Rich should give up their LPG subsidy :Modi The 2.8 lakh LPG consumers who had voluntarily given up their subsidy, the government saved Rs 100 crore Agency : NEW DELHI Of the 2.8 lakh LPG consumers who had voluntarily given up their subsidy, the government saved Rs 100 crore. Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to the well-heeled to come forward to give up their subsidised cooking gas so that the benefit be passed on to other welfare schemes. "I had made a small mention about giving up LPG subsidy. As many as 2.80 lakh people has responded positively...and

this will lead to a saving of at least Rs 100 crore. This Rs 100 crore can be utilised for the welfare of poor", Modi said during a function here. The government said since it started the new scheme of direct benefit transfer (DBT) for cooking gas, several persons opted out of the subsidy scheme. The DBT form submitted to individual gas agencies has a column where a consumer can opt out of the subsidy scheme. The Prime Minister said the

Union Government aims to extend piped natural gas (PNG) to one crore houses over the next five years. Modi called for enhancing domestic production to reduce the energy import burden of the

country by at least 10 percent (from current 77 percent dependence on energy imports), till 2022 – the

LPG cylinder: Jaitley for differential subsidy regime

Agency : NEW DELHI An immigration assistant at Indira Gandhi International Airport here has been suspended after a lady passenger from Bengaluru approached the Bureau of Immigration alleging that he had sexually harassed her by posing vulgar questions to her. "Immigration assistant Vinod Kumar has been placed under suspension and departmental disciplinary proceedings initiated against him," a home ministry statement said on Friday. The ministry has

Agency : NEW DELHI The Government may end subsidy on domestic cooking gas (LPG) for the affluent section of the society, Finance MinisterArun Jaitley has indicated. “At some time, India will have to take a decision to distinguish between those who can afford to pay and those who cannot afford to pay. And those who cannot afford to pay must get the benefit of States’ support,” Jaitley said during the session on ‘Global Energy Scenario-India Perspective’ at the energy summit here on Friday. Also, under consideration are options such as not giving subsidised LPG cylinder for people who pay higher

income tax. Taking a dig on his fellow Parliamentarians, Jaitley said, “I have repeatedly asked my colleagues in Parliament on whether they and I deserve to have subsidies transferred to our bank accounts and not one has been able to stand up and answer in the affirmative.” He hoped that by distinguishing between those who can afford and those who cannot, the country can save some resources which can be used for promoting exploration, and refining which in turn will help in moving towards greater dependence on domestic energy means. “Then our surplus resource is spent on

subsidising the weaker section of the society who deserves this support rather than on supporting the affluent which can never be the object of any rationalised subsidy itself,” he said. Volatility in crude price Jaitley also hoped that volatility in oil prices will settle soon. After keeping low for some time, oil prices are again on the boil due to Saudi Arab-led coalition strikes on rebels in Yemen and rising tension in the oil producing region.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a statesman politician and an orator par excellence Agency : New Delhi Former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was on Friday conferred with the Bharat Ratna, the nation's highest civilian honour, by President Pranab Mukherjee at a brief ceremony at his home. Often described as the moderate face of BJP, charismatic Vajpayee is an iconic leader whose acceptability across the political spectrum broke barriers pitchforking the saffron party to centre stage of politics in the late 90s. An orator par excellence and known for taking bold initiatives, notable being the attempt to bridge differences in Indo-Pak relations, Vajpayee, who is lauded as a statesman politician, went far beyond his BJP's nationalist political agenda. It was Vajpayee's sway that brought in 1998 new allies to BJP, once considered a virtual

untouchable in view of its rightist leanings, especially after demolition of Babri Masjid in 1992. His detractors used to call him a "mask" of the RSS, his benign smile of moderation hiding his party's links with Hindu groups. Undeterred by party hawks who accused him of embarking on a misdirected visit to Pakistan in 1999, Vajpayee, who is India's longest serving prime minister outside Congress party, rode triumphantly into Lahore aboard a bus, on an initiative that was pursued by his successor Manmohan Singh. Vajpayee's diplomatic

breakthrough was hailed as the dawn of a new era in Indo-Pak relations. But it was another story that Pakistan army undertook a covert operation to send its troops into Kargil that led to a limited conflict that Pakistan lost. Vajpayee first became Prime Minister in 1996 after four decades in opposition. He lasted only 13 days as Prime Minister for lack of numbers. The lack of a stable majority ended his second stint in power from 1998 after 13 months. His government collapsed after AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa withdrew her support from the coalition.

