62 Killed In Indonesia Earthquake, Landslides Triggered, Buildings Damaged Agency News : Cianjur, Indonesia A shallow 5.6-magnitude earthquake killed at least 62 people, with hundreds injured and others missing, when it toppled buildings and triggered landslides on Indonesia’s main island of Java on Monday, officials said. Doctors treated patients outdoors after the quake, which was felt as far away as the capital Jakarta, left hospitals in the West Java town of Cianjur without power for several hours. Indonesia’s disaster mitigation agency said 25 people remained trapped under the rubble as the rescue mission stretched into the night. The agency increased the death toll from 56 and said more than 2,000 houses were damaged and more than 5,000 people were taken to evacuation centres. “You can see it yourself, some got their heads, feet sewn outdoors. Some got stressed and started crying,” West Java governor Ridwan Kamil told. Kamil said power had been partially restored by the evening, without specifying if that meant by generators or connection to a power grid. The afternoon quake

was centred in the Cianjur region and local authorities said as many as 700 had been wounded, warning the death toll could rise further. “Because there are still a lot of people trapped on the scene, we assume injuries and fatalities will increase over time,” Kamil said as ambulance sirens blared in the background. Agus Azhari, 19, was with his elderly mother in the family home when the living room was destroyed within seconds, parts

of the walls and roof collapsing around them. “I pulled my mother’s hand, and we ran outside,” he said. “I heard people screaming for help from all around me,” Azhari told AFP. The majority of deaths were counted in one hospital, the head of Cianjur’s local administration Herman Suherman said earlier, with most of the victims killed in the ruins of collapsed buildings. He told the town’s Sayang hospital had no power after the quake.

Congress oblivious to existence Allahabad HC Denies Bail to Man of tribals in India, mocked me Accused of Killing Live-In Partner, for wearing tribal attire: Modi Disposing of Her Body in Pieces Agency News : Jambusar(Gujarat) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday took a swipe at Congress saying its leaders remained oblivious to tribals for a very long time even though tribals have been living in the country since the days of Lord Ram and Lord Krishna. Canvassing for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Jambusar town in tribal-dominated Bharuch district in poll-bound Gujarat, the prime minister also said leaders of Congress mocked him for wearing traditional tribal attire at public functions.“For a very long time, Congress leaders remained unaware of the existence of tribals in India. did so many things for this country. But, Congress leaders never knew that Adivasis exist.” “Otherwise, why was there no separate ministry for tribals until Atal Bihari Vajpayee became prime minister? It was Ataljee’s government at the Centre which carved out a separate ministry and allocated a budget for their welfare. Even today, Congress leaders make fun of me for wearing tribal attire,” Modi said while addressing a poll rally. The prime minister, who is campaigning in his home state since November 19.

The Allahabad High Court recently denied bail to a man accused of killing his live-in partner whose body was found in chopped pieces stuffed in two bags thrown at a secluded place in 2020. Considering the allegations against the accused, the heinousness of the offence and the evidence available on record, the bench of Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh held that there was no ground to enlarge the accused on bail. The accused, Sameer Khan, used to work in Mumbai where he met the deceased, Ayesha. The court observed that from the records it appeared that the accused and the deceased started living as husband and wife in Mumbai. Later on, during the Covid-19 lockdown period, the accused brought the deceased to Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, where again they portrayed themselves

to be husband-wife. Ayesha was murdered on July 5, 2020, and Khan was arrested in August 2020. The court highlighted that based on the confessional statement of the accused, the car which was used for throwing the body of the deceased was recovered. The chopper using which the body was cut into pieces was also recovered based on the statement of the accused, the court further noted. Moreover, the court also took note of the fact that there were statements of witnesses on record, which would suggest that the accused and the deceased were living together before the incident. Therefore, the court denied bail to the accused. However, considering the fact that the accused had been in jail since August 16, 2020, it directed the trial court to expedite the trial proceedings and conclude the same, preferably, within one year.

The bill for the 300-litre fridge, accessed by shows that Aaftab used Shraddha’s number at the electronics shop near the couple’s apartment in Delhi’s Chhattarpur. Rajiv Gandhi Assassination Case: Team Shinde Break Silence, BJP Has No Right to Take Congress to File Review Petition MLA Demands Maha Guv Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s SUNVILLA SAMACHAR Against Release Of Convicts Be Shifted Out of State Name, Says NCP’s Supriya Sule Disney’s former chairman & CEO returns! Agency News : Mumbai Rajiv Gandhi Editorial

What does it mean for Disney+ Hotstar?

