The World Inequality Report 2022 termed India as a ‘poor and very unequal country’ that has an affluent elite population. Agency News: New Delhi

Deepika Padukone was a picture of elegance at the Time100 gala. PMs’ museum likely to open on April 14 The Pradhan Mantri Sangrahalaya (the Museum of Prime Ministers), being built at Delhi’s Teen Murti Estate, is set for a big-ticket inauguration. Sources say that if all goes well, the showpiece project will be inaugurated on April 14, to coincide with BR Ambedkar’s birth anniversary. The Rs 270-crore project was approved in 2018, with a completion deadline of October 2020, but faced repeated delays not only due to pandemic-related lockdowns, but also owing to civil works and content-curation issues. While it was ready late last year, sources say “some last-minute changes and finishing touches for the displays had to be carried out.

Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday termed the World Inequality Report ‘flawed’ and called its methodology ‘questionable’. The comments came in response to the World Inequality Report 2022, published by the Paris-based World Inequality Lab, which said India is a ‘poor and very

unequal country’ and ranked it in the bottom half of the list in terms of both income and wealth.“World Inequality Report terming India as ‘poor and very unequal country’ is flawed, based on questionable methodology,” Sitharaman said during a Rajya Sabha session. The report, released on December 7 last year, showed that while the bottom half of India’s population earned ₹53,610 on an average, the top 10 per cent earned 20 times higher, roughly ₹11,66,520. It also showed that the richest 10 per cent of the country owned 76 per cent of the total wealth, holding 57 per cent of the national income in 2021, while the share of the bottom 50 per cent went down to 13 per cent. The top one per cent held more than one-fifth of the total national income.

Halal food is ‘economic jehad’: BJP gen secy C T Ravi Agency News: New Delhi With some right-wing groups now giving a call to boycott ‘Halal’ meat, BJP national general secretary C T Ravi likened Halal food with ‘economic jehad’. For the past few days, there was a flurry of messages on social media appealing to Hindus to shun Halal meat, especially after Ugadi, which is the Hindu New Year festival. A day after Ugadi, a section of “non-vegetarian” Hindus offer meat to God and celebrate the New Year. Many offer such meat, which some right wing activists are asking

people to skip This call comes close on the heels of ban on Muslim vendors around temples during the Hindu religious fairs in parts of Karnataka. Halal is an economic Jehad. It means that it is used like a Jehad so that Muslims should not do business with others. It has been imposed. When they think that Halal meat should be used, what is wrong in saying that it should not be used?” Ravi told reporters here. He said the Halal meat offered to ‘their God’ is dear to them (Muslims) but for Hindus, it is somebody’s leftover. He also said that Halal has been designed.

Rooted in the RSS, Sawant rose through the ranks in the BJP and had also been its Yuva Morcha leader. After taking over as Goa’s 14th CM Monday, he said: “I am not an accidental CM. I am

