Congress Doesn’t Have a Leader, Forget Matching PM Modi: SM Krishna Agency | New Delhi

Veteran politician S.M. Krishna, who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has clearly blamed Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi for his exit from the grand old party, stating that one should be serious if one has to re-build the party from grass root level to the paramount level. “I have been watching from past two and a half years that the leader of the Congress, excluding Sonia Gandhi the party is least concerned about the party. There is no seriousness at all. If one has to re-build the party from grass root level to the paramount level, one should be serious.” Krishna said. “But I did not find neither commitment nor that capacity to sweat it out,” he added. The Islamic State group on Thursday claimed the deadly assault at the British parliament, as Prime Minister Theresa May identified the attacker as a British-born man known to intelligence services. “An act of terrorism tried to silence our democracy,” Ms. May told a packed House of Commons, which stood for a minute’s silence in remembrance of the victims of Wednesday’s strike on the symbol of Britain’s democracy. “We are not afraid and our resolve will never waver in the face of terrorism,” Ms. May said. Armed police have arrested eight people in raids linked to the rampage that left three people dead and sowed panic in the heart of London. The IS said it was

responsible, according to the Amaq propaganda agency linked to the jihadist organisation. “The perpetrator of yesterday’s attack in front of the British parliament was a soldier of the Islamic State and the operation was carried out in response to calls to target coalition countries,” Amaq said citing a “security source”. Defiant British lawmakers returned to “business as usual” in the surreal silence of an area of central London normally thronged with tour-

ists. Twenty-nine people were treated in hospital, including seven in critical condition, some with “catastrophic” injuries. Among them were French school children and foreign tourists. The attacker mowed down pedestrians with a car on Westminster bridge, killing two, and then jumped out and stabbed to death a police officer guarding parliament before being shot dead. The carnage was unleashed on the same day Brussels was mark-

ing the anniversary of Islamic State group bombings that killed 32 people. Hundreds of extra police were on patrol in London as officers worked around the clock to piece together what happened in the deadliest attack in Britain since four suicide bombers killed 52 people on the capital’s transport system in July 2005. Europe has been on high alert after a wave of deadly jihadist assaults over the past two years. Ms. May said the attacker’s identity was known to the police and the MI5 domestic intelligence service. He was British-born and some years ago had been a “peripheral figure” investigated over concerns about violent extremism. “There was no prior intelligence of his intent — or of the plot,” Ms. May said.

In the meantime, Air India has lodged a complaint with police against

the minister, said. Air India is also registering another FIR against Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Gaikwad for forcibly holding the flight, delaying it for 40 minutes. Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Gaikwad admitted on Thursday that he assaulted an Air India staffer with his slippers over seating arrangement in the aircraft. “Haan maine usko maara tha, usne badtameezi ki thi (Yes, I hit him. He misbehaved with me),” Gaikwad was quoted saying said.

ter he tried to drive into a crowd at high-speed in a shopping area in the port city of Antwerp, a police chief said. The man was of north African origin and used a car with French registration plates, Antwerp police chief Serge Muyters said. The incident came a day after an attack on the British parliament killed three people plus the attacker, as well as after the first anniversary of the Brussels attacks in which 32 people died. “A vehicle with French plates has tried to drive at

news conference. “The pedestrians had to jump aside,” he said. “My gratitude on behalf of all Antwerp to the oldiers who have intervened, the police services and the special intervention force,” Antwerp mayor Bart de Wever tweeted. Prime Minister Charles Michel said the government was “following this situation as it develops” in the Flemish- speaking northern city. “We continue to be vigilant. Our security services did an excellent job in Antwerp, thanks,” he tweeted.