Disney+ Hostar’s parent Disney has brought back former Chairman & CEO Robert Iger to replace Bob Chapek as its top executive amid mounting losses on its streaming business, which includes the largest OTT player in India by user base which has been struck by slowing subscriber addition because of void created by the loss of the Indian Premier League (IPL). “The Board has concluded that as Disney embarks on an increasingly complex period of industry transformation, Bob Iger is uniquely situated to lead the Company through this pivotal period,” Susan Arnold, Chairman of the Board, said in a press release early on Monday IST. The American entertainment giant has lost $1.5 billion on its streaming business, which includes Disney+ (as Disney+ Hotstar in Asia), Hulu, ESPN+ and the Star service in Europe, just this quarter and around $8 billion over the past three years, according to Q4 results declared 10 days ago. The company follows the OctoberSeptember calendar. Recent results showed that Disney+ Hotstar has a whopping 60.3 million subscribers in Asia. A large majority of it comes from India, making it the largest streamer by user base in the country, way ahead of rivals Amazon Prime Video and Netflix. Disney+ Hotstar is also a crucial piece in the global scheme of things as it contributes around 37% to Disney+ ’s 164.2 million-strong global subscriber base. The platform managed to attract a large part of that subscriber base because of the cricket IPL tournament, the digital streaming rights of which it has lost to Reliance-backed Viacom18 for the 2023-27 cycle. It added fewer than 3 million subscribers in July-September compared to the 8 million in April-June. Besides, the firm expects its user base to decline in the October-December quarter because of the IPL void and stabilise during January-March, Disney’s chief financial officer Christine McCarthy warned in the recent earnings call. Further, the firm in August cut Disney+ Hotstar’s user base growth projection to 80 million by fiscal 2024 compared to its earlier projection of 70-100 million. “The loss of digital IPL rights will be a short-term problem for Disney+ Hotstar. Sony had also lost the IPL rights five years ago and they also came out stronger after that by focusing on good content,” says former Sony LIV head and Kurate Digital Consulting’s Founding Partner Uday Sodhi. He says they have a great product - Kapilkumar M. Hirpara and one of the best app distributions in the digital space.

was assassinated on the night of May 21, 1991 at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu by a woman suicide bomber, identified as Dhanu, at an election rally

Agency News : New Delhi The Congress party on Monday decided to file a fresh review plea in Supreme Court, challenging the release of convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case. The party had earlier termed the release as “unfortunate”. On November 11, the top court ordered the premature release of six convicts, including Nalini Sriharan, who had hosted the assassin, noting the Tamil Nadu government had recommended remission of their sentence. Facing criticism from Congress, the Centre, too, moved to the apex court, seeking a review of its order for the premature release of six convicts. The Centre said the order granting remission to the convicts was passed without affording it an adequate opportunity for hearing

despite it being a necessary party to the case. The government highlighted the alleged procedural lapse, saying the convicts seeking remission did not formally implead the Centre as a party which resulted in its non-participation in the case. “Thus absence of any assistance by the Union of India, due to procedural lapse of convicts/petitioners, while the present matter was being finally heard and decided has prevented this court from appreciating the crucial and important evidence in the matter, which if presented, would have assisted this court to arrive at a just and correct judgment in the matter,” it had said. Besides Nalini, RP Ravichandran, Santhan, Murugan, Robert Payas and Jayakumar walked out of the jail following the Supreme Court order. In its review plea, the central government had said certain facts were in its possession but could not be placed before the court to enable it to arrive at a correct judgment and to do complete justice in the “peculiar and shocking” facts and circumstances.

