HEALING LIGHT

24

Modular Product Special ❤ H2A

H2A H2A is a daring architectural lighting concept that was initially developed by reputed hospital planners in collaboration with the Modular Design Team. New concepts and modern technologies increasingly characterise operations in modern hospitals and nursing homes. The product characteristics of H2A lie at the interface between concept and technology. H2A’s clean, minimalist and individualistic design is perfectly complemented by the required technological characteristics which light must comply with in modern healthcare. Different dimming systems, such as the DALI protocol, pushdim and analogue dimming, make it possible to generate different colours of light. This compatibility of the technology used makes the synergy complete.

HIGH POWER LED

H2A is a modular system which offers tailored lighting solutions. In particular, the different combinations that can be made with polycarbonate, reflector, wattage and dimming make the system flexible from all perspectives. Modular developed H2A specifically for the health sector in an endeavour to create ‘functional, pleasant and aesthetically sound lighting’. The well-being of patients and staff are of central importance in modern provision of services.

The H2A High Power LED module is a unique development that was designed as an accent light and/or reading light. The LED is encapsulated in a lens which means the light dispersal is packed into a 15° angle. Thanks to the 355° horizontal and approximately 55° vertical directability, the one or two lamp LED module can be pointed at a reading surface. The LED module is equipped with cold white (6000 Kelvin) or warm white LEDs (3200 Kelvin).

Download the complete H2A brochure at www.supermodular.com (download area).

Modular Product Special â?¤ H2A

CONVENTIONAL LED A conventional LED module (available in 4 colours: amber, red, blue and white) provides minimum orientation lighting. On the one hand H2A can contain conventional LEDs which spread diffuse light because they are built in behind the matt polycarbonate in the profile. On the other hand, direct orientation light can be created. The conventional LEDs below the H2A profile actually spread the light through an opening in the profile.

Modular Product Special ❤ H2A

H2A module downlight The angular polycarbonate that closes off the slanting side of the H2A profile illuminates when a T5 down module is integrated. Depending on the selected lamp power (24W, 39W or 54W) the lighted zone becomes bigger or smaller. The direct light output from the different modules is reinforced by using an integrated white reflector to create better reading, working or ambient lighting among other things.

AZ St-Jan AV, Bruges (Belgium) arch. Amélie Huybrechts, AZ St-Jan AV, starring: H2A

H2A module uplight Due to the modular features of the system, H2A is a lighting profile which can combine different light intensities and ambiences with one another. The lighting module for indirect room lighting can be equipped with one or two T16 24W/39W or 54W lamps. The upper side of the H2A module is finished with a transparent or diffuse polycarbonate. The one lamp continuous lighting line contains T5 24W/39W/54W with a cold or warm white lighting colour that can be operated by 3 dimming systems: 1-10V, dali and pushdim. In particular, the two lamp module can be operated by an optics sensor. Therefore H2A can be called an energysaving Lighting solution because the sensor dims the lamps accordingly as daylight increases.

H2A down

H2A up poly diffuse

Moreover, H2A-profile’s continuous fluorescence uplight module is equipped with a white symmetrical reflector on a standard basis. This provides an even light output. An asymmetrical light output is available as an option and this ensures that the light shines on the target surface under a corner.

Modular’s old headquarters was nice but… we were crammed like sardines in a tin. Architects Coussée & Goris provided an adequate solution, with enough space for all of us. It’s still in Roeselare, on ‘home ground’, with a LightBox that has become a colourful landmark alongside the E403.We love it. These pages only contain a glimpse, but certainly, Modular’s new building shines even better in reality. We will be happy to walk you around if you happen to visit us.

