Legalities and Documentation •
Getting married in Sicily involves the exact same legal requirements as Ireland.
Catholic Church Weddings
•
There is no legal set amount of days that you must be in Sicily before being able to marry although we do recommend that you are on the island at least 2-3 working days prior to your wedding.
•
Both the Bride and the Groom must have a Baptism Certificate.
•
Catholic couples who wish to have a church wedding are advised to inform the Priest of their local Parish of their intent to marry abroad. Your Parish Priest must send all relevant documentation to his Bishop who in turn must send this to the Catholic Church in Sicily at least two months prior to your Wedding Date. Your Wedding Co-ordinator will forward on the details and address of the Catholic Church in Sicily where all documentation is to be sent.
•
If either party has been previously divorced then your Wedding Co-ordinator is unable to arrange a Catholic Church Wedding in Sicily.
•
The Civil Ceremony will be in Italian with an English interpreter.
•
You will receive one copy of the Wedding Certificate in English.
•
A Marriage Certificate from Sicily is legally recognised in Ireland.
•
You will need two Witnesses for your Ceremony; if you have come to Sicily on your own then your Wedding Co-ordinator will gladly help you with this.
•
Your two witness passports’ are required to complete the legal paperwork.
•
Once the Wedding Co-ordinator receives a deposit we will register your names and date with the Town Hall and/or Church.
•
Your Wedding Co-ordinator will personally supervise the whole day of the wedding and will be there for you and your guests for the duration of your stay.
Irish Passport Holders must obtain, for BOTH the Bride and The Groom (one copy each), A ‘Freedom To Marry Certificate’ from the Department of Foreign Affairs in Ireland. Monte Tauro Hotel 4h Taormina The Monte Tauro is an extremely comfortable, well maintained. hotel in a good location. A glass lift descends to the large freshwater swimming pool with its expansive sunterraces, parasols and sun beds and the poolside bar juts out over the hillside. Suggested Wedding Venues Church of S.Andrea – The Cathedral of Amalfi Catholic wedding ceremonies take place in the marvellous Duomo of St.Andrew, the apostle whose remains are kept in the crypt.The Duomo is just inside the walls of Amalfi town and rises proudly at the end of steep steps that dominate the lively piazza where it is possible to admire a beautiful 18th century fountain.

This church was built by the most important noble families of Ravello.There is a preserved pulpit of the XII century, made by the artist Alfano from Termoli, which is based on round arches, finely ornate with mosaics and wonderful frescoes.
Church of S.Pantaleone – Ravello Dedicated to San Pantaleone this church was built in the XI century. The entrance doors are similar to those of Amalfi, made in Constantinople, in the XII century. Inside there is a museum, with numerous historic monuments.

Civil marriages take place in the Comune di Sorrento (Town Hall) and the Villa Fondi in Sorrento.They are also available in Positano, Amalfi, Ravello and the Isle of Capri.
Cloisters of San Francesco Sorrento In Sorrento it is not possible to have a religious ceremony.
Your wedding co-ordinator can arrange weddings in Positano, Amalfi and Ravello. You can choose from the following churches. Positano – the Santa Maria Assunta Church and Santo Rosario Church, Amalfi town – the Church of S. Andrea. Ravello – San Giovanni Del Toro Church and the Church of S.Pantaleone.
Santa Maria Assunta Church Positano The history of the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption is closely linked to the Benedictine monastery of St. Mary, which was built when a Byzantine icon of the Virgin was brought to Positano. The abbey allegedly dates back to the second half of the 10th century.
Santo Rosario Church Positano This church is situated in the centre of the town, in the "Piazza dei Mulini". It was an ancient Dominican monastery that was founded in 1614, but was closed in 1652. Both churches are for Catholic weddings only.
Civil weddings in Sorrento are held in the impressive cloister of St.Francis, an extraordinary example of architectural styles.This venue is located next to the panoramic gardens of Villa Comunale.The cloister of Sorrento is incredibly romantic especially during the summer season when weddings are performed in the open air surrounded by exotic plants and scented flowers. The venue can seat up to 30 guests.
Villa Fondi Sorrento Villa Fondi is a national monument, a valuable example of neo-classical architecture. Weddings can be celebrated in the open air, near the Ninfeo Romano, or in the Demetra hall.

Legalities and Documentation Catholic weddings are legal for any nationality in Spain. Generally as long as one of the couple is Catholic and neither is divorced then it is possible to have a Catholic wedding.The paperwork is started with your priest in your home country, sent to your Bishop, who sends it onto the Bishop in Malaga, who then sends it onto the Church where you are getting married.

Most areas require either the bride or groom to be a resident, however there are selected hotels, which have special arrangements with their local Town Hall, where nonresidents can get married. Due to the lengthy process involved in getting married in Spain many couples tend to go to Gibraltar to get married where it is much easier. The Church of Los Dolores was constructed in 1780 due to a promise made by the villages of Tinajo to the virgin of Los Dolores or, as she is popularly known, the virgin of the volcanoes, due to the fact that the lava flow that threatened to cover Tinajo stopped when she was brought out. For this reason, the festival is celebrated here to thank the virgin’s vocation in saving the village from the lava of the volcano.

Irish passport holders need to apply for permission to marry abroad from the Department of Foreign Affairs who will issue the relevant documentation.

Divorced persons cannot be married in a Roman Catholic church in Lanzarote. However, if the divorced person has a Church Annulment then they can marry in a Roman Catholic church.