occasion of the platinum jubilee of India`s independence. “If we become successful in reducing import by 10 per cent in 2022, by achieving 10 per cent growth in domestic production, then I can assure you that by 2030 we can reduce this import to 50 per cent," Prime Minister added. He said India, with one-sixth of the world`s population,

should shoulder one-sixth of the world`s energy responsibility, hence contributing to global prosperity. India spent Rs 189,238 crore on import of crude oil in 2013-14. Currently, LPG is available at Rs 708.50 per 14.2-kg cylinder. Last year, government's subsidy bill on fuel was Rs 46,458 crore. Referring to the PSUs

ONGC Videsh Ltd, Engineers India Ltd and Barauni Refinery, for their successful journey of five decades, PM called upon India`s energy sector companies to become multinational; work towards India-Middle East, IndiaCentralAsia, and India-South Asia energy corridors; and establish gas positions in North America and Africa.

IGI official suspended for 'harassing' woman also advised the 37-yearold woman, who was travelling from Bangalore to Hong Kong via Delhi when she was allegedly harassed by the Kumar, to register an FIR against him. According to the complaint filed by the victim's father-in-law with the Bureau of Immigration, which comes under the foreigners division of the home ministry, she was subjected to a volley of offensive and inappropriate queries by Kumar after landing at IGI Airport on March 18. The officer, apart

from asking her if she smokes or drinks, wanted to know if she "had fun with other men" when her husband was not around. "Do you sleep with other men when your husband is at work?" he asked the lady. He allegedly also posed personal questions, including how many children she had and whether she left them with parents to "have fun" with other men. "The allegations made by the lady are extremely serious. The home ministry has directed the immigration authorities

to take strictest possible action if they are found to be true," said a home ministry officer. The complaint from the lady's father-in-law also accused the immigration officer of making sexual advances at her. "Would you like to have a third child with me because my wife doesn't want another child...will you have fun with me?," he asked the "horrified" victim. Worse still, he is alleged to have repeatedly asked her if she had had surgery for birth control.

The Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader, Satyadev Katare, had on Wednesday announced a relay hunger strike by the Congress MLAs and names of seven MLAs who would observe fast on the first day were also announced. However, on Thursday morning, Katare said that all the Congress MLAs were on hunger strike. Katare was on hunger strike too but said if doctors advised him to give up fasting, he would stick to their advice. Katare had slipped in the lobby of the House on Wednesday night

and sustained injuries on his head. He has not been in best of his health for the past few months. Home minister Babulal Gaur visited the Congress MLAs in the assembly in the morning. On his return, Gaur said that he had gone to see Katare and he advised him to keep his health in mind while carrying out agitation. Tuesday after a one-day special session convened to pass the second supplementary budget for the current fiscal. During the session, a special debate on conditions prevalent in the state following unseasonal rain and hailstorm was also taken up but Congress MLAs were not satisfied with chief minister's reply. They charged the chief minister with not making any concrete promises to the farming community in his reply. The dharna inside the House has continued since. Some Congress workers were present outside the state assembly to express solidarity with the agitating MLAs of the party. State Congress chief Arun Yadav was also spotted among them in the morning.

Movie review: ‘Barkhaa’ – Mothballed plot and an even more mothballed treatment

Hindi movie Yahaan Sabki Lagi Hai Review, Rating & Collections

Agency : New Delhi ‘Yahaan Sabki Lagi Hai’ is a Hindi film which will be released tomorrow, on 27 March. It is an allegory on the journey of life, especially at times when one feels victimized or shortchanged, set in the milieu of IndianEnglish-speaking urban

youth. The film is a comedy at heart, but it also has a melancholic after-taste, bordering on the philosophical, provoking thought about our times and condition. The movie is all about a road trip that is made for facing truth of the life.

Who got the first glimpse of Katrina Kaif’s wax statue at Madame Tussauds?

has already got the first glimpse of her wax statue and no, its not Salman or Ranbir! Katrina’s sisters are the first ones’ to catch a glimpse of the much anticipated wax statue. Yes, that’s right! How sweet, isn’t it?