An NIA court in Hyderabad on Thursday granted bail to former Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) activist Aseemanand in the Mecca Masjid blast case. He will walk out of jail soon after the formalities are completed. “Since he was acquitted in the Ajmer dargah blast case recently and is already on bail in the Samjhauta Express blast case, now the bail in the Mecca Masjid blast case has ensured that he will come out of the jail soon as soon as the formalities are completed,” Aseem-

anand’s lawyer Manbir Rathi told The Hindu over the phone. Aseemanand is currently in Jaipur prison, Mr. Rathi added. On March 8, 2017, Aseemanand was acquitted of terror charges in the 2007 Ajmer dargah blast case, which left three persons dead and 17 injured. The dargah was packed to ca-

pacity with around 5,000 devotees when the blast occurred at the time of iftaar (breaking of fast). In 2014, the Punjab and Haryana High Court granted bail to Assemanand in the Samjhauta Express blast case. The National Investigation Agency did not challenge it in the apex court.

against doctors who have resumed work. The matter will be heard again in 15 days. The Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD), meanwhile, filed an affidavit in the court stating that they are ready to work but want to be assured of their safety from the

government and administration. The Bombay High Court’s observation comes in the wake of a mass protest in the state, which began on Monday. More than 1,000 doctors are protesting incidents of assault on doctors by patients’ families, and are demanding better security at hospitals. Further, the court was also responding to the notices served to resident doctors across the state. 272 residents from B J Medical Col-

lege and Sassoon General Hospital were “expelled” for failing to resume duty. A fresh attack against a resident doctor took place on Wednesday night by a patient’s relatives at Sion Hospital. A police complaint was filed against three women for allegedly assaulting a senior pediatric. It’s the second case in Sion this week. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis broke his silence on the issue Thursday, condemning the at-

tacks on doctors. Making an ardent appeal to all doctor organisations to withdraw their indefinite strike, he reassured that the government will provide better security and enforcements. “I would also like to state that doctors ongoing strike has caused lot of inconvenience to people specially the poor patients who are deprived of medical treatment,” he said, speaking in the state legislative assembly.

It is not a hit-and-run job nor is it a part-time job.” He further added: “…dynastic succession without competence cannot last. I was among the many Congress leaders who requested Rajiv Gandhi to take charge of the party after the assassination of Indira Gandhi. Rajiv was competent. He was an eloquent speaker, connected so well with people. It was only later

in his tenure as the Prime Minister, he couldn’t handle things.” ‘In the Uttar Pradesh elections, the smaller parties which were given 30 seats, won at least nine seats. On the other hand, here a national party who ruled for so many years took 100 seats from the other party and in return gave six or seven seats,’ he added. Hailing Congress president Sonia Gandhi for her leadership quality, Krishna said, “She used to address so many public meetings and how she used to act with workers. She used to identify workers by names.

Adityanath’s ‘anti-Romeo’ squads will not make UP any safer for women There is a piece of good news. Uttar Pradesh, a state that usually is at the bottom of the heap when it comes to health, education, infrastructure, has finally broken out of the BIMARU mould. This means the state administrators may just have some time to spare. Not anymore for the political leaders have hit upon a novel idea of using their time much more fruitfully: Chase ‘Romeos’. So the new BJP state administration under Yogi Adityanath has started ‘anti-Romeo’ squads to check “eve-teasing”, which is a gentler term for sexual harassment. A day after his taking over, ‘anti-Romeo’ squads of policemen fanned out across the state. The campaign, which was a BJP pre-poll promise, was, as expected, marked by harassment of innocent youths. One of the election manifesto promises expressly delivered by the Yogi Adityanath government is the setting up of special “Anti-Romeo” squads aimed at checking eve-teasing and harassment of women in public places and especially around schools and colleges. The police were instructed to take action against “Romeos” — which loosely means miscreant elements that casually harass women and girls. “The ideal is to reclaim public spaces and make them safe for women,” said UP DGP Javeed Ahmed, who was told by CM Yogi Adityanath on Monday to come up with a plan to improve law and order. Surely, it is high time law and order reacts to the lack of safety for women in public places and this should be a welcome move. However, there are several reasons for apprehension about this swift move. Merely two days have passed and several reports of unjustified actions, at times distinctly like moral policing of couples and mixed groups, taken by the squads have surfaced — including forcing young men found with young women to do hold ears and do sit-ups in public. Thousands of young men hanging around in cities like Lucknow, Meerut and Jhansi, to name a few, have been questioned, shamed and their ‘activities’ reported to their parents without necessarily any indication of misbehavior with women on their part. Some were of course arrested as well. The UP police thus far has clearly stated that its sole aim is to act against those who indulge in eve-teasing and that there will be no moral policing. DGP Javeed Ahmed has promised strict action against police officers who indulged in moral policing if complaints are made against them.