Bjp-Shiv Sena Battle In Maharashtra Is Getting Dirty Every Passing Day There is talk of the “fear” on Uddhav Thackeray’s face. And that if anybody started the‘sliving’, it was the Sena’s partner Nationalist Congress Party. ‘Sliving’ is slang for somebody“slaying” as well as “living it high.” Using the analogy, the BJP-Shiv Sena ‘sliving’ hasreached a crossroads. The BJP has lost patience and so, it seems, has the Shiv Sena.Thackeray’s latest reaction to BJP’s arm-twisting tactics was textbook Corleone. Targetingfamily members is worse than breaking ‘omerta’. “You want me, let’s get face to face,”Uddhav Thackeray said, “Leave the family out of it.” Thackeray’s defiant words hit target. The comparison is now which of the two is the better street-fighter?And the consensus is, the BJP couldn’t have beaten Balasaheb Thackeray or even RajThackeray, but Uddhav Thackeray, well? The state of UT is somewhat doubtful. The feelingis that, but for the NCP’s Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray wouldn’t have dared think upMVA, much less join the alliance. It is this alliance glue which the BJP wants unstuck. And, as part of strategy, the ModiGovernment has been targeting the weakest links in the MVA, those most vulnerable tocorruption. Let’s not forget, the BJP has ruled Maharashtra and knows which party’sskeletons are buried where.Anil Deshmukh and Nawab Malik were sitting ducks. But when going after MVA ministersfailed to produce desired results, Uddhav Thackeray himself has become the target, especially after Thackeray joined hands with Hyderabad’s K Chandrashekar Rao andChennai’s MK Stalin to challenge Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself. The BJP and the Modi Government are now reconciled to Thackeray in the opposite camp. Why waste time and energy trying to wean away somebody newly hooked to something aspowerful as ‘office’, which his father Balasaheb Thackeray wouldn’t touch, for all the perksthat come with it, with a bargepole?Uddhav Thackeray also seems to have come to the conclusion that there is no going backnow. His “leave the family out of it” is not capitulation, it’s a rethink in strategy, even warning, and outright challenge. But, if it is that, why hasn’t UT unleashed the state and MumbaiPolice forces on BJP leaders who for all we know must also have skeletons buried here andthere? The Shiv Sena and the BJP were allies for 25 years, long enough for either of them to taketo heart “till death do us apart.” The BJP has been acting the jilted lover and, as we know,“hell hath no fury like an ally scorned!” The BJP is smarting. So much so, even “family” is longer sacrosanct, or protected, left out of the recriminations cycle. Unfortunately, for Uddhav Thackeray, his brother-in-law is not above the law and theEnforcement Directorate has put on freeze Rs 6.45 crore of his assets. Uddhav Thackeray’sbrother-in-law stands accused of money laundering, just like Anil Deshmukh and NawabMalik—the Enforcement Directorate is without an iota of imagination!Uddhav Thackeray calls such tactics “vicious things”. The imagery brings to mind cobrasand rattlers; pliers and tweezers. But he also said, “We never bothered your familymembers”, following it up with "it is not that we are saying that your families have donesomething wrong or that they have something that we can (use to) trouble you with.”Those who know politicians and politics will understand. Political parties can afford bands ofthe best of lawyers and no politician is “jailed”, he is “incarcerated”, which is different—VeerSavarkar was jailed, Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi were incarcerated.Thackeray’s words have meaning for the BJP. The Sena has started talking of taking to thestreets, like its cadres did “after the Bombay blasts”; also about what could happen if theBJP crossed a certain imaginary Lakshman Rekha. The BJP cannot complain because it isits “selective targeting of political opponents” that has brought things to such a pass. And, now that the selective targeting includes Uddhav’s brother-in-law Shridhar MadhavPatankar, the “family” Uddhav Thackeray was talking of, there is nothing left to talk about. InFebruary, Sena spokesman Sanjay Raut had charged the BJP with using centralinvestigative agencies to “try and topple” opposition-ruled governments. The fact of the matter is, politicians as a group do not automatically enjoin trust. They aren’tconsidered the best of our species. There is rarely one without blemish, and even those aresusceptible. Why is Shiv Sena panicking if family members of Sena leaders are innocent ofany wrongdoing? What politicians seem to forget is that people are watching. The MVA government goingafter “innocent citizens”, who criticized it on social media, marching them head in dark hoodto jail; Sena men blackening the - Kapilkumar M. Hirpara faces of citizens, threatening.

Central agencies are jolted to action just when elections are round the corner.”She said laws “bulldozed through” parliament during an opposition walkout enabled the Centre to extend the tenure of the ED and CBI chiefs.

He was speaking at an event for his upcoming film Attack when the journalist questioned the unrealistic action sequences in his films. The actor insisted that questions must only be asked about his upcoming film, Attack At a promotional event for Attack, John was asked, “Your films have an overdose of action. It looks good as long as you are fighting four or five people. But, it is too much when you are seen fighting 200 people all by yourself, throwing away bikes and stopping choppers with your hands.” John interrupted him to ask if the journalist was talking about Attack. When the journalist clarified that the question was about Satyameva Jayate, John replied, “I am sorry main toh Attack ki baat kar raha hu, agar aapko isse problem hai (I am talking about Attack. If you have problem with this), then I am sorry. I really offended you.” The journalist said that it made it difficult for the audience to relate. On behalf of everyone, I shall apologise for you, no problem, you’ll do better next time.” John also addressed the journalist as “uncle”. “If you ask the same ghisa-pita question like uncle, you’ll have a problem. You’ll have to ask the questions of today. Ask why is Attack special or unique. Ask questions related to this film,” he said.

Cost of construction up 10-12% Celebrating Women Leaders at 4th MSDE recognises INS Shivaji as the Centre of Excellence in Marine EngiYoY; surging cost likely to push Annual BW Disrupt WESA glass ceiling but brought about neering up real estate prices innovation through their pathOver the last one year, developers’ average cost of construction has risen 10-12%, owing to higher input cost due to supply-side constraints. This surge in cost comes at a time when developers have been under pressure due to higher debt and liquidity concerns over the last few years. The cost of key materials like cement and steel have risen over 20% yearly as of March 2022. These constitute a predominant share in the total cost of construction. So far, developers have been cautious about increasing prices as the market was recovering from the aftermath of Covid-19. However, developers have now started feeling the pinch of rising cost and started reviewing their pricing strategy. Costing for steel, cement, copper and aluminum is based on dealerlevel cost as per Colliers’ internal

costing framework; Overall values are exclusive of GST“With rising material cost, developers will be compelled to increase prices as construction materials account for about 2/3rd share in the total cost of construction. Developers have already been operating on thin margins over the last few years. The rising cost will impact developers in the affordable and mid-market segments relatively more as they are already operating on lower margins. With wholesale price inflation (WPI) and material cost, both seeing a double-digit rise, the cost of construction can rise by a further 8-9% by December 2022,” said Ramesh Nair, CEO, India & Managing Director, Market Development, Asia, Colliers. Residential projects in the affordable and mid-income segments carry relatively lower margins and are price sensitive.