Shruti Hassan gives up Nag-Karthi's next Agency : Mumbai Even before the regular shoot of Vamsi Paidipally's next with Nagarjuna and Karthi has exactly commenced in full flow, we hear that the lead actress of the film, Shruti Hassan has opted out citing date issues. With 3 films in Hindi, 2 in Tamil in addition to one with Mahesh Babu in Telugu, her attempt to juggle time for this Prasad V Potluri production hasn't apparently worked out. Tamannaah, in fact, was the first choice of the makers for the part. A rehashed version of the French film, The Intouchables, we hear, the producers are yet to make this news official. Shruti will meanwhile be seen in the Hindi remake of Tagore titled Gabbar is Back, for which she has lent her voice as well. The trailer of the Krish directorial, however was barely a good match to

the Telugu and Tamil versions of the film by any standards. The film also

featuring Akshay Kumar and Suman is set for a release on May 1.

Hit and run case: Wasn't driving, wasn't drunk, Salman Khan tells Court

CAST : Sara Loren, Taaha Shah, Priyanshu Chatterjee, Puneet Issar Director : Shadaab Mirza Agency : New Delhi There was a kind of film made in the 50s and 60s which had the leading man visit a hill station only to fallin-love-at-first-glance with a ‘goriyaa’. The leading man was usually accompanied by a friend who was also the comic relief, very useful in a film which would soon turn on the waterworks and maudlin violins and loud melodrama, because the ‘goriyaa’ would turn out to

be an unsuitable girl, not ‘laayak’ for the ‘khandaan’. There would be much ‘rona dhona’ after a bit of ‘naach gaana’, dialogues involving a quivering- lipped maa and a thunderous baap, and many relatives playing poison ivy. I have news for you. In 2015, we are still making that film. The big question, of course, is why, to which I have found no answers. Barkhaa (Sara Loren) plays a bar-dancer with a back-story, which

includes a cad (Priyanshu Chatterjee) who promises her the moon, and, of course, drops her when he has had his wicked way with her. Current ‘majnu’ (Taaha Shah) moons about trying to convince her of his noble intentions, and we keep waiting for the time when the father (Puneet Issar) comes on all heavy, and the mother starts beating her chest. ‘Yeh pyaar nahin, nadaani hai’, she wails.

I can't wait to direct Anushka and Aishwarya as these are the two girls I haven't worked with at all, I’m very excited”, Karan said. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is reportedly an urban story dealing with modern relationship and issues around it. The film will go to the floors in a couple of months. Also speaking about the recently

announced ‘Kapoor and Sons’, the filmmaker said, it’s a very stylish film starring Fawad Khan, Sidharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt. “There is a triangular love interest in the film. Barring Fawad and Sidharth who play brothers, nobody else is related to them.

Agency : Mumbai Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, who is an accused in the hit-and-run case on Friday deposed in a sessions court and said that he was not driving the car at the time of mishap on September 28, 2002. In his statement, Salman told court that his

driver Ashok Singh was driving the car and he had not consumed liquor on the day of mishap. It was a crucial test for the 49-yearold actor as he got an opportunity to give his version about the mishap, when his car ran over people sleeping on pavement outside a bakery in suburban Bandra here. Judge DW Deshpande had summoned Khan to appear on Friday to give his statement under section 313 of CrPc which comes at the fag end of the trial after the prosecution closed its evidence by examining more

than 25 witnesses in court. This is a fresh trial being held in a sessions court after a Magistrate added the charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder which lays down punishment upto ten years. The prosecution has alleged that the actor was under the influence of liquor and examined witnesses to prove that before the mishap he had gone along with his friends to a bar in a seven star hotel in the late hours on the ill-fated day. It has alleged that he did not have a driving licence.

When Aamir Khan publically apologised to Kamal Haasan Agency : New Delhi Actor Aamir Khan feels ashamed of not supporting Tamil stalwart Kamal Haasan during Vishwaroopam controversy in 2013, and publically apologised to him. At the FICCI Frames 2015 a, Aamir Khan apologised to veteran actor Kamal Haasan saying, "I take this opportunity to apologise to you, Mr Kamal Haasan, for not standing by you when your film was banned in 2013. I was so lost in work and I didn't realise it at that time. But I think we all filmmakers should stand by each other in such cases and I should have supported you during those trying times." Vishwaroopam faced ire of religious groups after they felt the film depicted

Muslims in bad light. Islamic groups in Tamil Nadu even asked for a ban on the film, even though it had been cleared by the Censor Board. The film could not be screened in state as the then government supported the ban. The film could not be released in certain other regions and a few foreign markets causing huge

losses to him. "I am totally against banning any kind of material. When the I&B minister spoke to us, he also clarified that actually the ministry has no such list of cuss words. It's a certification board and not the censor board. It was nice to hear that," Aamir said. at Ficci-Frames, an annual jamboree of media and entertainment industry.

