EDITORIAL
Dear Superior Magazine readers, For many of us November is the grey month in which everybody looks back at the warm summer and can’t wait for X-mas time. With our November issue we at least do something against a grey mood – we show you colourful fashion editorials. Our cover editorial comes from Christopher Fuhrmann. The idea to shoot “Colour Block Hero” came from the youth culture of Frankfurt where sportswear brands like Nike and Adidas dominate the street style. The city is a melting pot of different cultures such as Turkish, Eritrean, German and so on but wearing the same well known sportswear brands unites them. “Le Bouquet” by Nikolas Tsakris from Greece shares our love for Down Under. As a long-time lover of Australia and of the Hippie youth movement, Nikolas tried to connect these two in a modern way in this photoshoot by using studio pieces within a natural environment resembling the Australian flora. And for everybody who still feels a bit “grey” our “medicine” are the bright editorials “Who does your laundry” by Julia Shyrokova, „Croatia“ by Heiko Laschitzki and „Monogamy“ by Guido Martirani.

For our Superior Magazine App we are busy working on the next issue. The focus theme for that issue will be “Hope”. We like to present people and projects that give some hope to the world. Some of them are big things, but we also like to present small initiatives that show with how much enthusiasm many of us try to make our world a little bit better. Even the process, meeting these people and talking to them is exciting for us. Next month our Superior Magazine App will not only have a new focus theme. We also will come out with some new cities. Stay tuned and see which exciting cities we add.
Enjoy our November issue …

CHRISTOPHER FUHRMANN ORIGIN Germany, based in Frankfurt am Main PHOTOGRAPHIC APPROACH Words like minimalistic and authentic might describe his photographic style best. SOURCE OF INSPIRATION For Christopher inspiration can be found almost anywhere like in movies, TV shows, music and books. But since he is working with a few fashion bloggers he gets inspired by their blogs too. ABOUT HIS FASHION EDITORIAL COLOUR BLOCK HERO FOR SUPERIOR MAGAZINE The idea to shoot Colour Block Hero came from the youth culture of Frankfurt where sportswear brands like Nike and Adidas dominate the street style. The city is a melting pot of cultures such as Turkish, Eritrean, German and so on but the majority of youngsters wears a number of well known sportswear brands. Sportswear is a dress code that communicates to a large amount of people all over the globe and includes its wearer to a very large crowd or as one could say the mainstream. However his approach is that fashion is a way to include and exclude people even within a certain group people like to be somewhat individual. The Colour Block Hero works with well-known brands and a universal dress code and still makes it look unique. The outfits say: he knows how to rock colours.

GUIDO MARTIRANI ORIGIN Italy, based in Rome PHOTOGRAPHIC APPROACH If Guido has to describe his work he would say that in photography he’s looking for something that he doesn’t have and he has never had and that maybe does not even exist. He tries to catch atmospheres, that have nothing to do with his live in any way. Even though his origin brings him close to paintings from great masters of the past and also contemporary art. With a fondness for fashion photography, that is not to glossy and commercial his approach is more experimental and modern since in his eyes the term “fashion photography” is reductive. Never satisfied with his own work he is always looking for new approaches and tries to do better while he continues to look at the world like it’s something magical. SOURCE OF INSPIRATION Guido is always up to date when it comes to the evolution of photography, whilst getting inspiration from his idols of photography. These are not only inspiration but motivation as well. Mostly it’s not the single object or event, that is inspiring but a combination of many sensations in the daily life, that suddenly cause the desire to create something new. ABOUT HIS FASHION EDITORIAL MONOGAMY FOR SUPERIOR MAGAZINE It is not the first time, that Guido and the fashion designer Kim Shui work together. Kim Shui’s creativity paired with the right model and a good make-up artist for sure is a good basis for the success of the project, says Guido. With the editorial, shot in an urban location, that looks like out of this time, aseptic and colourful at the same time, he would like to show how the richest and elaborate garments can be dressed in our everyday lives. Therefore they chose Ostia, at the coast of Rome, and try to create a contrast between the garments and the place so the opposites can coexist well. 17
HEIKO LASCHITZKI ORIGIN Germany, based in Berlin PHOTOGRAPHIC APPROACH Photography with elements of classic reportage and portrait photography. But he wouldn’t necessarily consider himself a fashion photographer. SOURCE OF INSPIRATION His source of inspiration can be found everywhere... whether it is conscious or unconscious... We all see and consume so many pictures each day through media and internet... some of those images just stay in your mind and come up again the moment you have a photo shoot. Exhibitions and looking through magazines is inspiration as well and can be put into ideas when it comes to planning an editorial. ABOUT HIS FASHION EDITORIAL CROATIA FOR SUPERIOR MAGAZINE There was no big story behind this editorial. It was more of a spontaneous trip to Croatia in the end of the summer when it was already autumnal and all the tourists were gone and one can feel a certain kind of loneliness.

JULIA SHYROKOVA ORIGIN Ukraine, based in Prague PHOTOGRAPHIC APPROACH Since a certain style is just restriction for Julia, she doesn’t have one. SOURCE OF INSPIRATION She finds her inspiration in people – they are incredible in their inimitability and inconsistency. But also books, old photography and natural light and colours inspire her. ABOUT HER FASHION EDITORIAL WHO DOES YOUR LAUNDRY FOR SUPERIOR MAGAZINE Lots of people do their laundry every day. Some of them use laundromats. This is a quite boring activity and everyone looking forward to getting it over with. Julia tries to entertain the recipient by encouraging him to think about duality of meanings: «Who does your laundry?». About the contrast between the small, poorly lit laundry room and the open air, streets and high buildings. Just the noise is the same in both places. This editorial is about the colourful and rapid life in a big city with stylish people in stylish places, dull moments that change into a swirl of movement.

© Nikolas Tsakris
NIKOLAS TSAKRIS ORIGIN Greece, Athens PHOTOGRAPHIC APPROACH From day one we learn, that boys are “blue” and girls are “pink”. Boys are tough and girls are soft. What is attractive and what is hideous, what is wrong and what is correct. Nikolas believes, that stereotypes in general, like the aforementioned have formed everything around us, which form the “accepted” reality. Currently he is experimenting with twisting the reality in various photographic ways to find his identity as a photographer. From a technical point of view, a lot of times the way I shoot is characterised by capturing the moment while the model is occupied doing something else and preferably while she or he is not looking into the camera. SOURCE OF INSPIRATION It’s not a single style, thing or photographer that is inspiring Nikolas. He rather tries to come up with something new from scratch. Most of the time this is combined with a certain approach when it comes to emerge with a new editorial idea. Often ideas come up by looking at a model’s face and start thinking how I would like to see this face in a fashion story, in a location or in a studio. Of course the model and I will improvise a lot during the shoot. ABOUT HIS FASHION EDITORIAL LE BOUQUET FOR SUPERIOR MAGAZINE As a long-time lover of Australia and of the Hippie youth movement, Nikolas tried to connect these two in a modern way in this photoshoot by using studio pieces within a natural environment resembling the Australian flora.