Pinarayi Vijayan Govt Works Only for Its Cadre: Kerala Guv Kharge Meets Party Work- Arif Mohammed Khan Editor

Shashi Tharoor in a direct contest. Back in the state after an eight-day gap, Governor Arif Mohammed Khan on Monday yet again slammed the Pinarayi Vijayan government over its functioning. “This government works only for its cadre. If someone sitting in the Chief Minister’s office directs vice-chancellors, and the Chief Minister doesn’t know, then it’s his incapability and if he knows of it, then he is also a party to what’s happening,” said Khan. Khan was reacting on the recent High Court verdict ruling Priya Varghese, wife of Vijayan’s private secretary K.K. Ragesh, that she does not have the necessary qualifications to be appointed as Associate Professor at the Malayalam department of Kannur University. “I have nothing personal against anyone as my job is only to see the law of the land

is upheld. Universities have to be free of executive interferences, and under qualified and unqualified will not be appointed. I am doing this because the common man should get a feeling that there is equality in law,” said Khan and added that appointments will be based only on qualifications. Reacting on the special assembly session called from December 5 to pass a Bill removing the office of Governor from the chancellors post, he said that Kerala was formed in 1956. “But, even before that, the Governor was the chancellor. So they just can’t break the national conventions and rules as this is beyond their power. If they wish, let them try. Now they are upset because of the judicial verdict and now they are trying to cover up that embarrassment as this government works only for their cadre,” added Khan.

The ruling BJP in Gujarat has fielded newly-inducted young Patidar leader Hardik Patel to snatch from the Congress the Viramgam Assembly seat that had thrown up a surprise in the last election and is considered immune to caste politics as leaders from different castes and religions, including a minority community, have represented it so far. He will lock horns with sitting Congress MLA Lakhabhai Bharwad, who had defeated Bharatiya Janata Party’s Tejashree

This and 92 other seats will go to polls in the second phase on December 5. During her tenure as the Congress MLA.

Jailed AAP minister Satyendar Jain’s plea seeking contempt action against the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for allegedly leaking CCTV footage to media will be heard by a Delhi court on Monday. Jain’s plea accused the central agency of leaking CCTV footage purportedly showing him receive a massage in Tihar Jail to the media “despite an undertaking given in the court”. The ED on Saturday was asked to file a response to the plea by Special Judge Vikas Dhull. The videos showing Jain receiving massages, reading files and meeting visitors in prison once again on Saturday

stirred a controversy over the minister’s ‘special treatment’ in jail, as accused by the ED. The AAP drew flak over the video, with the opposition BJP and Congress demanding his sacking and questioning the “silence” of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Delhi’s Deputy CM Manish Sisodia meanwhile claimed that Jain had had two spine operations and was prescribed physiotherapy by the doctor.

Five doctors of a private hospital in Noida have been booked for negligence in treatment of a Covid-19 patient which allegedly led to his death during the second wave of the pandemic in 2021, officials said on Monday. The family of the patient, who was in his early 20s, claimed that he was not administered remdesivir injection in time at the hospital despite them purchasing it on the basis of doctor’s prescription, according to the FIR. Dr Singh also headed an official probe committee which had investigated the complaint of the Ghaziabad-based family and the allegations to be true. However, Yatharth Hospital’s managing director Kapil Tyagi claimed that the allegations were misplaced.

Day after Congress demanded that Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari be recalled over his “Shivaji an idol of olden days” remark, Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s faction on Monday demanded that Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari be shifted out of the state. Gaikwad, who represents the Buldhana Assembly constituency, claimed that Koshyari had made statements about the founder of the Maratha Empire and stoked controversy in the past as well. ”The governor should understand that the ideals of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj never age and he cannot be compared to any other great person in the world. My request to BJP leaders at the Centre is that a person who does not know the history of the state and how it functions, be

sent somewhere else,” the MLA said. Shinde is an MLA of the Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena faction of the party led by Shinde who helms the government in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Koshyari had, on Saturday, said Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was an icon of ”olden days” and referred to Babasaheb Ambedkar and Union minister Nitin Gadkari while talking about ”icons” in the state, drawing criticism from the NCP and Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena faction. The governor made the remarks after conferring D.Litt degrees on senior BJP leader Gadkari and NCP president Sharad Pawar at an event held in Aurangabad.