A ROOM TO SHOW HOMAGE TO THE MODULAR BEAM SQUAD

A new building comes with a new showroom. Rotor Group designed the showroom and they paid homage to the Modular Beam Squad, and wanted to relate with Modular’s new catalogue, stand concept and advertising. Rewind forward, this is back to the Retro-Future. The cages refer to unusual high-tech spaces, the fluorescence refers to light (of course) and to retro-new techniques. The central tower functions as a guarding gate which has to protect the RetroFuturistic society against evil attacks. The tree and the Beam Squad Combi are an ode to our Life-Light™ heroes.

32

Modular ❤ retrofuture

THE YEAR WAS 2057 Floating Light Beams with genetic DNA were entering our atmosphere. After years of evolution, these Light Beams had become self-maintained: light without a source!

were transformed into friendly lights. Thousands were captured, injected and DNA-altered. Eventually, they all asked voluntarily to be integrated into a Modular fixture.

Unfortunately, these living light sources were vicious and had only one evil thing in mind: light-blinding the world. They multiplied themselves exponentially. Nature was killed. Mankind was endangered.

In 2061, Modular produced its first lighting fixture with its now renowned Life-Light™ system.

In the year 2059 the Modular Beam Squad came to the rescue. They found a tree ‘Platanum Luminianis’ that had survived all the light attacks. It appeared that the tree’s life juices were of extremely good quality. In a final confrontation the evil Light Beams light-bombed the tree, but the Modular Beam Squad could save all its life juices.

As Modular’s new range grew, the attempts to copy or to manipulate the living Life-Light™ became a real threat. The collection of lights is now being protected in specially developed high-impact cages. Modular. Light that really responds to your emotion…

Modular injected the juices into the Light Beams, changing their DNA structure. The vicious invaders

Modular ❤ a beautiful face

Making it up, at age sixteen is a gesture between playing and sexuality. You think it is fun to ‘play’ grown up, but at the same time you become a grown-up. Every girl wants to look beautiful, attractive. (it’s nature calling). Experimenting with make-up is part of the last stadium of your childhood.

make up 38

As a teenager your skin is still young and smooth. You look natural. Your skin will never be that smooth again, so don’t spoil it by applying the wrong products (your moms anti-aging balsam) or by not rinsing your skin. (yeks). Remember, you don’t need to disguise yourself, - maybe a bumpy pimple, at least. While doing your make-up, you should never exceed the border of ‘soft and subtle.’ You are only sixteen, remember. The colors that make you shine at best are the ones that are closest to your natural skin tone. Of course, a bit of color can be added such as shades of pink, coral, neutral brown and gray. Here are a few steps that any teenage girl can use to transform into a blooming adult.

Modular ❤ a beautiful face

MRS BONEFITA'S MAKE UP TIPS 1

Don’t copy your mam. She probably has bad schminking habits anyway. (Your mom is also about 3 decades older then you are).

7

Apply one coat of brown mascara but if you have naturally black eyelashes, you may also use black mascara.

10

Look for your personal parfume. Don’t copy the odour of your girlfriend or you’ll all smell the same, and that would disturb the boys.

8 2

Opt for a natural look and light application. Do this graduatly, or your mom will pop you out of the house. 3

Cover any skin imperfections like acnes, skin blemishes, or scars with a concealer pencil that matches your skin tone.

If you have a warm skin undertone, use sheer application of peach blush but if you have a cool skin undertone, use soft pink shade. Blend it well using cotton ball. 9

11

Rinse the makeup residue when taking some zzz’s, or pimps and acne will pop out like mushrooms on your face. Make up tips by Mrs. Bonefita (ceo of cacoa)

Use natural shade of lip color or just sheer gloss for a soft nude look and you are ready for the party, girl.

4

Use a toothbrush to brush brows into place. 5

Use a soft gray eye pencil to fill in any gaps in the eyebrows. 6

Use soft gray eyeliner to line the lashes and blend it well to the outside edge.

How to annoy your parents

40

Modular ❤ your parents

W

e probably never intend to annoy our parents, but as we grow up we develop our own style, we become an individual species of human mankind. For some of us, being dressed as a pink canarian bird was a mistake. Other might say they grew over it. And another minority is still dressed like that. Who’s right, who’s wrong?