If either the bride or groom are adopted an Adoption Certificate is required.

Suggested Wedding & Reception Venues Civil Ceremony Only civil weddings are conducted in Turkey and, while marriages can theoretically be conducted literally anywhere you choose, most couples elect to get married and have their reception in one of our featured properties where everything can be planned and organised to the last detail. The three hotels which comprise the Palmin Hotel Group each has considerable experience in hosting weddings for couples from Ireland and are particularly recommended as ideal venues. The hotels are very flexible as regards arrangements and menus. Live music and other extras are included as standard in all their wedding packages. The three hotels are all located in the well known and popular Ladies Beach area of Kusadasi and within easy walking distance of each other. It is quite common for couples and their guests to stay in one of the hotels and have their wedding ceremony and/or Reception in one of the others and there is no extra charge for this except for organised transport for guests, if required. Our wedding co-ordinator arranges weddings in Kusadasi in Turkey. Choose from the following venues.
The Palmin Sunset Plaza Hotel The hotel is situated on an elevated site directly overlooking the sea with idyllic seascape views of the nearby Greek island of Samos and Dilek National Park and is a truly picturesque wedding venue. The hotel boasts two magnificent full sea view terraces both of which are ideal for hosting a wedding
ceremony and reception. The upper terrace tends to be more popular with smaller wedding groups where wedding guests join with the other guests in the hotel for after dinner entertainment. The lower terrace is ideal for larger groups and is generally reserved exclusively for the wedding party. There is a large indoor restaurant at this level which is available to the wedding party but most choose to dine and dance on the outside terrace where the lights from the sea and the stars combine to illuminate this romantic setting. Even couples who get married elsewhere come to this hotel to have their most special sunset photos taken. There is a children’s playground adjacent to the lower terrace where the younger guests can amuse themselves while the adults are dancing.
Sea Pearl Hotel This hotel has a dedicated Wedding Garden and Restaurant which has hosted many Irish weddings over the years. It is a very picturesque area and the civil ceremony is usually conducted in the garden area with trees and other greenery as a background. The reception is held in the open air garden restaurant with its marbled tiled floor and artificial water fall and lagoon to lend atmosphere. The Wedding Garden and Restaurant are reserved exclusively on wedding days. Smaller wedding groups may choose to have the reception in the pool side restaurant where they can join other guests for after dinner entertainment. There is a children’s playground adjacent to the garden restaurant area where the younger guests can amuse themselves while the adults are dancing.
The Palmin Hotel This hotel tends to be more popular for smaller wedding parties.There are a number of suitable locations for a wedding ceremony and reception within the hotel but the most popular tends to be the outdoor Marco Polo Terrace Restaurant which overlooks the magnificent lagoon style swimming pool and provides an ideal backdrop when fully lit up at night. This Marco Polo Terrace can be reserved exclusively on wedding days. Receptions are also held in the pool level terrace where wedding guests join with the other guests in the hotel for after dinner entertainment.

Legalities and Documentation Prior to Leaving Ireland
In Turkey
Both the Bride and Groom must obtain a Certificat de Coutume otherwise known as Freedom to Marry Certificate or Certificate of No Impediment. In the case of Irish Nationals applications for these certificates are made to the Department of Foreign Affairs and the certificates are issued by the Embassy of Ireland in Ankara. Holders of other passports should consult their own national authorities or Embassy for information on the procedures that apply in their case.

Close family members or anyone who shares the same surname as the Bride or Groom cannot act as witnesses but they can still act as bridesmaids or groomsmen. Your wedding co-ordinator can arrange for the attendance of witnesses if required and will also arrange for the attendance of an official translator as required by law in the case of foreigners marrying in Turkey. Your bilingual wedding co-ordinator will accompany you and provide transport during the medical examination and the processing, translation and notarisation of all documents.

Suggested Reception Venues In Bulgaria the preferred reception venue tends to be a hotel as opposed to a restaurant. However if you would prefer a restaurant, your wedding planner can advise you. Religious Weddings in Mauritius
Applications for proposed civil weddings between two non-citizens should reach Mauritius at least 2 months before the proposed date of the Civil wedding in order to enable the Civil Status office to process the documents and obtain the appropriate clearances. One or two days before the wedding, the bride and groom will have to produce the necessary original documents to the Civil Status Office situated in PortLouis before going to the Supreme Court to swear an affidavit. Once this has been done, they will head to the Civil Status Office of the relevant locality for the publication of the bans.The civil wedding may take place 24 hours afterwards. The couple will be accompanied by a Wedding Coordinator to fulfil all the above formalities.
Whether the wedding is a traditional one in a private chapel with just a couple of local witnesses, or a much larger ceremony with family and friends, our wedding coordinators can arrange it all.

IMPORTANT NOTICE A widow or divorcee is not legally authorised to remarry less than 300 days following her husband’s death or after her divorce has been declared unless she undergoes a medical examination in the respective country which will ascertain that she is not pregnant. The medical report should reach us at least 30 days prior to the wedding date.
IMPORTANT NOTICE Please note 60 days notice will be required prior to the couple's arrival in Mauritius to be able to take care of all the necessary details. The relevant documents should reach the Bishop of Port Louis at least 60 days prior to the wedding date. The couple will not be able to exchange vows in a church if one of the spouses has previously been married in church.