3 / Dt. 28-03-2015, Saturday Trai may regulate Skype, WhatsApp

Agency : NEW DELHI Telecom regulator Trai Friday started the process to prepare regulatory framework for internetbased calling and messaging applications like Skype, Viber, WhatsApp and Google Talk, known as over-the-top (OTT) players. "Worldwide, there is an ongoing debate among governments, industry and consumers regarding regulations of OTT services and net-neutrality. In this background, Trai today released a consultation paper on regulatory framework for OTT services," Trai secretary Sudhir Gupta said in a statement. At present, consumers get to make phone calls and send messages using internet connection through mobile applications and their computers. They are required to pay only internet bandwidth consumed but nothing on per call or message basis. Telecom operators and VoIP service

providers or OTT players have been at loggerheads over this issue. Telecom operators have said that OTT players like Skype, WhatsApp, Viber etc are eating up their main revenue without investing in networks. On the other hand, OTT players defend themselves by demanding access to internet or webbased services without hurdle for growth of communities and nations. Trai chairman Rahul Khullar had earlier indicated about starting the process to frame regulation on OTT services after Airtel earned huge criticism from public for its plan to charge separately for VoIP calls, against principles of net-neutrality. Under the net-neutrality principle, telecom and internet companies should treat all web-based services equally and there should be no differential pricing or any kind of barrier that discourages people from accessing services.

I-League: Unbeaten Mohun Bagan take on struggling East Bengal in Kolkata derby Agency : Kolkata Unbeaten Mohun Bagan will be bolstered by the return of ace forward Sony Norde when they take on a struggling East Bengal in a high voltage I-League derby at the Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan here tomorrow. Having served a one-match suspension, the Haitian striker will be back to assist Katsumi Yusa and Pierre Boya, making it a terrific threesome attack against a team whose defensive woes has been the story of the season so far. East Bengal's dodgy defense cost them Federation Cup and the aftermath saw the exit of highly successful Goan coach Armando Colaco. As Eelco Schattorie looks forward to his first derby outing, the Dutchman would be doubly cautious for sure and it remains to be seen how the likes of Robert Lalthlamuana, Milan Susak,

The participants were not taking antiretroviral therapy (ART) to control their HIV at the time of the study. Through analysis of cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) and blood samples, 20 percent of the participants showed replication in the central nervous system (CNS) at four months. Additionally, 30 percent of participants showed evidence of a marked CSF inflammatory response in at least one time point and 16 percent of study volunteers showed a marked CSF inflammatory response at multiple time points, suggesting an ongoing infection in the CNS.

Our pacers should play less domestic games to avoid burn out: Dhoni

Arnab Mondal and captain Harmanjyot Singh Khabra rise to the challenge. As far as the East Bengal attack is concerned, Ranti Martins lead the charts with 12 goals, something that also show the team's over dependence on the Nigerian in the attack which also has Dudu Omagbemi. To the delight of Mohun Bagan fans, their reliable central defender Bello Rasaq may just recover from his twisted ankle in time as he had a light work out. Anwar Ali is likely to assist the Nigerian in central defense while

IndiGo heads towards $ 400 mn IPO as air travel booms

Agency : New Delhi India's biggest carrier, IndiGo, is preparing to file documents for a stock listing to raise USD 300 to USD 400 million, two sources with knowledge of the plans said, as it looks to cash in on a booming air travel market. IndiGo, owned by hospitality and travel company InterGlobe Enterprises, has remained profitable in the last two years, avoiding much of the

turbulence to hit rival Indian carriers. IndiGo has picked Citigroup, Kotak Investment Bank, Morgan Stanley and JP Morgan as lead managers for the listing, with UBS and Barclays also involved, the two sources said. Indigo will file its draft prospectus by the end of May, two sources said. The timing of the market debut itself, however, is not set, a separate source said, and will depend on market conditions.

Kinghshuk Debnath and Sukhen Dey may play in the right and left back positions respectively. East Bengal are yet to win since their 5-1 rout of Dempo as in the last match Sporting Clube de Goa stunningly scored back-toback goals to force a 2-2 draw as they occupy a poor fifth place with 13 points. Mohun Bagan (18 points), on the other hand, have been a revelation as they are the only to remain unbeaten and are one point clear of defending champions Bengaluru FC in the lead with two matches in hand.