Government Departments Are Leaking Your Personal Data, and You Should Be Worried

(H.S.) | New Delhi The Aadhaar has been criticised for its potential to be used for surveillance, for its reliance on biometric data which can’t be updated unlike PINs and passwords, and because it is steadily becoming a mandatory identity document, which you increasingly won’t be able to opt-out from. Worse still, it turns out that this data is barely being secured either. A Medium post by user St_Hill talks of certain problems with the Aadhaar, and highlighted how - with just a basic Google search - you can access the private data of thousands of individuals. There is no hacking, no social engi-

neering, or anything else involved - just one Google search, and thousands of people’s private data. With a single Google search, we were able to get access to multiple Excel sheets with data from the Ministry of Human Resource Development’s website. These files are available to download with a single click, and contain detailed information about the people listed in them. All we had to do was search for “Aadhaar number name filetype:xls” and the very first page has three results from the MHRD website which contain the details of people we should not have. The first of these gave us the details of over 1,000 people who have received a scholarship from the MHRD - we could see their names, their father’s names, gender, date of birth, general or SC/ ST category.

Pad Man: India ashamed of sexuality, says Radhika Apte Agency | New Delhi

Radhika Apte, who has often been under the scanner for her “bold” approach in her films, says anything remotely associated with human body can turn out to be a problem in India -- a country that is “very ashamed of sexuality and physicality”. Sex and sexuality are not the only veiled topics of discussion in the country. Menstruation also finds a spot on the list, and Radhika is happy that the topic is being handled in a “big way” in her upcoming Bollywood film Pad Man -- which tells a true sto-

ry of a man’s journey to make affordable sanitary napkins. Starting with the poster in the shape of a sanitary napkin, Radhika feels the film will help overcome the hes-

itation which surrounds a natural process that a woman goes through every month. “I think our country is very ashamed of sexuality, physicality, or human body. Anything to do with human body or sexuality is a problem here,” said Radhika. Despite the critical acclaim coming her way aplenty, Radhika has often been in news for being “bold” in her films -- be it an intimate scene with co-star Adil Hussain in Parched being leaked online, or a clip of a semi-nude Radhika from an Anurag Kashyap-directed short film making its way on to the web.

Sonakshi Sinha Wants To Ask Salman Khan The ‘Same Question’ He’s Been Asked So Often (H.S.) | New Delhi

Actress Sonakshi Sinha will soon be seen playing a journalist in Noor. Ahead of the release of Noor, she lined up a couple of questions she would like to ask Salman Khan, her co-star of the Dabangg films and Son of Sardaar, and her father Shatrughan Sinha, said. If Sonakshi Sinha were a journalist, she would love to enquire about something which “everyone” is curious to know about and from Salman Khan. The 29-year-old actress made an indirect reference to the enquiry if Salman is getting married anytime soon. “To Salman, I would ask the same question everyone is asking him for years,” said Sonakshi, said. Salman is rumoured to be dating Romanian model and actress Iulia Vantur, who is a regular at Salman Khan’s family get-togethers. When asked about playing a journalist to her father, Sonakshi said: “If I had to ask my dad a question, I would ask something to which he won’t say ‘khamosh’.” Meanwhile, for the lack of more details, Salman has provided his fans with a half-truth of sorts, in which the wedding date is revealed. Mind it, it’s just the date - a revelation about the year is still pending. “Yes. 18th November.Yeh 18th November kuch bees pachees November se chal raha hai.

