Although the main thrust of Kumar was on the virtues of abstinence and the necessity for a prohibition law, he also touched upon the need to eradicate illegalised, but prevalent nonetheless, social evils like child marriage and dowry “Many people are angry with me because I have brought in prohibition. They say we should at least exempt those coming from other states. Do people come to Bihar to drink?” exclaimed Kumar who is the longest-serving chief minister of the state. Notably, there have been fresh demands for exempting “outsiders” like in Gujarat, another dry state, in the aftermath of a police overkill to enforce the ban on liquor.

Former Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha (GJM) leader Binoy Tamang finally put to rest speculations about the “third innings” of his political career when he joined the Trinamool Congress in Kolkata on Friday afternoon. In 2017, during the agitation in Darjeeling Hills for a separate state of Gorkhaland, Tamang fell out with Bimal Gurung, his party

colleague and formed a new faction. In July, the two factions merged and Bimal Gurung now heads the party. Tamang was made the chairman of the board of administrators in the semi-autonomous Gorkhaland Territorial Administration by the state government after he and another senior GJM leader Anit Thapa joined hands with the government and foiled the Gorkhaland movement “I am grateful to chief minister.

Reconnect With People And Move Forward

The 26th day of December, 1925 is an unforgettable day in the history of Communist movement in India. That was the day on which the CPI was born. Though it was a day ofDecember cold in Kanpur, the young revolutionaries who had gathered there were thrilledwith the fire of unflinching hope and aspirations of a new world. They came from variousparts of the country representing the newly born communist groups in places like Madras,Calcutta, Bombay, Punjab, Kanpur etc. Even beyond the borders of India, in places likeTashkent Communist groups were formed prior to the founding conference of the party onIndian soil. Their dream was a free and prosperous India, marching ahead through the pathof socialism. Of course, it was not a spontaneous outcome of accidental events. It was apurposeful footstep taken after much deliberations taking place in an unfavourable socio-political background. British imperialism and their Indian henchmen were trying hard topluck off even the slightest shoots of anti-colonial awakening. Yet the Communist Party wasborn in Indian soil, as it was an irresistible historical necessity. The course of history has been changed by the triumph of great October socialist revolutionin 1917. Its message was reverberating among the oppressed masses and also nations in allcontinents. At the call of great October, which was inspired by the emancipatory ideology ofMarxism, revolutionary groups began to acquire a new insight of social change. In India theNaujawan Bharat Sabha and the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association led by BhagatSingh and his comrades, the band of youth led by Surya Sen, the Jugantar and Anushilangroups in Bengal were all part of this awakening. In 1908 itself when Bal Gangadhara Tilakwas arrested, the workers in Bombay declared a strike, the first ever political strike of Indianworking class! It was for six days as Tilak was to be in incarceration for six years. "ReleaseTilak " was their only slogan that stormed the streets of Bombay. Learning about this workingclass action, Lenin wrote that the Indian working class has attained maturity. That maturityled to the foundation of AITUC in 1920. Along with the workers, the peasants, the youth andother downtrodden sections rose in revolt against colonial rule. Their quest for a new path ofstruggle paved the way for the formation of Communist Party. Disillusionment in the ranks ofCongress caused by the half-hearted actions of its leadership also urged the Indianrevolutionaries to search for new avenues of freedom and progress.Even before its inception, Communist Party and its ideology were attacked by the forces ofdarkness led by British imperialists. Conspiracy cases one after another were framed againstthe young revolutionaries who jumped into the battlefield, influenced by the ideals ofsocialism. There were five Peshawar legal cases that took place from 1922 to 1928, theKanpur conspiracy case, the Lahore conspiracy case, the Meerut conspiracy case, the listwas long and without respite as the British rulers were keen to crush any opposing voices. Iffalsification and conspiracies could have killed the Communist Party, it would not haveexisted in this country. But braving all the odds instigated by the oppressors and classenemies, the Communists were relentless in their struggle to liberate the country whilemoving towards a new world. The slogan of complete independence was aired by the Communists in Indian political horizon. In 1921 at the Ahmedabad session of Indian NationalCongress, it was Hasrat Mohani who moved the resolution for complete independence. Themove was rejected. Just one year later, in 1922, at the Gaya session of the Congress,Singaravelu Chettiyar repeated the same demand with a larger support. After five years, bythe end of 1926, in the foundation conference of the CPI at Kanpur, Hasrat Mohani becamethe chairman of the reception committee. Singaravelu Chettiyar was the president of thefoundation conference of CPI. Since those eventful days, the Communists did playundeniable role in the freedom struggle of India. In building up the All India Kisan Sabha, the All India Students Federation, the progressive writers association, all in 1930s.Organizations of youth, women and other oppressed masses also were formed withcommunists in the forefront. The history of the CPI is a great saga filled with heroic struggles and sacrifices. The party ledthe masses on their march for freedom from economic, political as well as social oppression. Eventful armed - Kapilkumar M. Hirpara struggles in Telengana.

I really had tears in my eyes when the film got over, because it brought back so

many memories,” Shastri said. He lauded filmmaker Kabir Khan’s project and the actors. “The cast, the efforts they put in… Ranveer (Singh) as Kapil Dev. Winter Olympics: Japan won’t send government delegation to Beijing

Japan announced Friday it won’t send a delegation of ministers to represent the government at the Beijing Games but three Olympic officials will attend, a mixed response to a US-led move to boycott the games to protest China’s human rights conditions. Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno told a regular news conference that “We have no plans to send a government delegation.” He said Tokyo Olympic Organizing Committee

President Seiko Hashimoto, Japanese Olympic Committee President Yasuhiro Yamashita and Kazuyuki Mori, the president of the Japan Paralympic Committee, will attend. Matsuno said the three officials are attending at the invitation of the International Olympic and Paralympic Committees to represent the JOC and IPC. Asked if it’s a diplomatic boycott, Matsuno responded by saying: “We don’t use a particular term to describe how we attend.” Japan’s decision not to send a government delegation follows

a move by the United States and a few other democratic nations including Australia, Britain and Canada, which cited China’s human rights violations. Japan, as a US ally and considering its biggest trade partner is China, is in a difficult position and has

taken a softer approach than its western partners on human rights situations in China’s Xinjiang region and Hong Kong. Japan Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has made human rights a key part of his diplomacy and created a special advisory position.

Good governance is observed annually on December 25 After the rough patch due to the still-existing pandemic, we all are looking forward to Christmas which is one of the most celebrated times of the year. People around the world come together on 25 December and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the teachings of whom formed the foundation of Christianity Every year the believers of Christ celebrate the festival by attending special midnight mass at churches and exchanging gifts. Some visit their families, friends and indulge in memorable parties. The non-Christians too celebrate the day with the same fervour and religious zeal. The festival

brings peace and hopefulness among people. As per the Bible, Jesus Christ, the son of God, was born in a stable in Bethlehem to Mother Mary and Saint Joseph. The day is celebrated as the birth of Christ but it also has a deeper meaning. Jesus Christ was born at the time when greed, hatred, and ignorance prevailed upon the land. He spread the message of peace and gave a spiritual turn to the lives of people. The son of God sacrificed his life for the sins of humanity. The followers of Christianity believe that God had sent his son on land to redeem the people from their sins. The churches around the globe remember the sacrifice.