Here are some styles that might annoy your parents when you’re sixteen 1 leg warmers (too sexy, or too kiddish) 1 nose-rings (boring and ugly) 1 dreadlocks (get real, this is not jamaica) 1 mini skirts (too mini) 1 five year old Run-DMC Adidas (too filthy) 1 needles and pins (for dogs) 1 bleeched mullet hair (Billy Idol is gone) 1 skateboards (too trashy) 1 all black (too black) 1 leather fetishwear (wrong planet) 1 baggy trowsers (madness) 1 LVMH (too preppy) 1 low (like in very low) rised jeans (honey, we can almost see your crotch) 1 buttock exposure (too jelly that belly) 1 string exposure (at age 16?) 1 base ball caps (too stupid) 1 hoodies (are you a hoodigan?) 1 skinny jeans (how skinny will it get?) 1 110 kg of meat (stop eating candy) 1 35 kg of meat (start eating) 1 yellow smilies (too acid) 1 1001 styles (too eclectic) 1 crisp and clean (we are bad parents) 1 liprings (it’s not so tasty to look at you when you speak or eat)

Hit wonders Don’t you remember how you used to love your musical heroes more than your parents when you were sixteen? Remember how you used to know everything about them? How you did everything to get a signature from

your heroes? Here are some of those hit wonders you used to love.

Abba became popular by winning the Eurovision Song Contest, and became a hit machine quickly. Singer Agnetha started her carreer writing and singing schlager songs.

The Bee Gees were the brothers Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb. Initially soft rockers, they became most popular with their high-voiced disco harmonic songs.

Spandau Ballet sold millions of records since their debut in the 80-ies, but still continue to make us happy with more new music.

Bananarama’s first single, “Aie A Mwana”, was sung entirely in Swahilli. It did not become a hit. Later they scored lot’s of Top 40 hits, including “Love in the first Degree” and “Cruel Summer”.

Michael Jackson’s music unites black and white. It just never gets old - just like his taste for boys. His numerous hits earned him enough to buy new white socks every day.

Boney M, the Daddies of Cool, consisted of four people, and a German record producer behind the scene. This same producer later created 80-ies dance sensation Milli Vanilli.

There is a lot to say about George Michael, but we won’t.

Boy George. Eeee !

Bon Jovi, lead by Jon, made better music in the eighties. Their hair was a lot better, too.

Dear Zinetta, I feel attracted to another student in my classroom. This should not be such a problem but we are both girls. I am not sure if my feelings are upright, although I have never had such a tingling fever whenever I am with a boy. Please advice, because I think neither I, nor my family is ready to hear that I kiss other girls. I am so confused. I cannot stop thinking of her. Brunette from Brussels Dear Brunette from Brussels, At this moment it is normal that you feel confused. Time is the only answer to your questions. If you fall in love with girls, then so it is. This is no shame. If your next friend is a boyfriend, that’s fine to. Your hormones are peaking in your body at your age. They confuse your mind and your behavior. Once your hormones have found their body balance, your mind will be in balance to. Try to listen to your mind, and don’t date boys because you think you will hurt your family if you date girls. In the end, the only one hurt, will be you.

Want to talk to Mrs. Zinetta? Send an email to zinetta@supermodular.com, and maybe your letter will become our letter-of-the-month. Next edition you can win a Nomad minimal desk.

Congratulations Grégoire, you have won a Kabaz Floor.

r Lette of theth! mon

Hi Zinetta, I fell in love with my mathematics teacher. She is 33 years old, looks like a goddess, smells ravishing and shines like a star. I am 16, and I want to be her God forever. Each Friday, we have a secret rendezvous after school. At first we just talked, then we kissed but last week she stripped to me, showing her entire lingerie collection. Next week, she will introduce me to some love-techniques. I am afraid I am not ready for this; moreover, she is my teacher, double my age. Please advise. Grégoire M., Lille. Dear Grégoire. Gods and Goddesses should be equal. So a little mathematics do help here. She is double your age, and has probably a triple matureness and a quadruple love-experience. If I ad up, I advice you to make her single again. If she’s into mathematics, she’ll understand. And if she doesn’t, then tell her that you’ll come live with her. Don’t forget to mention that you need to do some studies first, and that your first paycheck will be cashable, well euhm let’s say, in about ten years. Trust me, her mathematic brain will work again.

