The 11th round of talks between government and farm union leaders ended in deadlock on Friday as the government rejected the demand for repeal of the three contentious laws. These laws are the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act 2020. No new date for next round of talks has been announced although the government said that the next round of talks will only take place if farm union representatives accept the previous proposal of the government of stalling the
implementation of farm laws for 18 months. The farmers have also reiterated their plan to carry out a Tractor Rally on Republic Day in Delhi. The rally in the national capital will run at the same time as Republic Day celebrations on January 26. The Delhi police
on Friday proposed a route map to the farmers where the farmers could hold a tractor rally on January 26. The farmer groups confirmed they had received a proposal from the police but said they would respond only after holding a meeting on Saturday.

Ailing RJD leader Lalu Prasad to be shifted to AIIMS in Delhi Jailed Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav will be taken to AIIMS in Delhi for treatment after his health deteriorated further, media reports said. He is likely to be accompanied by his son and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav and his family.At present, the former Bihar Chief Minister is under treatment at a hospital in Ranchi. Lalu Prasad was sentenced to jail after he was convicted in the Bihar fodder scam. The jail’s medical board has given its green light to shift the leader to AIIMS Delhi. The jail administration, however, will still need the permission of the lower court to move Lalu Yadav to Delhi. Tejashwi Yadav said he would speak with Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren about his father. “We want better treatment for him. His situation is serious. I will meet the Chief Minister on Saturday,” Tejashwi Yadav told reporters in Ranchi on Friday. Yadav said his father who has undergone heart surgery earlier has been diagnosed with pneumonia. Top Court was hearing a petition filed by Kisan Mahapanchayat, seeking reconstitution of the panel after the recusal of Bharatiya Kisan Union (Mann) leader B S Mann. Bench issued notice on the application and sought the Centre’s response on the same.What to expect in the next hearing? The Centre is expected to file its reply to the aforementioned application. The Solicitor General had, on the last date, agreed with the Chief Justice’s strong objections against those casting casting aspersions on the constitution of the Committee. Centre had also asked the Centre to withdraw the plea seeking intervention of the Court to halt the impending tractor rally in Delhi. Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati informed Supreme Court that Delhi was one of the most habitual offenders as far as Yamuna Pollutants were concerned. Perarivalan had applied to the Governor for pardon on December 30, 2015, following which the Supreme Court deemed it fit for the Governor to proceed with it. The decision is still pending. With the Centre informing the Court that Tamil Nadu’s Governor will decide on Perarivalan’s pardon in a short while, this issue is expected to soon come to a close . The Top Court formulated a Committee of experts to look into the delays concerning criminal trials across courts in the Indian legal system. The bench passed the order after Senior Advocates Siddharth Luthra and R Besant (Amicus Curiae) informed Court that they have submitted draft rules on criminal practice. Bench was hearing its suo motu case titled “In Re: To Issue Certain Guidelines Regarding Inadequacies And Deficiencies In Criminal Trials”. Luthra had informed the Court today that they had only received responses from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana High Court. “20 High Courts have chosen not to respond even after we held consultations,” he added. The Border Security Force on Saturday found a 150-metre long underground tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir that had been used by Pakistani intelligence to infiltrate terrorists into India. Dr Vishwas Amin, medical director of the Ahmedabad chapter of Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), said that they carried out the camp with city-based Jain Lotus Group where they collected 700 units of blood between December 21and 31.“Buoyed by the success of the model, we have also started a similar camp with ADC Bank,” he said.Giving an insight into the process, Mayur Shah, president of Jain Lotus Group, said that it was their 25th consecutive year of blood donation.“We did not want the pandemic to interrupt our silver run. The IRCS agreed to send its blood collection vans after which we reached out to our 925 members, asking them to provide convenient date, time and location,” he said, adding that it was a success with a large number of donors coming forward not only from residential areas but also industrial areas of Odhav, Rakhial, Lambha, Ratanpur and so on.He added that it was an achievement of sorts as the donation