Ten Held for Assaulting BJP MLA in Karnataka Village Agency News : Chikmagalur Ten villagers were arrested on Monday on charges of assaulting BJP MLA from Mudigere Assembly constituency M.P. Kumaraswamy after a woman died in elephant attack in the district. The arrests were made from Hullemane Kunduru village in Mudugere taluk, where the incident had taken place on Sunday. According to sources, the villagers were protesting with the body of a woman who died in elephant attack. BJP MLA Kumaraswamy had visited the spot late in the evening. The villagers vented out their ire on BJP MLA, for not doing anything regarding elephant menace and arriving late, though they were protesting since morning. They started questioning

him in singulars, then hurled abuses, tore his clothes and started beating him up. Later, they chased him. Amid stone pelting, the MLA was rescued and escorted to his vehicle by police. The villagers had also damaged vehicles. In order to quell the mob surrounding MLA Kumaraswamy, the police had to resort to lathi charge. Rahul Dials Sanjay Raut Amid Savarkar Row; Sena MP Calls Gestures ‘Rare in Times of Political Bitterness’ Agency News : New Delhi Days after Uddhav Thackeray voiced his disapproval over the remarks made by Rahul Gandhi on Hindutva Ideologue Veer Savarkar, Sanjay Raut, who is a key figure of Uddhav’s Sena faction, seemed to be extending an olive branch to the Congress leader who is currently on a pan-India unity march. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Monday said he received a call from Congress MP Rahul Gandhi who enquired about his health, adding that such gestures were becoming rare in times of “political bitterness”. “Rahul Gandhi called and checked on me yesterday despite his busy schedule amid Bharat Jodo Yatra. He said we were concerned about your well-being and said take care, we will work together again,” Sanjay Raut said. Raut also added that Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, a mass contact initiative underway from September 7, is getting a massive response because he is “focussing on love

and compassion”. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi last week stood firm on his remarks on VD Savarkar that the Hindutva ideologue “wrote mercy petitions to the British and accepted pension’ and that he did so because of fear”. Rahul Gandhi said on Thursday, “I am very clear he helped the British”. “See this. This is the most important document for me. This is the document that comprises Savarkar’s letter to [the] British in which he has stated ‘I beg to remain, sir, your most obedient servant, VD Savarkar,” Gandhi said on Thursday. Gandhi went ahead and translated the English lines to Hindi and said, “Sir, main aapka naukar rehna chaahta hoon“. “This is not written by me… but Savarkarji. Let everyone read this document,” Rahul Gandhi added.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MP Supriya Sule on Monday said it was unfortunate that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was defending Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari’s remark about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and going forward the party has no right to take the Maratha king’s name. The NCP’s Pune city unit staged a protest against the governor over his remark that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was an icon of “olden days”. During the protest, a party worker was dressed up like Koshyari and slogans were shouted against the governor. Sule said that it was unfortunate the way the governor has been constantly talking about the great icons of India. “A video of the BJP’s spokesperson is in circulation and it seems like these people are committing the sin of insulting Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj constantly. It is unfortunate and it should stop,” the NCP leader said. The NCP has accused BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi of claiming that the founder of the Maratha empire apologised to Mughal king Aurangzeb five times. In order to put a stop to this, the NCP, Shiv Sena, and Congress have hit the road and are

protesting, she said. When asked about Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis defending the governor’s statement, Sule said, “If the Opposition does something it becomes a mistake, and if they (BJP) do something, it is not so. This is their double standard.” “I was expecting more from Fadnavisji. He was the chief minister for five years. You may have a different ideology, but if Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is being insulted and if you are defending it, then it is unfortunate. Going forward, BJP has no right to take the name of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj,” the NCP leader said. “I can understand that a mistake can happen once, but he (Koshyari) has been speaking again and again. He is a frequent offender. When a mistake is committed again and again, it does not remain a mistake, it becomes a choice,” Sule said.

MCD Polls: Sisodia Launches AAP’s ‘Kejriwal Ki Sarkar, Kejriwal Ka Parshad’ Campaign Agency News : New Delhi Sharpening its attack on the BJP, senior AAP leader Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Monday said the saffron party has ”no vision” for the civic body as he announced a new campaign for his party to ”alert voters” to choose the Aam Aadmi Party in the MCD polls. The BJP has done nothing in the past 15 years in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and has no vision for the next five years as well, ”But, we gave a vision to fix civic problems. The AAP is going to win this polls. So, if you want work to be done in your ward, pick an AAP councillor as if a BJP councillor will be there in your ward that person will try to

obstruct work since the AAP will be in power in MCD,” Sisodia claimed. ”So, a new campaign ’Kejriwal ki Sarkar, Kejriwal ka Parshad’ (Kejriwal’s governent, Kejriwal’s councillor) campaign has been launched to alert people to pick AAP over BJP in civic polls due on December 4,” he said. BJP leaders have no agenda in this polls, but to only ”abuse Arvind Kejriwal day and night”, he alleged.

