13, 22-20 quelling of the World No.5.The chinks in Sindhu’s armour existed only in Yamaguchi’s old notes from dossiers that needed dusting. For facing her in the quarters was a refined opponent, whose defense had more than just stubbornness. And whose attack came from the forecourt just as blithely as her blitz from the back. Sindhu has never shied from long rallies but she showed her scorn for their length. It was Ya m a g u c h i in fact who spent most of the match running around, a tad aimlessly. This was Sindhu

Tokyo Olympics: Sindhu, the 2016 Rio Olympics silver medallist, entered the semifinals with a win over Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi. knowing exactly what was needed to be done, and having the armoury to execute this heist to end Japan’s challenge. The strokes flowed naturally from Sindhu – the straight smashes to attack the high serve, the fiercer ones to pounce on Yamaguchi’s short lifts.Sindhu had the charging followup at the net to the set up smash, and overhead slice which she summoned at the crucial 21-

20 juncture in the second set In the opener, Yamaguchi relied excessively on trying to win the battle at the net, where she was seamless, but to her surprise, Sindhu was up for the challenge. Gujarat govt does U-turn; only 150 people allowed at weddings Two days back, Gujarat government had raised upper limit of guests at closed-venue events to 400 Sunvilla News: Gandhinagar The Gujarat government seems to have remembered that the Covid-19 pandemic is not yet over, something that health experts have been repeating frequently. Two days after raising the upper limit of guests allowed at functions, the state government announced fresh guidelines for large gatherings. Now, a maximum of 150 people will be allowed at marriage venues. On July 28, at a meeting of the core committee chaired by Chief

Minister Vijay Rupani, it had been decided that a maximum of 400 people, or 50 per cent of the venue capacity, would be allowed for closed-place

events. While this cap has been brought down to 150, religious and political gatherings can have up to 400 persons in attendance. This could be a lesson well-learnt from the past. The spike in Covid-19 cases during the second wave had been blamed largely on the election rallies earlier this year and lifting of Covid-related restrictions when cases started reducing. Besides raising the upper limit of guests, the state government had also announce relaxation of night curfew.

Mamata Banerjee’s Talks During Delhi Visit Have Formed The Basis Of Opposition Unity

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s talks in Delhi during her five day visit beginning July 26, have helped in a big way in facilitating the process of an understanding in principle that the Congress has to be a major partner in the proposed front of the anti-BJP opposition parties in order to ensure the defeat of the BJP led by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Lok Sabha elections in 2024. .Indications available suggest that in her meeting with the Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi on July 28, she emphasised that the Congress has a big responsibility in combating the BJP challenge in the coming assembly elections in 2022 and 2023 and through a better performance by rejuvenating the organisation, the Party will be able togenerate the right political climate for taking on the BJP in 2024 polls. Mamata has a definite political strategy for both the coming assembly polls as also the Lok Sabha elections. According to this, the main anti-BJP party in the state will have decisivepower in deciding on the electoral policyin consultations with the other parties which areinterested in being a part of the anti-BJP front. That way, excepting Uttar Pradesh, the Congress will be the main anti-BJP party in most of the states that are going for assembly polls in 2022.PrashantKishor, the poll strategist has already discussed with Sonia Gandhi in the presence of Rahul and Priyanka, the possible Congress strategy for the state elections and how it can coincide with the composite opposition gameplan. At the intuitive of Mamata, PK has already prepared a presentation on how maximum electoral understanding can be made possible between the Congress and the regional parties both for the assembly polls and finally in the Lok Sabha polls. The basic principle is that in states, the anti- BJP opposition parties may fight against each other taking into account the local political compulsions, but for Lok Sabha elections, maximum efforts will have to be given for total understanding of opposition parties against BJP taking into account an objective assessment of the strength of the contending opposition parties. Right now, the task of the opposition is to be battle ready for the assembly elections in five states by early 2022- Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa, Uttarakhand and Manipur. Only seven months are left for these polls.Elections to other two states Gujarat and Himachal will be taking place by the end of 2022. So, as of now, preparations by the opposition for the coming five states, especially Uttar Pradesh, is of crucial importance. Of these five states, the Congress is the major anti-BJP opposition party in four states,Punjab, UK, Goa and Manipur. In Punjab, the Congress is in a comfortable position. PKknows Punjab well since he worked in 2017 with the Chief Minister Amarinder Singh.Thistime the situation is far better as the BJP-Akali Dal alliance is not there and the farmersagitation has further dented the BJP base in the state. There is possibility of challenge byAAP in some seats, but that will not be a formidable one if the Congress party in Punjabfunctions unitedly with CM and the new PCC president Novjit Singh Sidhu collaborating. The real challenge for PK is to help Congress in getting back power in Uttarakhand, Manipurand Goa. In Manipur and Goa, the Congress emerged as the strongest party in last electionsbut the central leadership failed to intervene in proper time leading to BJP sponsoreddefections. This time, the Congress has to make all efforts both in Manipur and Goa to winthe polls by forming alliances with a few regional parties which are not aligned with BJP.Inboth these states, money power is important and the Congress has to organise funds tocompete with BJP.Right now, the ground situation is not comfortable for BJP in both thestates. Congress with strategic help from PK has to ensure that maximum mobilisation ismade in Goa and Manipur to defeat BJP.As regards Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party is the main party fighting BJP and the Partyis stitching up an alliance with the smaller parties including RLD to fight the BJP. TheCongress is not in its radar for alliance now and BSP has already announced that it will fightalone.PK’s expertise will be on real - Kapilkumar M. Hirpara test in UP if he is able.

Sonu Nigam on staying away from judging reality shows: ‘Nobody can tell me how to behave’ Sonu Nigam has Agency News: Mumbai Singer Sonu Nigam, who has earlier judged Indian Idol and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, has spoken about staying away from music reality shows. He said that nobody can tell him how to behave on the show. He said that he would judge a show if asked to. However, he also added if he would enjoy doing things that he didn’t want to do. Some time back, Indian Idol was embroiled in a controversy after singer Amit Kumar claimed that he was asked to praise Indian Idol 12 contestants when he appeared on the show as a special judge for an episode. Sonu had reacted to the development and had said that if contestants are always praised on reality shows then it is counterproductive. In an interview with The Indian Express, Sonu Nigam said that ‘today, his instincts don’t allow him to do such shows’. “I am a man of clear words. Nobody can tell me how to behave because we belong to that purest school of music and life. If I am asked to do it, I will do it. But will I really enjoy doing things that I don’t want to do on reality shows?” he also added. I’m judging a show in Bengal – Super Singer on Star Jalsa. I feel it’s a show of my interest. It has Kaushiki Chakraborty and Kumar Sanu, and a purist atmosphere. I feel comfortable there and hope they won’t ask me for such melodrama. If they do, we’ll see!” he added.
