Agency News: New Delhi Russia’s defence ministry Friday said its forces had captured the strategic Hostomel aerodrome, just 7 km (4 miles) northwest of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, and landed

paratroops in the area. More than 200 people were eliminated from the Ukraine special units in the operation, it added. The ministry claimed the Russian military had blocked access to Kyiv from the west, and separatist forces in east Ukraine had attacked Ukrainian

army positions with Russian army support. The Russian military said that it will not strike residential areas of Kyiv. Russian missiles pounded the capital and some other parts of the country as the Russian forces pressed their advance in the early hours of Friday, following which several families were rushed to shelters. Ram Mandir Only ‘One Of The Poll Issues’ As UP Voters Seek Development With 10 candidates in fray, the Ayodhya Assembly segment will go to vote in the fifth phase on February 27 Agency News: Ayodhya The Ram temple issue, which used to pivot elections not only Ayodhya but across the country, seems to have been relegated to “one of the poll issues” in Ayodhya this time as competing

parties are raking up development topics and also relying on caste arithmetic for victory. The BJP, is facing a challenge particularly from the Samajwadi Party (SP) in the ongoing state polls. With 10 candidates in fray, the Ayodhya Assembly segment will go to vote

in the fifth phase on February 27. After it became clear that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath would not contest from Ayodhya, the party reposed faith in sitting MLA Ved Prakash Gupta, while the SP has fielded former minister Tej

Narayan alias Pawan Pandey. The BSP, Congress and AAP have also put their nominees in fray in a bid to make the contest multicornered. “It is going to be a close contest in the Ayodhya Assembly constituency. As far as the issue of Ram temple is concerned, the BJP was not able to derive optimum mileage during this election initially. The issue started cropping up only after the third phase of the polls,” Mahant Raju Das of Hanumangarhi temple told PTI.

Energy Is A Strategic Weapon In Russia’s War Against Ukraine With the Russian invasion of Ukraine already playing out, it is clear that the war between USand allies on one side and Russia on the other would be fought not just at the military andeconomic levels, as already manifested by the western sanctions, but with another strategicweapon as well: energy. As a resurgent energy superpower, the Biden administration has enough clout to convincethe world, particularly in Europe, that the US could help blunt the impact of the one majorpain that nations could face in the event the oil and gas spigots are turned off or supply iscritically reduced.Given its newly acquired energy clout, the US may have to rely less on its oil- and gas-richallies in the Middle East to talk up their spare capacity to reassure markets and consumersof a quick fill-up in the gap, if such a situation ever arose. But the key question is how soonthe US is ready to step in to steady the supplies. From the macro point of view, oil markets are rattled by the war as Russia is the world’ssecond-largest crude oil producer after the US and the second-largest exporter after SaudiArabia. But according to analysts, the unease is even more so due to OPEC+ and itsinability to close the current supply gap.Crude markets are manifestly in short supply, with a deficit of around 1.5 million barrels perday (bpd) in January, as demand averaged 82.2 million bpd against supply of 80.7 millionbpd. This spread is set to widen to more than 2 million bpd over summer.Analysts are attributing this shortage to ‘engineering’ by Saudi Arabia, which is not ready tofully open the taps, despite the fact that the kingdom is sitting on 2 million bpd of sparecapacity, in coordination with other producers such as the UAE, which also has significantspare capacity. The gap obviously serves the producers as each barrel rings their cashchests with significant additional dollars.According to Rystad Energy research head Claudio Galimberti, the Ukraine war could put atrisk disruption of up to 700,000 bpd of Russian crude exports. The Southern Druzhbapipeline flows through Ukraine, accounting for 250,000 bpd of throughput, while the port ofNovorossiysk, capable of 460,000 bpd), is just off the east of Crimea and south of the Sea ofAzov, the epicenter of the war.The conflict could also trigger an increase in oil demand by raising the natural gas pricefurther and thus driving the switching from gas to oil in the power generation sector, as isalready being witnessed in some Asian countries, resulting in approximately 500,000 bpd ofadditional demand. According to analyst expectations, US producers would probably hit the pedal in full throttleonly next year, as production will increase from 11.7 million bpd to 12.6 million bpd byDecember this year. When this happens, it would release approximately 1 million bpd of oilby the end of 2023, leading to a patently oversupplied market. This in effect could mean thatthe price band could range between the upper $80s and the lower $90s.European gas prices have already surged, increasing back above $30 per MMBtu. This, paired with current storage inventories in Europe continuing to remain below the five-yearaverage, has resulted in significant global market uncertainty.European prices will skyrocket if Russian supplies are cut off and this could lead to adynamic switch from gas to all other energy sources – more hydro, biomass, coal, nuclearand liquids, points out Rystad’s gas market analyst Emily McClain. If Russian gas supply isupended, heightened uncertainty and concerns will push up US prices as well, though for alimited period as it is believed to have healthy storage inventories. She feels that Europe, however, will need a significant supply of incremental LNG as domestic production is alreadystrapped. With American LNG export facility utilization rates already maxed out, this is expected tocreate perfect conditions to see more US cargoes getting re-routed to Europe from Asia andother places. US exports make up nearly half of the total share into Europe, making it difficult to estimate how much more could be - Kapilkumar M. Hirpara rerouted and from where.

Agency News: New Delhi Raai Laxmi whose popularity spans from Tamil to Telugu and from Kannada to Malayalam cinema is making waves with her recently released music video, Majnu 2. Majnu 2 is a romantic yet peppy dance number that was dropped on Valentine’s week this month and has been sung by Bollywood’s singing sensation, Mika Singh. Though movies like Christian Brothers, Mankatha, Kanchana, etc. made her a popular household name in South India, her Hindi erotica, Julie 2, on the other hand, failed to woo the audiences and fell flat at the BO. While people are grooving on Majnu 2 and loving Raai’s performance in the music video caught up with the actress for an exclusive chat where she spoke about the music video, her career, her take on OTT and more. Excerpts: feel music videos are quite popular these days. The current generation is catching up with singles very quickly. It’s turned out to be a bigger market, the Punjabi ones have become a rage now. There’s a whole new perspective to the idea of doing singles now. Majnu 2 happened to me before Covid but Mika

couldn’t release it earlier, so he found the right space to release it on Valentine’s Day. Also, he is a friend and was planning a solo song for a long time but we ended up doing Majnu 2. Julie 2 didn’t work at the box office. Do you regret doing that film I don’t have regret but I have learned my lessons. I purposely gave a huge gap after that. When you sign a film and it doesn’t end up in your favour or it’s not been promoted the way it was promised, it is disheartening. It was projected in a different way. As an actor, it is not in our hands and have control over the marketing of the film. After Julie 2 was released, I already had projects lined up down south. In fact, it took a lot of my time and I couldn’t do many south projects. I thought I’ll do a women-centric film as my 50th film but it backfired. Julie 2 is credited as my film; I can’t run awaWas it a conscious decision to not do any Hindi film after Julie 2 tanked?I got several offers in Hindi too but I wanted people to forget me in Julie 2 which is why I choose not to do Hindi projects and shoot down south since it is my root and this is where I come from.
