Men at centre of TikTok video row are a social media rage

Mumbai: On June 5, five young men in carefully coiffed hairdos and designer jackets took the stage at a World Environment Day event held at Carter Road in Mumbai. Despite the presence of established stars such as Jackie Shroff and Swanand Kirkire, the loudest cheers from the hordes of pre-teens and teenagers were reserved for ‘Team 07’, the moniker that the band of five goes by. At least three among the five — all in their early twenties and social media sensations, each with millions of followers online — are now at the centre of the TikTok controversy that erupted following the murderous attack on Tabrez Ansari by a mob in Jharkhand last month.

Chandrayaan-2 in earth orbit, now all eyes on September 7 moon landing The Chandrayaan-2 mission lifted off from the Sriharikota launch range at its appointed time of 2.43 pm. AG. GNS_Sriharikota : India’s quest to land its first spacecraft on the moon got off to a smooth start on Monday afternoon, with the successful launch of Chandrayaan-2 mission a b o a r d t h e c o u n t r y ’s most powerful rocket. The Chandrayaan-2 mission lifted off from the Sriharikota launch range at its appointed time of 0243 pm.The mission would see the lander and rover modules of the spacecraft make a soft-landing on the moon’s surface 48 days from now, on September 7. Both of them will be ‘alive’ there for 14 days, during which they will carry out various experiments and collect data. The mission also has an Orbiter module that will go

around the moon for the next one year in an orbit 100 km from the moon’s surface. During this time, the various instruments on board the Orbiter will study the moon’s surface, its atmosphere, prepare three-dimensional maps, and also search for further evidences of water. After an aborted attempt last week, when scientists had to call off the launch of the mission less than an hour before the lift-off due to a technical glitch, there was some anxiety at the mission control, especially since

the launch window was barely a couple of minutes long. But today’s launch went ahead without any trouble, as the massive 640-tonne

PM Modi watches Chandrayaan-2 lift off from office, gives round of applause Chandrayaan-2 took off on time at 2:43 pm from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre from Sriharikota island off the coast of Andhra Pradesh. AG. GNS_, New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter on Monday to congratulate the nation after the successful launch of Chandrayaan-2, India’s mission to the moon. “Special moments that will be etched in the annals of our glorious history! The launch of #Chandrayaan2 illustrates the prowess of our scientists and the determination of 130 crore Indians to scale new frontiers of science. Every Indian is immensely proud today!” PM Modi tweeted.

Chandrayaan-2 took off on time at 2:43 pm from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre from Sriharikota island off the coast of Andhra Pradesh. The Rs 978 crore mission marks a significant point in India’s space programme making it the fourth country to have landed a rover on moon. ISRO confirmed that the 43.43m tall three-stage rocket GSLV-MkIII-M1, also known as ‘Baahubali’ for carrying heavy payloads, successfully placed the Chandrayaan-2 in the earth’s orbit. The

Will come back as Maharashtra CM the second time, says Fadnavis

AG. GNS_, Mumbai: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday said that he could return as the chief minister for a second tenure after the Maharashtra Assembly polls, reiterating that the saffron allies would contest the polls together and there is no doubt about it.Fadnavis, who spoke at the conclusion of the state’s special executive party meeting in Goregaon, said, “I have already said I will come

GSLV Mk-III rocket carried the 3850-kg Chandrayaan-2 composite module into space. Less than 17 minutes later, Chandrayaan-2 was on its own, having been deposited in an earth orbit

by the rocket, which after burning its successive stages, had separated itself completely from the spacecraft. Chandrayaan-2 will spend the next 23 days circling around the earth,

incrementally raising its orbit, before it would embark on a seven-day journey to enter an orbit around the moon. The jubilation in the mission control was held back till the final separation. At that time, 16 minutes 23 seconds after the launch, scientists in the mission control clapped a bit and then got up to shake hands and congratulate each other.“Today is a historic day for space and science and technology in India. I am extremely happy to announce that that GSLV Mk-III has successfully injected Chandrayaan-2 in desired orbit,” ISRO chairman K Sivan said minutes later. While the Chandrayaan-2 mission still has a long way to go, scientists had the

satisfaction of seeing the GSLV Mk-III rocket, ISRO’s launch vehicle for the future, complete its job successfully on its maiden operational flight. The GSLV Mk-III, which has an interesting history of how technology denial had impeded India’s progress in space, has taken ISRO decades to build. Meant to carry heavy spacecraft, in the range of 4000 to 6000 kg, deeper into the space, GSLV Mk-III had earlier completed one experimental flight and two development flights. Chandrayaan-2 has been its most important mission thus far. Sivan congratulated the mission team for recovering quickly from last week’s setback and applying corrective action in quick time.

