The Supreme Court on Tuesday said it will hear on December 6 the plea of a Congress leader challenging a recent notification by which the sale of electoral bonds has been extended by 15 more days in the year of general elections to legislative assemblies of states and Union Territories (UTs) with a legislature. A bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices Hima Kohli and J B Pardiwala said it will hear the fresh plea by Congress leader Jaya Thakur along with other pending petitions challenging the validity of the 2018 Electoral Bond Scheme on December 6. Hate speech case: Azam Khan granted regular bail Agency News: New Delhi A special MP/MLA court on Tuesday granted regular bail to senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan who has challenged his conviction in the 2019 hate speech case in a sessions court. Khan was disqualified from the Uttar Pradesh Assembly following his conviction and sentencing in the case. Khan’s lawyer Zubair Ahmed said special court judge Alok Dubey had awarded threeyear imprisonment to the leader on October 27 for delivering hate speech during the 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign. At that time he was granted interim bail and an application was made to the court for regular bail, the lawyer said. After hearing arguments of both sides, the court granted regular bail to Khan, he said. Khan, who represented Rampur Sadar in the Assembly, will be out on bail until disposal of his petition by the sessions court.

Singh is currently visiting Cambodia to attend the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) Plus and the maiden India-ASEAN Defence Ministers meeting. How Areez Khambatta’s Rasna became middle class India’s favourite drink Areez Pirojshaw Khambatta, who passed away on Saturday, was not only an industry doyen, but was also known for transforming the way India consumed refreshments. The time was opportune as India had not only achieved Independence a few decades ago, but also the middle-class was slowly emerging with its own aspirations. Equipped with a company handed over by his father Phiroja Khambatta, Areez Khambatta recognised the need of the rising middle class and gave them a new kind of soft drink in a glass. In a market populated by the popular drinks of Gold Spot, Thumbs up and Limca in the 1970s, Khambatta gave them the soft drink concentrate, Rasna. It started gaining popularity by the 80s. The new drink had resonated with the consumers with its orange avatar and freshness. Not only that, it was affordable too. A pack of Rasna costing Rs 5 could be converted into 32 glasses of soft drinks, amounting to 15 paise per glass. To top it all, the advertising campaign, complete with the Rasna girl – in line with the Nirma and Amul girls – saying “I love you, Rasna”, buoyed the popularity of the soft drink concentrate. Kerala: School teacher held for molesting student A school teacher has been arrested for allegedly molesting his student while dropping her back home after a youth festival event held here. The principal and two other teachers of the higher secondary school here were also arrested for allegedly persuading the mother of the 15-year-old girl to drop the complaint against the accused, police said on Tuesday. Ankita Bhandari’s Parents Stage Dharna to Press for CBI Probe into Her Killing The parents of Ankita Bhandari on Tuesday held a protest in Rishikesh to demand a CBI probe into her killing. Ankita, who worked as a receptionist at Vanantara resort near Rishikesh, was killed in September allegedly by its owner Pulkit Arya and his two associates after she refused to yield to pressure to offer “extra services” to a “VIP” guest. Arya, who is the son of a nowexpelled BJP leader, along with the other two accused in the case are behind bars. Alleging that the SIT probing the case is under pressure to shield the guilty, Ankita’s father Virendra Singh Bhandari said he does not have confidence in the ongoing investigation and his demand for a CBI probe have fallen on deaf ears. Two Allahabad High Court judges recently took stock of the progress made on the widening of roads to ease the traffic congestion around the High Court building at Prayagraj. Justice Saurabh Shyam Shamshery and Justice Rohit Ranjan Agarwal conducted an inspection and took note of the traffic plan prepared by the Administration of District Prayagraj to get rid of the daily traffic jams around the High Court. Justice Shamshery, on Monday, noted in his order, that during the inspection, the plan, which has prepared after taking suggestions from stakeholders, was explained to him and Justice Agarwal by the senior officers of the city administration as well as the President High Court Bar Association RK Ojha, Government Advocate SK Pal, and other advocates. He stated that Justice Agarwal and he found the plan satisfactory and
opined that Administration has taken the right steps to resolve the issue. Accordingly, Justice Shamshery posted the matter for further hearing in the last week of January 2023, while stating, “The court hopes that the plan will be implemented completely, preferably within a period of two months”. The development took place during the hearing on a plea that was essentially moved under Section 482 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), seeking certain directions to the Principal Judge, Family Court, Allahabad, however, which was later confined to the issue of traffic congestion near the high court building.

The 21-year-old woman, Ayushi Yadav, was allegedly killed by her father as the parents were unhappy over her inter-caste marriage, according to the police. Acting Senior Superintendent of Police Martand Prakash Singh told newspersons the woman’s father was nabbed on Sunday and her mother the next day considering her an equal partner in the crime after the recovery of the revolver used in the crime, and the car in which the body was carried. The post-mortem examination on the woman, a resident of Delhi, was conducted by a panel of three doctors. It found two bullets were fired at her one of which pierced through her chest and the other got stuck in her head, police said, adding the post-mortem was also videographed. India and Australia would now implement the free trade agreement on a mutually agreed date as the Australian Parliament on Tuesday approved the pact between the two countries, an official said on Tuesday. “BREAKING: Our Free Trade Agreement with India has passed through parliament,” Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said in a tweet. The India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (AI-ECTA) needed ratification by the Australian parliament before its implementation. In India, such pacts are approved by the Union Cabinet. Commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal said in a tweet: “Delighted that IndiaAustralia Economic Cooperation & Trade Agreement has been
passed by Australian Parliament. “A result of our deep friendship, it sets the stage for us to unleash the full potential of our trade ties & spur massive economic growth.” Last week, the Joint Standing Committee on Treaties of Australia recommended the Australian government to ratify the pact. After the ratification, both sides will decide a date to implement the pact and customs authorities will also issue a notification a day before the implementation, the official said. The agreement, once implemented, will provide duty-free access to the Australian market for over 6,000 broad sectors of India, including textiles, leather, furniture, jewellery and machinery. Under the pact, Australia is offering zero-duty access to India for about 96.4 per cent of exports (by value) from day one.

The Delhi-born actor, who recently completed 10 years in the Hindi film industry, said his entry in showbiz is the result of a plan that didn’t work out in the first place. “In my life, whatever I’ve planned has not really panned out within that time frame. I’m a man who’s trying to make a plan but eventually I have realised that God or destiny had other plans for me. So, I’m learning to surrender now,” Sidharth told. In the late 2000s, Sidharth came to Mumbai, the home of Hindi cinema, to become an actor. He had successfully auditioned for a film with a prominent filmmaker but the project never materialised. “I thought I cracked it at such a young age. But that film never took off. So that plan did not work out okay. And then I was out of a job in Bombay. I was thinking that I’ll make some pocket money in modelling and that plan only worked out for a few months. Then, I was out of job again and struggling to survive in Bombay. I never planned to be an assistant director but I became one. Life has taught me so much,” the 37-year-old actor said. Sidharth served as an assistant director on Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s 2010 movie My Name is Khan, directed by Karan Johar. Two years later, Karan launched the actor with his 2012 directorial Student of the Year, along with Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan. Since then, Sidharth has had a whirlwind journey in the industry with both hits and misses to his credit.
