01 Colonizing Rococo PennDesign Fall 2013 The idea behind this project was to use contemporary techniques, such as aggregation and emergence to try to revisit architectural problems of the past. Contemporary computer techniques allow for the use of highly complex geometries that could only be achieved by master craftspeople in the past. The project is specifically dealing with the ideas of asymmetry and symmetry and questions of ornament. Looking back at problems from the 18th century bring about questions of contemporary problems such as facade as ornament and the relationship between symmetry and asymmetry. Baroque and Rococo craft work and architecture were a specific jumping off point when looking at these issues. The emergent qualities in the building arise from the aggregation of parts to create to create a whole. The symmetry in the project was then put in as a counterbalance to the emergent technique that had already taken place. This is the point at which an uncanny scenario happens in the building where emergence and contemporary issues of creation are brought back into the historical issues of symmetry and asymmetry of the Baroque and Rococo. The building twisting as it rises from the site is meant to question the dogmatic approach to the ground and transform into a more loose and asymmetrical condition of object in the sky. This can be seen as a interperation of the difference between Baroque and Rococo where Baroque is symmetric and more static and Rococo become asymmetric and dynamic.

02 Oscillating Healthcare: Philadelphia Public Health Center PennDesign Spring 2013 The idea of specialized and generalized healthcare creates different situations of program that are also generalized (open floor plan) and specialized (compartmental floor plan). This is allows for different senses of joining or fragmenting peoples experience. This idea of specializing and generalizing translates to the secondary programs of the market and outdoor recreation. In the market there is instances of individual venders and combined vendors. In the recreation space there are individual sports areas and team sports areas that also speak to the generalized and specialized needs in sports. The form of this project was established though a series of explorations in paper folding and grasshopper scripting as both analog and digital ways of understanding systems. Sine waves were also studied for their osculating nature. A market was also part of the program which helped connect the healthcare and sporting areas.

03 Blind Site House PennDesign Fall 2012 The Blind Site House was an investigation into both the creation of site from the lack of a given to site but also an experiment in the way of understanding space without vision. The stacking of pieces was meant to help one feel their way through the space as a opposed to see there way through a space. Each program was also slighty seperated from one another to given the resident an idea of threshold without having to navigate through doors. The natural lighting within the house was also inverted to provide a new understanding of what could be dark and what could be light. With the library now becoming embedded into the terrain to restrict light in what would be an otherwise bright place for retrieving books and the bedroom now having a large openning to allow more light in then one would typically want. The idea of bending was also looked at which established how far the house could bend before the programs would break down due to the lack of proximity to one another.

04 Sensory Cabaret PennDesign Fall 2012 The Sensory Cabaret was an extension of what senses could be controlled or heighted by denieing a sense to an audience. Two theater audiences were placed in opposition to one another to provide viewers or listeners with two different perspectives of a cabaret one with no view of the performance and one with no sound from the performance. Inbetween these spaces were a resteraunt and a bar where people would hopefully discuss what was gained from the heightened experience from the lack a normally present sense. The cabarets that would be preformed would contain multiple acts which could allow people to move between audience areas to achieve both views of the performance. Different orentations and placements of program were studied to provide the optomium arrangement of opposing senses. Other spaces such as rehersal spaces were also arranged to allow for minimum exposure to the audience. An excavated space below the building was also created so the public would be able to get glimpies of the cabaret and be inticed to come in and enjoy the show. A small armiture was also designed to be able to contain an iphone and show on a small scale the ideas of the project with one side viewing the video from the iphone while the other hearing the sound from it.