The lessons from the Karnataka imbroglio After a prolonged political crisis, the Karnataka assembly may witness a vote today. And this will determine if the Janata Dal (Secular)-Congress government survives or makes way for either fresh elections or a new government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). There has been enough written about the decay of political morality in the state, the spate of defections, the ruthless quest for power on both sides, and the perils of a fractured mandate which created the situation in the first place. But there are two larger takeaways from the Karnataka crisis, which are far more worrying. The first is a complete breakdown of institutions. Each actor in the political system has a well-defined responsibility. The Governor is meant to be a non-partisan figure, above the fray, who does not dabble in politics. The Speaker is meant to be the head of the legislature, who acts in accordance with rules, without favouring any particular side. But in Karnataka, instead of the ruling alliance and the Opposition battling it out, there has been a rather open battle between the Governor -- seen as sympathetic to the BJP -- and the Speaker -- seen as sympathetic to the JD(S)-Congress combine. If individuals representing institutions act in such a prejudiced manner, and disregard the rules of the game, faith in the democratic system itself would diminish. The second takeaway -- a logical corollary of the first -- is that Karnataka represents the erosion of constitutional morality. The Constitution is predicated on the hope that all actors would exercise restraint, and they would submit to due and formal processes in case a conflict erupts. In Bengaluru, over the past week, no actor has observed restraint -- the actions of dissident Members of Legislative Assembly, and the fact that they are being lured by both sides, is a glaring example. And there has also been an unwillingness to let formal processes -- the confidence vote, in this case -- take its own course. This has meant dangerously stepping out of constitutional boundaries. If the example is emulated elsewhere, politicians will end up being increasingly reckless in acquiring power. It is time for the political class to pause and reflect on the consequences of their action.

Rashmika Mandanna is one of New Delhi: Why do you say that you didn’t fit in any roles in Bollywood?Because there were no turban heroes. Initially, even Punjabi films didn’t have actors with turbans. Even when I had started acting, we didn’t have heroes wearing turbans. People had told me not to enter the film industry as ‘it was not my zone’. They said that I should stick to singing songs only because we had Sardar singers but we didn’t have Sardar actors. The Taimur Ali Khan and Inaaya Naumi Kemmu albumThen slowly Sardar actors started doing films in Punjabi cinema and these movies did good business. That’s when people there realised that Sardar actors can also bring business and can be attractive. First, it was believed that people won’t find us attractive enough to come and see us in films. Even I had accepted that. But then things changed for us all. Q) What kind of change would you like to bring about in the portrayal of Sardar characters in Hindi films? What change can I bring alone? But what I feel is that whatever film I am doing, I will make sure that a Sardar character is not made fun of. It is a different thing that Sardars love making merry and having fun, but that doesn’t mean people should make fun of us.

Surat, Kankaria & tragedy called Engineers Act The first and immediate requirement is to change the act from "Civil Engineers Act" to "Engineers Act" and cover all other branches of engineering therein

Ahmedabad: After suffering the horror of watching kids jump to death in Surat, within less than two months, we now saw kids fall to death at Kankaria. Both these tragedies are proving that we have still not recognised that Engineers Act, or rather lack of it is killing people. After the fire tragedy of Surat, I did try to point out the core issue of the power struggle between All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Council of Architecture

(CoA) and act-less community of engineers to retain control over construction engineering without much success, but with more people dying of the same cause, I am going to try again. In India, we have not enacted Engineers Act crucial for regulating the professionals serving as engineers. At this point a person turns into an "engineer" merely by getting a paper degree from any college that has AICTE approval.
