Modi govt has done a perfect job battling Covid so far. Now preparedness, caution are key Just as the Indian economy was beginning to limp back to normality and people had started disposing of their unused stock of masks and sanitisers, the news of the possible return of the Covid pandemic has hit the headlines. India’s track record of handling the coronavirus and vaccination programme was lauded by many foreign governments and international agencies. Truly, the Cowin portal was one of the finest and remarkable technologies that not only provided the pathway for mass vaccination but also kept up today’s early records and made it available to millions with just a few clicks on their computers or mobiles. As for lockdown and containment of Covid-19 was concerned, both the government and the people were on the same page and fought the battle against the pandemic with minimum collateral damage. The loss of lives was an unfortunate reality which none can deny or overlook. Yet, picking up the loose ends and returning to normality in private and institutional lives was quick. The news of the Omicron variant BF.7 wreaking havoc in some Chinese cities has revived the nightmare of the past. The share market in India slipped as news of the troubled Chinese economy trickled in. Fear of the resurgence of the pandemic and apprehensions of subsequent lockdown can scare the investors, besides wilting the green shoots in the economy. While panic in the market is a serious matter, it is certainly not as serious as the panic among the people. During the thick of the pandemic, people rushed for oxygen cylinders resulting in hoarding and acute shortage driven by fear and greed. Misinformation and rumours are probably greater health hazards than even the virus itself. According to initial information on the new variants, the virulence of the virus seems to be comparatively less and the affliction does not appear to be - Kapilkumar M. Hirpara fatal in many cases.

Agency News: Nagpur The matter pertains to allotment of a land parcel in Nagpur by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde when he was the urban development minister in the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government. The Bombay High Court was earlier told the land meant for housing slum-dwellers was allotted to private persons. On December 14, a division bench of Justices Sunil Shukre and M W Chandwani of the HC’s Nagpur bench, ordered status quo on the land allotment

decision taken by Shinde in 2021. On Tuesday, Shinde said as the urban development minister in 2021, he had passed an order in which he did not recommend reducing or decreasing the rate of land in question, but noted that charges should be applied for the plot as per government rules. The CM had said when it was brought to his notice that the land allotment matter was pending in the court, he cancelled his earlier order, dated April 20, 2021, on December 16, 2022. The government is working

on the tribal-related issues, removing discrepancies, and has ensured to give justice to them, he added. The minister said various members have raised demands to add more communities from their respective areas to the tribal list and the government is sensitive about it. ”The government is trying to solve the issues,” he said, adding the government has taken similar requests for the states of Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Karnataka. While participating in the debate, members from different parties sought reservations for tribal communities from their areas. M Thambidurai of the AIADMK supported the bill and said some more communities from Tamil Nadu need to be added to this. He said fishing is also hunting in the sea, so therefore there is a demand from Tamil Nadu to add fishermen into the tribal communities.

Agency News : New Delhi Veteran India cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara on Friday added another feather to his cap as he became the eighth batter from the country to complete 7,000 runs in Test cricket. Pujara joined the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sunil Gavaskar, VVS Laxman, Virender Sehwag, Virat Kohli and Sourav Ganguly on the Indian list of batters to achieve the feat in Test cricket. Pujara brought up the landmark when he scored his 16th-run on

Day 2 of the ongoing second Test against Bangladesh in Dhaka. But he couldn’t carry on to get a big score and got out for a cheap 24 off 55 balls. Pujara was instrumental in India’s victory in the first Test at Chattogram where he scored 102 not out in the second innings to put the visitors in the driver’s seat. Pujara’s place has been under scrutiny over the past few months due to his inconsistency with the bat but the 34-year-old has managed to silence his critics with his recent knocks. Pujara was dropped from the Indian Test squad along with Ajinkya Rahane after the series in South Africa. But while Rahane continued to remain on the sidelines, Pujara fought his way back in the team after a tremendous season with Sussex in English County cricket. He was recalled to the squad for the postponed fifth Test against England and hasn’t looked back since.

It depends on the actor how to make the part in the movie memorable.” Akshay has also recently signed the Sara Ali Khan and Vikrant Massey-starrer Gaslight.
