State govt withdraws chargesheet against ex-IPS Rahul Sharma

Sunvilla News | Ahmedabad

The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), Ahmedabad bench, on Thursday asked the state government to give a time frame of its investigation if they are probing 33 departmental inquiries and six show-cause notices issued against whistle-blower retired IPS officer Rahul Sharma. The bench said it while disposing a connected petition moved by Sharma against a chargesheet for “misconduct” while in service. The bench’s order came after Government Pleader Manisha Lavkumar read out an affidavit filed by the government stating that it has withdrawn the chargesheet against Shar-

This charge-sheet is based on “misconduct” by Sharma for allowing a non-gazetted officer, a head clerk, sign on his behalf on one of his leave applications. This charge-sheet was filed a day before Sharma was denied promotion in 2013. Sharma, who now appears as party-in-per-

son, had challenged it before the CAT saying that this “misconduct” was a practice prevalent among the IPS officers for which no one has ever been penalized, including his then superior IPS officer Tirth Raj. Sharma, who was sidelined by the government since his deposition before the Nanavati Commission that probed the 2002 post-Godhra riots, took early retirement earlier this year.

The BJP today said that while Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje backed the immigration appeal of tainted cricket tycoon Lalit Modi, she did not testify in court on his behalf. A signed statement by her is not a legal document, her party said, adding that she sought confidentiality from UK officials because she feared political payback in India from the Congress, which was then in power at the Centre and in her home state. With those arguments, the BJP has made it clear that it will support Ms Raje, 62, against the opposition which has demanded her resignation or supporting a man wanted for financial crimes in India. “Did jid Chowk bazaar in old action scene, the sequence streets with locals and ju- she go and depose there (in the UK)? Delhi to get 205 dedicated lanes for emergencies

The Delhi government is all set to notify dedicated stretches in the city that will be reserved for emergency vehicles in case of a disaster. The stretches will be similar to the lanes that were reserved during the Commonwealth Games 2010 for athletes and officials. The decision has been taken to ensure ambulances and fire tenders do not get caught in traffic jams during any emergency or a disaster. To ensure people leave the disaster management lanes empty, a siren will be used to inform commuters. The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) will also carry out extensive awareness campaigns to ensure people are educated about these lanes. The scheme which is a joint effort of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority, transport department and the Delhi traffic police will come into force soon. According to Delhi government officials, there are a total of 205 lanes that will be reserved for emergency situations across the city. Confirming the move, Delhi transport minister Gopal Rai told HT: “We are in the process of issuing a notification and it will come into force soon.” To ensure people are able to identify these roads, they will Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg Press Enclave Road, Saket MB Road Extreme right lane of roads will be reserved for emergency situations Ring Road, AIIMS to Moolchand Savitri Cinema Road Ring Road (Mahatma Gandhi Marg) August Kranti Marg (Siri Fort) be painted blue with ‘disaster lanes’ written on them and signages will be put up too. Officials said that mock-drills too would be organised to ensure people are made aware of the system. “A one kilometre stretch would have four such markings to ensure people get to know about these lanes,” said a senior Delhi government official. To begin with the agencies will ensure people are made aware of the lanes and the benefit of reserving them for emergency vehicles during such situations. However, to ensure people follow this rule a fine will be imposed on vehicles if they enter the reserved lanes during any emergency situation, under the Motor Vehicles Act 1988. Transport department likely to notify these lanes. These lanes will be painted blue with disaster lanes written on them so that they are easily identifiable. According to senior Delhi government officials, roads that have been identified are near to fire stations, police stations, deputy commissioners office, SDM’s office and hospitals. It is not uncommon to see an emergency vehicle getting caught in a traffic snarl on Delhi’s roads. “Generally people don’t give way to ambulances and other emergency vehicles. It is not only the PCRs and ambulances that need space. Disaster can come in any form and sometimes when there is a building collapse, even equipment such as JCBs have to be travel from once place to another. Due to this precious time is also lost when ferrying the injured from one place to another,” a senior Delhi government official said. The Emergency was a conjuncture of different complexes. DAY Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra to Miss Tanakpur Haazir Ho review: This turn brothers for ‘Ram Lakhan’ remake! ‘comedy’ is boring and endlessly drags on Agency | Mumbai

We were the first ones to tell you that Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra might be Rohit Shetty and Karan Johar’s choices to play Ram Lakhan in the film’s remake scheduled to go on floors next year. And now, it’s final that the two have indeed been cast as brothers in the film. Varun will be essaying Lakhan, originally played by Anil Kapoor whereas Sidharth will be playing Jackie Shroff’s Ram in the remake. Coincidentally, Jackie had exclusively told dna that he wanted Sidharth to fill in his shoes because he thought he was perfect for the role. Seems Jackie’s wish has been heard. But Anil wanted Ranveer Singh to be cast as Lakhan and we guess, that ain’t happening as of now. What brought about the casting? KJo, of course! Karan has been

Agency | Mumbai instrumental in giving both Varun and Sid a big ticket Bollywood break and has also ensured that he keeps supporting them in whichever ways possible. While Sid is doing his third film - Brothers - under Karan’s banner, Varun too has signed on a third film - Shuddhi - with Dharma. If the casting falls in place, the Ram Lakhan remake will

be both Sidharth and Varun’s fourth film with the production house. It will also be second time that Varun and Rohit will be teaming up, after Dilwale which is scheduled to release during Christmas week this year. So are you ready to see the SOTY boys team up again? We surely cant wait. The barometric levels have just shot up!

