All India-Pakistan issues bilateral, don’t want to give pain to any third country: PM Modi tells Trump "All issues between India and Pakistan bilateral. Don't want to give pain to any third country. We can discuss and resolve all issues bilaterally," PM Modi told Trump on the sidelines of the G-7 Summit in the French town of Biarritz. AG. GNS_New Delhi :In their first meeting after the government scrapped special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 leading to tensions with Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi told US President Donald Trump that all issues between India and Pakistan were bilateral and there was no scope for any third-party mediation. “All issues between India and Pakistan bilateral. Don’t want to give pain to any third country. We can discuss and resolve all issues bilaterally,” PM Modi told Trump on the sidelines of the G-7 Summit in the French town of Biarritz. c PM Modi’s remarks come after Trump — thrice in the space of a month — had said he would do his best to “mediate” on the Kashmir issue. However, the US has nuanced its position in the past week, calling the issue of Jammu and Kashmir an “internal matter” of India — something that New

Delhi has always insisted on. “India and Pakistan were together before 1947 and I am confident that we can discuss our problems and solve them together. India and Pakistan should work together for the welfare of people of our two nations,” PM Modi told reporters. peaking to reporters following their meeting,

Trump said PM Modi had assured him that the Kashmir situation was under control. “US very good friends with both India and Pakistan. Think India and Pakistan can discuss among themselves and sort it out mutually,” Trump said.Trump’s statement comes after the US had said that it was concerned about

GNS Chennai: Twenty-eight people have been arrested after clashes broke out between two caste groups in Vedaranyam town in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu on Sunday and a statue of BR Ambedkar was vandalised. The statue has been replaced by a new bronze one.According to police, an SUV belonging to one Pandian, of a local dominant caste, ran over one Ramachandran, belonging to the Dalit community, near the Vedaranyam bus stand around 5 pm on Sunday. As a crowd began to gather, Pandian fled

reports of detentions in Kashmir, and urged respect for individual rights and discussions with those in affected communities. Taking a different tone from his previous offers to serve as a mediator, Trump said, “They speak with Pakistan and I am sure that they will be able to do something that will be very good.” On August 2, hours after Trump said he would “certainly intervene” on the Kashmir issue if New Delhi and Islamabad wanted him to, India had rejected the suggestion. Significantly, Trump did not reiterate a previous claim that Modi had asked him to intervene, in what was perceived as back-pedalling from his claim last month. Recently, in a telephonic conversation with Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, Trump asked him to tone down the rhetoric against India and avoid escalating tensions over the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

A shishya’s tribute to Arun Jaitley Ever since Saturday noon, when I got the phone call which despite his prolonged and brave battle with illness, I didn’t think I’d ever get I’ve been reflecting on what Arun ji and I had in common. No amount of introspection has led me to any answers. Yet, if mentorship is the hallmark of a political career, I’ve had the best. Did I have a role in the selection of the mentor? None at all, and that is where the role of Providence is. I come from the country’s south, sometimes distant in its connect and preoccupations with the political culture of the north. “Are you a ‘TamBram’ from Mylapore,” he’d asked me on more than one occasion, even after a few years of my having worked closely with him. It was a genuine query that, at times, gave way to light-hearted ribbing at a stereotypical contrast in our sensibilities. I was, and to a large extent, still am, an alien to Delhi’s social circuit, with whom he shared a wonderful rapport, given the gregarious entertainer and raconteur that he was. I’m not a lawyer either, to a lot of whom he was a generous senior, apart from being a role model, given his undeniable legal acumen. I hardly knew any leader of “stature” in Delhi’s political world when I first came to the capital, as a national spokesperson in 2010 But his shishya I became, without doubt.Once in my early days in the party, I prepared a version of a political resolution only to have him send it back to me, saying that the party needed a draft resolution and “not a term paper”. We were too close to the deadline already, but despite the pressures of time, somehow, Arun ji knew how to extract the best from me. Given his legal training perhaps, he was a brilliant speed-reader, with a complete hold over comprehension. If I laboured a point he’d already grasped, his sense of impatience was palpable. But Arun ji would never stop me or a few others like me, for that matter from finishing our piece. We’ve also disagreed on matters, but he never gave me the feeling that he contradicted me. Even at his most candid, his clarity of thought and manner of delivery were wedded together so seamlessly that he made sure you didn’t take his disagreement personally.

The

downer is the science bits, clearly crafted for dummies. And it doesn’t help that the computer-graphics feel a tad tacky: after years of watching stunning space visuals in Hollywood films, the scenes here seem sub-par. But the clunkiness sort of fits too: our early space agers, Vikram Sarabhai and Abdul Kalam carried their instruments on the back of bullock-carts.” She added, “Too much polish would maybe have been out of place, especially when you have a top-flight scientist conjure up the winning idea .

In the Swiss city of Basel, Sindhu brushed aside Okuhara 21-7, 21-7 in 38 minutes, displaying jawdropping control and killer instinct to make it the kind of one-sided contest that is rarely seen at badminton’s top level. Sindhu’s aggression and constant switch between tosses, net drops and crosscourt smashes left Okuhara a bundle of nerves and errors. She sealed victory with a shot down the line that drew one last backhand error, and threw up her hands in triumph. She ran to coaches Pullela

Mumbai : For Indian cricket fans growing up in the 1990s, it was a painful sight whenever the ‘express men’ from across the border lit up the world of cricket with their pace and verve. The likes of Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Aaqib Javed and later Shoaib Akhtar ignited raw passion among fans with their cannon-ball performances, often enriching the

tapestry of international cricket. While these men hunted batsmen down, several of them Indians, the fans on this side of the border were left wondering

why India can’t produce pacers like Pakistan does. The answer lay in focus and legacy. For long Indian cricket had worshipped batsmen and looked

up to spinners as saviours. Apart from the lone wolf, that Kapil Dev was, India had failed to create a conducive environment for fast bowlers to grow and prosper. Most youngsters who wanted to hone their ‘express’ skills were left frustrated and eventually balked at the idea of bowling fast as the surfaces in domestic cricket meant they were destined for toil and nothing else. But with India looking to win matches outside the sub-continent, pace became an agenda at the start of the century. The likes of Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, Sreesanth, RP Singh and Irfan Pathan started a revolution of sorts under the patronage of captain Sourav Ganguly as India looked to beat the best with pace.w