Saina Nehwal storms into maiden India Open semifinal

Agency : New Delhi Saina Nehwal sailed past Indonesia's Hana Ramadhini to make her maiden semifinals at the India Open Super Series while giant-killer H S Prannoy and RMV Gurusaidutt went down fighting in the quarterfinals here on Friday. Olympic bronze medallist Saina defeated Hana 21-15 21-12 in the women's singles competition at the Siri Fort Sports Complex. Prannoy, who had sent the top seed

and world no 2 Jan Jorgensen of Denmark packing out of the tournament, conjured up hopes of another upset before falling short against world no. 6 Viktor Axelsen 21-16 9-21 18-21 in a 58minute contest. Commonwealth Games bronze medallist, Guru, had started the proceedings for India and despite playing a compact game initially, he too ran out of ideas to go down 21-15 18-21 13-21 to China's Xue Song. After

plotting an early exit for Jorgensen, Prannoy was up against yet another Dane. He used his backhand and powerful smashes to dominate the first game but Viktor came back strongly in the second and didn't allow the Indian to play his game. Prannoy faltered with his down the line smashes which went wide and long as the Dane roared back into the contest. In the decider, Prannoy committed too many unforced errors as Viktor took a 11-6 lead with a smash. The Dane faltered in the nets and also had a service fault which allowed the Indian to gather a few points. However, the Dane still managed a five-point lead reaching 19-14. Prannoy tried his bit and saved a few points but it was too late as Viktor closed out the match with a smash.

World Cup: BCCI and Dhoni’s men should be happy that Indians are angry Agency : Agartala In 2006, when India lost to South Africa in a series of one day matches, cricket fans in India went on a rampage. Mohammed Kaif’s house in Allahabad was attacked and the effigies of the players and Greg Chappell, the coach, were burnt in MS Dhoni’s hometown, Ranchi. Some members of Parliament wanted to move a privilege motion against Chappell for some remarks he made. A year later, when India lost to Bangladesh in its opening match in World Cup, Dhoni’s under-construction house was damaged. Protesters in Ranchi, who also burned his effigy, reportedly chanted “Dhoni die, die”. Last year, the target of attack was Yuvraj

HIV can spread to your brain in four months Agency : New Delhi In the absence of antiretroviral therapy, the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) that causes AIDS can begin replicating in the brain as early as four months after initial infection, a new research has found. The findings published in the journal PLoS Pathogens stress the importance of routine HIV testing to catch the infection as early as possible to allow the prompt initiation antiretroviral therapy. Singh’s house, when India lost to Sri Lanka in the T20 World Cup. On Thursday, the spectacle of angry protesters decrying the team was back on the streets yet again. This time, the person who attracted most of the national outrage was Virat Kohli, or more precisely his girl-friend Anushka Sharma. Fearing yet another mob fury, paramilitary forces were deployed at captain Dhoni’s residence, even as shaming of Anushka for

Virat’s failure and India’s downfall, continued unabated on social media. Elsewhere in the region, cricket-crazy Pakistanis went on a rampage smashing TV sets and conducting a mock trial of their national team after they went down to Australia in the quarter finals. This was preceded by even more vicious fan-fury on the streets when the team lost to West Indies a few days earlier.

Agency : Melbourne The biggest positive for the Indian cricket team in this World Cup has been the performance of its pacers and skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni feels that the trio of Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami and Mohit Sharma should not be forced to play domestic events to ensure that they don't burn out. Yadav (18 wickets), Shami (17 wickets) and Mohit (13 wickets) shared 48 out of the 72 wickets taken by the Indian bowlers (run-outs excluded) and have surprised one and all with their pace, bounce and control, hitting the right length on most of the

occasions. The only blip came in the semifinal clash againstAustralia which India lost by 95 runs yesterday in Sydney. An impressed India captain feels that this core group of bowlers should be nurtured by the BCCI with utmost care their respective state associations shouldn't pester them for playing in the Ranji Trophy. When he was asked as to how one would nurture and protect the current bunch, Dhoni cited some practical reasons that can hinder their progress. "This is a problem that we have had for quite some time now in our set up. Once a fast bowler completes international assignment

and goes back, he is then asked by his local state associations to come and bowl in domestic cricket. However there are no checks and balances on the number of overs they are being asked to bowl," a worried Dhoni stated. There are times when a Shami or an Umesh have been fervently requested and at times even ordered by their respective state associations, Bengal and Vidarbha to play in Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy or Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy. Dhoni strongly opposed this ploy of state associations creating pressure on a bowler or batsman.

