The government spent ₹ 295.05 crore on advertisements in 5,326 newspapers in 201920, ₹ 197.49 crore in 5,210 newspapers in 2020-21, ₹ 179.04 crore in 6,224 newspapers in 2021-22 and ₹ 19.25 crore in 1,529 newspapers in 2022-23 (till June), Thakur said. During the same period, the government spent ₹ 98.69 crore on advertisements.

Customs officials at West Bengal’s Kolkata airport on Tuesday arrested three people and recovered $42,000 from them. One of the accused was carrying $13,000 by hiding currency notes in the folds of his turban. In a video from the spot, a man can be seen unravelling a black-coloured turban and taking out crisp dollar notes and handing it over to customs officials. The customs department at the Kolkata airport stopped three travellers -- Kishan Nigam, Krishna, and Jatinder Singh -- after receiving information about suspicious activity. The three men were travelling to Bangkok on flight SG742 and were stopped after the immigration check. Govt slashes windfall tax MCX Gold gets cheaper as on petrol, ATF after fall in prices at COMEX hit 1-year low ahead of ECB decision global prices Agency News:New Delhi The government on Wednesday slashed windfall tax on domestically produced crude, diesel and aviation turbine fuel, withdrew the levy on petrol, and exempted exports of fuels from special economic zone (SEZ) from it.The development comes in the wake of softening of international oil prices and which are expected to benefit energy firms. There has been no change in the duty on fuel sold in the retail market. The decision, announced in a notification issued by the Union finance ministry on Tuesday

The notification said that the ministry was amending its June 30 decision on levying the taxes after “being satisfied” that it was “necessary in the public interest to do so”. According to the notification, windfall tax on crude has been reduced from ₹23,250 per tonne to ₹17,000 per tonne, on diesel from ₹13 per litre to ₹11, and ATF from ₹6 per litre to ₹4, effective Wednesday. The ₹6 a litre levy on petrol is completely withdrawn and fuel products of SEZ refineries are completely exempt from such levies.