Why Anushka Sharma let go of her singing debut in Phillauri Agency | Mumbai

Anushka Sharma would have very well joined the club of actresses-turned-singers had she decided to retain her version of Naughty Billo in Phillauri. The film’s music director, Shashwat Sachdev, has revealed that the party track, which features Shilpi Paul as the female vocalist, was first recorded in Anushka’s voice, but the actor asked him to discard it. “We were in the studio and when she asked me to make her hear the song, I told her we don’t have a vocalist yet. So, she decided to sing along with me in the studio just so that we know how the song has shaped up. It was a spontaneous decision. I recorded that. Later, when I made others listen to it, everyone loved it. I told Anushka ma’am that this should be the final version but she didn’t like it. She told me, ‘I am not a singer. I sang in jest. Please take someone else’,”said. That’s how Shilpi got her Bollywood debut song. Shashwat says Anushka was, in fact, quite keen on getting a new voice for the song, which also has vocals by Diljit Dosanjh and Nakash Aziz. “Her view was that she is not anyway interested in pursuing it, but the song might become a big break for some aspiring singer. Hence, she said that we should go for some new voice,” said the music composer, who himself makes his Bollywood debut with the movie.

Oh no! Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon BREAK UP! Yes, its heartbreaking, but lovebirds Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon have called it quits (H.S.) | New Delhi Looks like another couple from the tinsel town has called it quits. Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon allegedly started dating while shooting for their upcoming movie Raabta. If latest reports are anything to go by, the alleged love affair between the two has gone kaput now. Although, both of them have repeatedly denied seeing each other but reports suggested that they were very much together for almost a year before they started having differences. As per a BollywoodLife report, apparently Sushant’s mood swings and temperamental issues made things quite difficult for Kriti, who got equally clingy over time. Reportedly, both of them realised that things are not working out between them and hence they mutually decided to call it quits before it got too late. The report further adds that the duo never admitted to their relationship in public because they were never sure about their relationship. Moreover, since Sushant was just out of a break up with Ankita Lokhande, Kriti was trying to figure out her way in B-Town, so both of them didn’t want to commit to each other. The duo has even stopped making public appearances together. It’ll be interesting to see how the promotions of Raabta are planned if they continue to avoid making public appearances.

3 / Dt. 24-03-2017, Friday Poor nutrition, unhealthy lifestyles augment risk of Tuberculosis by 30% Sunvilla News | Ahmedabad

With over two lakh deaths attributed to it annually, tuberculosis is a major health burden in India that needs to be controlled imminently. Apart from raising awareness about its diagnosis and treatment, it is also important to spread awareness about the need for maintaining healthy lifestyles and nutrition levels to bolster the body’s defences against the disease. As we observe World TB Day doctors at Columbia Asia Hospitals, Ahmedabad inform that TB bacillus is widely prevalent in India, with almost 8 out of 10 people carrying the dormant bacteria. A major key to fighting off this bacteria is strengthening the body’s immune

defences, by adopting a healthy lifestyle. Doctors say poor nutrition and unhealthy lifestyles can up your risk of Tuberculosis by 30% “We hear a lot of talk about Tuberculosis, and the need to treat the last infected person. However, not much is spoken about the need for prevention. In many cases, a healthy lifestyle can help an individual save himself/herself from the potentially dangerous bacteria. Since TB bacillus is widely prevalent in India, Indians are highly exposed to the bacteria everywhere. If you are weak, your nutrition levels poor, and you lead unhealthy lifestyles that further weaken your body, you become an easy prey to it. On the other hand, if you maintain healthy lifestyles.

