GRENADA

I

f you want to understand the soul of a country, the national dish is usually a good place to start, and Grenada is no different. ‘Oil down’ is a hearty one pot stew, and its ingredients tell the story of this little island nation: callalloo and dasheene are native to the Caribbean, the cuts of pork were originally leftovers from the plantation house, and turmeric was introduced by 19th-century immigrants from South Asia. But Grenada is not a place that looks solely to its past; this is also a country with a cultural impact that belies its diminutive size, whether it’s the Olympic exploits of sprinter Kirani James or the latest looks from fashion designer Fe Noel, whose creations have been worn by Beyoncé and Michelle Obama. Ask Grenadians what they love about their homeland and you’ll get the same answers that you would from the team: it’s the warmth of the people, the gentle pace of life, the unspoilt natural beauty and the good times by the world-class beaches. You can spend your days exploring rainforests and waterfalls, snorkelling and scuba diving amongst tropical fish, visiting rum distilleries and spice markets, and of course enjoying warm hospitality at our favourite boutique hotels.