Farmer Leader Dallewal to Continue Fast Unto Death Gujarat: ‘Son’ Shine in 20 Seats Till Demands Met as BJP & Congress Field Dynast Candidates In Assembly Polls Sunvilla News: Ahmedabad With the Assembly election in Gujarat around the corner, dynasty politics is thriving in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s native state. Both the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Congress have liberally fielded ‘friends and family’ of sitting legislators The ruling BJP and opposition Congress have together fielded immediate family members of sitting and former MLAs in at least 20 of the total 182 constituencies. While the opposition Congress has 13 such ‘nepotism’ candidates, the BJP gave tickets to seven. Though frowned upon and favoured in

equal measures by parties of different hues, dynastic politics is a traditional feature of electoral contests in the country and the next month’s Gujarat Assembly polls are no exception. political parties are at times compelled to give tickets to dynasts either due to the strong ‘winnability’ factor or in the absence of an alternative in the constituencies where these leaders wield clout. When tribal leader and ten-time Congress MLA Mohansinh Rathva severed his decades-old ties with the parent party and joined BJP last month, the ruling party rewarded him by fielding his son Rajendrasinh Rathva from Chhota Udepur seat.

The FIFA World Cup has officially begun, with the opening ceremony taking place at Qatar’s 60,000-capacity Al Bayt Stadium. In India, the live streaming of the sports carnival is provided by Reliance Jio on its free Jio Cinema app and website. However, fans seems to be displeased at the quality of streaming on the platform as it struggles to manage such huge load. Users are complaining of buffering issue even if they have sufficiently good quality of internet connectivity. Twitter is flooded with fans reacting to the poor streaming, with many complaining that their

World Cup viewing experience has been ruined. Jio too promptly acknowledged the issue faced by users. It stated that their team is working hard to solve the buffering issues. Later, the platform came with the solution. It tweeted, “Dear JioCinema fans, We are continuously working to give you a great experience. Please upgrade your app to the latest version to enjoy FIFA WorldCup Qatar 2022. Apologies for any inconvenience.” However, the app did not seem to have brought much improvement till the time of filing the story. Although few people stated that their app on their device is working properly, the problem persists for many.

England captain Harry Kane reportedly will not wear the ‘One Love’ armband against Iran during their FIFA World Cup 2022 Group B match on Monday. The One Love armband is a part of a campaign to promote inclusion and send a message against discrimination of any kind. It was first launched by The Netherlands, and supported by England, France, Denmark, Belgium, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland and Wales. It’s not directly associated to anti-LGBTW laws, but to promote inclusivity in Qatar, a country that has laws against same-sex relationships. However, in a last-minute development the an FA statement issued a statement saying: “FIFA has been very clear that it will impose sporting sanctions if our captains

wear the armbands on the field of play. As national federations, we can’t put our players in a position where they could face sporting sanctions including bookings, so we have asked the captains not to attempt to wear the armbands in FIFA World Cup games. “We were prepared to pay fines that would normally apply to breaches of kit regulations and had a strong commitment to wearing the armband. However, we cannot put our players in the situation where they might be booked or even forced to leave the field of play.

Saving your income in the bank is a good way to ensure future security but investments can help you grow your savings. If you want your money to work for you, then investing it in the right places can work wonders. Investments can be done regardless of age, but senior citizens have to be careful when making any investment decisions. As different people have different demands, one scheme does not work for everyone. Moreover, proper research is necessary to know which bond, security or scheme will align with your demands. Mutual funds are one of the most popular investment schemes out there. However, a misconception related to mutual funds is that they are risky for senior citizens. But, that isn’t quite the case. There are some mutual funds designed for

senior citizens that align with their needs and risk tolerance. Although traditional financial instruments like recurring deposits and fixed deposits are good alternatives, they cannot beat the inflation returns in India at the moment. The objective of mutual funds is to diversify investors’ money through bonds, stocks, and ETFs, among others. The profit-loss dynamics of mutual funds are managed by the market levels and guided by a professional fund manager.