NZ's WC showing has brought masses back to cricket: Allott

Agency : NEW DELHI Former New Zealand fast bowler Geoff Allott says the national team's performance in the World Cup has brought the "lost fans" back to the game, reinforcing cricket as the number one summer sport in the country. Co-hosts New Zealand have managed to attract the attention of masses like never before with their unbeaten run in the tournament and a victory in Sunday's final against Australia at MCG will further push its popularity in a rugby mad nation. "The atmosphere around New Zealand is unbelievable mate. Cricket in this country had its issues in the last 24 months but I think in the aggressive manner in which Brendon (McCullum) has led the side and the wonderful culture that has been developed in the side has really brought the public

back to cricket," Allott, who is now on the Board of New Zealand Cricket, said on Friday. The 43-year-old was at Eden Park when Grant Elliot smashed Dale Steyn for a six to finally send Black Caps into their maiden final after falling flat in the last four stage six times in the previous editions. "The atmosphere at the games have been electric and Eden Park especially was something special. Ranging from who's who of New Zealand to the general public, people can't stop talking about the semifinal win. "More importantly, our kids are all engrossed in the game. They are talking about the game and want to emulate their heroes. We even had members of All Blacks (the national rugby team) turning up for the semifinal. Basically, the people who were not talking about cricket are

now going to games. It (World Cup) could not have gone any better from the New Zealand point of view," said Allott. The once feared left-arm pacer, best known for being the joint leading wicket-taker in the 1999 edition, now can't wait for Sunday's final when New Zealand face the challenge of taking on the mighty Australia in their own backyard. "The four teams made the best semifinal and the best two teams are in the final now." Remind him about New Zealand not having played in Australia in the competition so far, Allott says adapting to MCG will be a challenge. "You raise a valid point that we have not played in Australian conditions but it is actually the preparation that makes the difference. These players have shown that they are not overawed by the occasion.

of Weather department, isolated places of Gujarat region and interior Saurashtra will witness light rainfall with thunderstorm on 29-30 March due to impact of western disturbances. Sarkar has predicted earlier two spells of unseasonal rains in recent past correctly. Frequent rounds of unseasonal rains prove dangerous for standing crops not just in Gujarat but across the nation. Unfortunately, this is one thing against which

government or anyone has no protection or remedy. In present calendar year, unseasonal rains were first experienced on 21 January followed by another spell on 1 March(continued for twothree days) and one more round on 12 March. Weather experts describe it as effect of ‘western disturbances’, which is one of two terminologies they often use. The other terminology they use on occasions is ‘Upper air cyclonic circulation’.

Hitesh, Raju, Ranchhod Bhardrwas and one unidentified person attacked him and snatched away his revolver. They also fired round from revolver. Kella said the attackers wanted money from him as he was constructing a housing scheme on his land. As Kella is locally influential, police is in action. Govt land is given to the highest bidder after inviting bids from interested persons : Gohil Sunvilla News, Gandhinagar

BJP government has given away precious land worth Rs 144.504 crore to a private company S E Transstadia at a throw away price flouting all government norms. Making this sensational disclosure, national spokesperson of Congress and its MLA Shaktisinh Gohil gave documentary evidence of how Cabinet flouted recommendations of Revenue and Finance Department to favour the private company set up just two years ago. Gohil pointed out that government land is given to the highest bidder after inviting bids from interested persons. However, in this case, government had MOU with the company on the conditions favouring the company and gave consent for land to the company measuring 4,02,294.88 Sq Ft in a highly developed and posh area. As per the norm, he said, the value of the land is decided by the Valuation

Photo by : Rudani Dixit Committee and it also decides lease rent. Accordingly, the Valuation Committee decided the rate of Rs 38,650 per Sq mt and consequently the plot of 37,388 Sq Mts was valued at Rs 144.504 Crore. To give this land on lease the government should have fixed annual rent of Rs 21. 67 crore on the basis of 15 per cent of the market price. This is clear from the notes of the Finance and Revenue Department Gohil said providing a copy of

notes to the media. Going against the recommendations of its own departments, BJP govt has indulged into great corruption by fixing a rent of Rs 1 per Sq Ft and giving land on a lease of 35 years on rent of Rs 4.02 lakh instead of annual rent of Rs 21. 67 Crore. This, he said, results in a loss of Rs 21. 67 Crore to exchequer per year which amounts to a staggering amount of more than Rs 750 Crore in 35 years.