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recently examined Sooraj Pancholi in the death case of Jiah Khan. The Bollywood actor who will make his Bollywood debut with Salman Khan’s Hero is likely to be summoned for examination soon. In May, the CBI questioned the actor’s father Aditya Pancholi and following that, carried search at their residence. a common refrain of the film, too; its attempts at being a comedy are strained, because that end is often reached by compromising common sense, a logical story and convincing characters. So early in the film, we know that Arjun is having an affair with Pradhan’s wife, Maya (Hrishita Bhatt), but instead of meeting secretly to avoid her husband’s wrath, they roam freely together, quite literally, in broad daylight, like two teenagers recently hit by puberty. The two of them are caught, and an extended sequence is forced out of this plot point.

So, we have kept old Mughal style Angarkha and Maharasthrian style Navwari saris as it’s a story about the Maratha Peshwas”. Bajirao Mastani is a historical romance film which is being directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Don’t discount the importance of good beginnings. The first 20 minutes of Miss Tanakpur Haazir Ho is anything but a model of clarity. The following happens in that period: Pradhan (Annu Kapoor), an influential Khap Panchayat member, searches for his missing wife, in a village fair, who’s secretly gone to meet her lover, Arjun (Rahul Bagga); the same fair’s also hosting a beauty pageant for, erm, buffaloes; Arjun and his friends bump into Pandit Ravi Kishanas Bheema

(Sanjay Mishra), a cross between a priest and a quack, who is trying to convince the onlookers that the teenage girl sitting decked up on stage is an avatar of almighty. Pradhan then goes to the same charlatan later in the night to find a cure for his impotency; in between, there’s also a scene featuring a shopkeeper selling bras to women, who don’t know their bra size, by hesitantly looking at their breasts. These disconnected scenes share one common characteristic, though: they try hard to be funny. And this is

Dhoni’s under pressure to Kohli’s gone missing: Takeaways for India from series against Bangladesh

SPORTS ROUNDUP

Agency | Mirpur

India’s tour of Bangladesh came to an end as Mashrafe Mortaza lifted the ODI series trophy in front of the joyous Dhaka crowd on Wednesday. The past few months have been a dream for these fans and the players with the World Cup quarter-final appearance and a dominating series win over Pakistan. This tremendous performance against India is the icing on the cake, arguably. So what did we learn about this Indian team from

this series? Amidst the myriad issues that surfaced during this series – like Dhoni’s captaincy, Ravindra Jadeja and Ajinkya Rahane’s place in the team, India’s fast bowling etc – the Indian vice-captain’s barren run has flown under the radar somewhat. After the century against Pakistan in Adelaide, he is yet to register a score of 50-plus in 10 matches, averaging a shade above 30 for his 247 runs. For a man who has set lofty standards for the last few years, those

are staggering numbers. But forget the numbers for a moment. The three dismissals in this series tell their own story. The first match saw him play at a ball on

the sixth stump outside off, with feet not going anywhere and eyes seeing the cover boundary and not the ball. He was beaten by a harmless straighter one from a

part-time off-spinner who mostly just bowls straighter ones, to get trapped leg-before in the 2nd ODI. The last match saw him play the ugliest of slogs to a well-flighted Shakib al Hasan delivery. All three dismissals were the mark of a man short on confidence – and that is something you would never associate with Kohli. Leaving aside all that, a long, tiring season is no excuse to rock on the back-foot and nudge the ball to the point fielder off a FREE HIT.

India made an impressive comeback post defeating Poland by 3-1 as they produced a rampant display of stick skills to claim their first win in Pool B of the tournament. The Indian girls started their campaign on a disappointing note

by losing a hard fought match against Belgium 0-1. According to a source in the board, the PCB has written to the ICC to carry out a bowling assessment of Hafeez as soon as possible. If he fails the ICC test he can be banned from bowling for 12-months. “The PCB is concerned with the situation with Hafeez and wants the test to be held as soon as possible in Chennai. Because they want a clear picture

of where he stands,” the source said. He said internally the PCB hierarchy or the national team management were not very hopeful that Hafeez’s bowling action will be cleared in the latest ICC bowling assessment test. “It seems Hafeez will have to focus on his batting a lot more in the coming months to remain in the national team,” the source said. Lioness strays into temple, Gujarat pharma companies attacks two; rescued in Gujarat focus on OTC herbal products Correspondent | Vadodara

An Asiatic lioness, which strayed into a Shiva temple in rain-ravaged Amreli district and attacked two women devotees, was rescued and released into the jungle after a 15-hourlong operation by forest officials. The incident took place yesterday in Ingrola village when the local women reached the temple to offer prayers and spotted the lioness inside, M R Gurjar, Deputy Conservator of forest, Amreli division. As soon as the two women entered the temple, the lioness attacked them, leaving the duo injured following which they were admitted to a nearby hospital, the official said. Gurjar said the lioness might have taken shelter inside the temple due to inundation and rising water levels in the Shetrunji river nearby, owing to heavy and incessant rains resulting in a flood-like situation there.

Many prides of lions are usually seen lazing on the banks of the river, said Gurjar. According to him, the animal was rescued after a 15-hourlong operation by a team of forest officials in the wake of torrential rains lashing the area making it difficult to mobilise men

and material for such an operation. Roads leading to the temple were completely submerged after the district received 22 inches of rainfall, he said. However, around 1.30 AM today, forest officials overpowered the lioness and tranquilised it, ending the operation, Gurjar said.
