Five killed in road accident in UP’s Hardoi

Five people were killed and four injured in a collision between an autorickshaw and a car on the Lucknow-Hardoi Highway, police said on Tuesday. While the five victims died on the spot, the injured were rushed to a hospital where their condition is stated to be stable, they said. Both the vehicles were at speed when the accident occurred in the Dehat area, the police added. The bodies have been sent for postmortem and attempts are on to identify the victims.

The last date for linking PAN with Aadhaar is extended to June 30, 2023. The extension comes a few days before the current deadline was set to expire on March 31. The Ministry of Finance said, “In order to provide some more time to the taxpayers, the date for linking PAN and Aadhaar has been extended to 30th June, 2023, whereby persons can intimate their Aadhaar to the prescribed authority for AadhaarPAN linking without facing repercussions. Notification to this effect is being issued separately.”

Under the provisions of the Incometax Act, 1961 every person who has been allotted a PAN as on 1st July, 2017 and is eligible to obtain Aadhaar Number, is required to intimate his Aadhaar to the prescribed authority on or before 31st March, 2023.

EPFO fixes 8.15 per cent interest rate on employees’ provident fund for 2022-23

Retirement fund body EPFO on Tuesday marginally raised interest rate on employees’ provident fund (EPF) deposits to 8.15 per cent for 2022-23 for its over six crore subscribers. In March 2022, Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) had lowered the interest rate on EPF for 202122 to a four-decade low of 8.10 per cent for its subscribers, from 8.5 per cent in 2020-21. This was the lowest since 1977-78, when the EPF interest rate stood at 8 per cent. The apex decision making body of EPFO, Central Board Trustees (CBT) headed by Union Labour Minister Bhupender Yadav, recommended 8.15 per cent annual rate of interest to be credited on EPF accumulations in members’

At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened at 82.20 against the dollar, then climbed to 82.16, registering a rise of 15 paise over its previous close. On Monday, the rupee closed at 82.31 against the US currency. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, fell 0.25 per cent to 102.59. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark,

declined 0.42 per cent to USD 77.79 per barrel. “Indian Rupee is likely to trade higher for the last few days of the financial year on the back of year-end flows which is keeping the broader range of 81.80-82.50,” CR Forex Advisors MD Amit Pabari said. HDFC is set to raise Rs 57,000 core through the bond issue which could support the rupee in the near term, he said. In the domestic equity market, the 30-share BSE Sensex advanced 113.76 points or 0.20 per cent to 57,767.62 points. The broader NSE Nifty gained 24.05 points or 0.14 per cent to 17,009.75 points.