India vs Australia: Visitors and their deciding Test troubles

As India and Australia go into the deciding fourth Test in Dharamsala, we take a look at visitors’ previous forays into a crucial match Agency | New Delhi The iconic HPCA stadium in Dharamsala is all set to witness it’s first ever Test match. The coin will flip for the first time at the scenic venue in the longest format on March 25 when the two teams India and Australia take center stage for the final encounter. The fourmatch Test series is level at 1-1 with the last match to be played at one of the most beautiful grounds in the country. After all the verbal spats and sledging, both on and off-field, the two teams will now lock horns in the decider. But this is not the first time that Australia have found themselves in a state where they would have to battle it out in the deciding match. The 2003-04 India’s tour of Australia is still remembered as one of the finest ones. The roller-coaster ride in the series took the excitement

to the next level and the Sydney Cricket Ground was totally up for another spectacular tie. After winning the toss India got off to a flying start. But the real drama popped up when Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman smashed a mammoth stand of 353 runs for the fourth wicket. Tendulkar didn’t really enjoy a great run that tour but this innings from the former skipper changed everything. He scored a brutal 241 runs which was his then career best. Alongside, Laxman too chipped in with 178 runs to guide India to a total of

705/7 (decl.) in the first innings. In reply Australia were bundled out for 474 runs after Justin Langer and Simon Katich came up with individual hundreds. In the second innings, Tendulkar once again came up with an aesthetic knock of unbeaten 60 runs with Rahul Dravid who remained not out at 91. India scored 211/2 in the second innings handing Australia a target of 443 runs in the second innings. Though, some good batting performances from the Aussie batting line up anchored the match towards a draw.

Pacers will have an advantage on Dharamsala pitch, says curator Agency | Ranchi

Like Ranchi, Dharamsala too will be making its Test debut when it hosts the fourth Test match between India and Australia. But unlike the pitch in Ranchi, Dharamsala will offer true bounce and carry for all the five days of the Test. According to chief-curator Sunil Chauhan, who is in-charge of the pitch at the HPCA Stadium, the 22 yard-strip will offer genuine assistance to the faster bowlers. “That is how the nature of the pitch has been here. I have left it grassy and thereby the pacers will have an advantage. It will be fast and so they will play an important role in the match.” With the highest tem-

Giving up his best-loved game was entrenched his mind as he licked his wounds as it were on his return from the Caribbean. One evening, he gets a call from the most destructive batsman to play the game, his batting

idol - Sir Vivian Richards. Strengthened by Richards’ positive talk and Ajit Tendulkar’s optimism of his younger brother lifting the 2011 World Cup made Tendulkar head to the training ground again. In four years’ time, he was doing just that at his beloved Wankhede Stadium - lifting the World Cup.

Sunvilla News | Ahmedabad

The western region incharge of the RSS, Dr Jayantibhai Bhadesia, said on Wednesday that efforts of the sangh and other Hindu organizations, the Shabri Kumbh in Dang, and the four recent Virat Hindu Sammelans had together worked to reduce conversions in the tribal belt of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. He said that conversions were still “a matter of concern” in many other states. “Missionary activities in the northeastern states and many other parts of the country have led to the alienation of tribal communities,” Bhadesia said. “But now awareness among the communities about their Hindu identity has grown.” Bhadesia was addressing a gathering of mediapersons. Bhadesia also informed the media about the outcome of the Akhil Bhartiya Pratinidhi Sabha held from 19th to 21st March in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. He said that the RSS expressed concern over “increased atrocities of Leftist organizations on Hindus” in West Bengal, in places like Malda and Dhulagarh. He said that the situation in Kerala was also alarming specially after the CPM government took over. “The attacks on Hindu families have increased,” he said. “It is the duty of the government to protect people and provide them security to establish confidence in the administration.”

The state government will open a special tribal varsity in Narmada district and an organic agricultural university in Gandhinagar. Birsa Munda Tribal University will be set up at Rajpipla. The figures also revealed how women faced domestic violence in the state even during pregnancy. The NFHS figures said that 1.8% women including 0.4 % women in city and 3 % in the villages faced spousal violence when they were pregnant. Exposing the injustices of male dominated society and how a patriarchal system rules even in present days, the figures say that while overall 85.4% women participate in household decisions the rest are kept away. In urban areas, 86.9% women participate in household decisions which drops to 84.2% women in rural areas.
