching the boat quickly. The ICG ship immediately launched medical team onboard fishing boat and after initial first aid stabilized and evacuated the patient. Thereafter, ICG ship entered Pipavav harbour and handed over the patient to the Fisheries Association for onward transfer to hospital for further medical care. The fisherman is reportedly stable. This is second such evacuation from sea by ICG in last 48 hrs wherein an injured fisherman has been evacuated from sea.