Hi Miss Z. I am sixteen in three weeks and I feel unsure. Everybody expects me to act mature, ripe or grown-up. I really hate those words, I am not ready for this. My body is ok, I have become more feminine, - you probably know what I mean -, but my problem is that I still play with dolls, puzzles with nice kittens, or I still collect printed flashy stickers with cats, hearts or fluffy animals. I cannot talk to my girlfriends because all of them are having this new kind of ‘sweet sixteen’ fun. Do I have a mental disease or is it possible that my hormones are not ready for this ??? Vanessa C, Stockholm. Dear Vanessa, You should never rush. It is bad for your health and it makes you do things you never intend to do. I read in your letter, which had a very nice drawing on the back, that your body is ok. This means that u already have become a little more attentive to your physical looks. There is no need to panic. Whether you like it or not, you will grow mature, (and it is not so bad as you think) It is absolutely normal that your mental age is not synchronal with your physical age.

Dear Zinetta, We are identical twins and our joke has escalated. Our boyfriend doesn’t know he is dating twin sisters, he thinks he is dating ‘one’ girl, called Genevieve. He never saw us together, and we both have seen him three times. (We toss coins). But,... we fell in love with him ! And, we don’t want to share him any longer. We quarrel every minute, and this situation is driving us mad, if not apart. Please help. Desperate Ahna & Desperate Sophia, Lyon, France Hello Sisters, You two really are making a mess, so you better clean up! Face it, girls, you will lose this boyfriend. If one day he finds out (and he will) the two of you fooled him, his love will disappear in a jiffy. Boys don’t like to be fooled. If you continue like this, the quarrels will become fights. I advice to stop thinking on your identical looks, but focus on the differences you both have. (there must be some). As a result I am sure your beloved ones will be different as well.

Dear Zinetta, My name is Gwendolonia and I hate this name. Whenever I hear my name, it sounds like an old witches with ugly noses mixed with bad perfume. I always hear many laughs when I say my name. Gwendolonia. (ha-ha, I hear you laughing already) Dear Gwendolonia. My name is Zinetta and I hated my name. Whenever I heard my name, it sounded like old magazines with an ugly layout mixed with exhaust fumes. One day, I didn’t change my name, but I changed myself. Whenever I hear my name now, it sounds like a Modular magazine with a fine shape mixed with nice lighting. From then on, people started to wander in my eyes.

Hello Mrs. Zinetta, My dad is divorced, and has a new partner. She is nice, but one of her suns is even nicer. I know I should suppress my feelings, but I fell in love with him. We already kissed twice, and although he shares the same butterfly-feeling for me, he thinks we should act as brother and sister. He refuses to deepen our relationship, and he started to ignore me. I know his heart bleeds as much as mine. Can you tell me what to do? Crazy-in-love-girl-Nathalia, Koksijde (Belgium) Hello Nathalia, If you love your dad, then don’t. If you love your mom, then don’t. If you like your new stepmother, then don’t. If you like your new stepbrothers, then don’t. Again, this relationship can only work if you both have an high ‘crazy love level’, needed to do crazy things such as running away and starting a new life full of uncertainties.) You say that he already ignores you. This means his ‘crazy love level’ has lowered already, and my experience is that ‘crazy love reservoirs’ have no refill cap.

Hi Misses Zinetta, I want to wear an earring, (I am a boy), but my best friends say this is for gays and social misfits. I believe this is a very stylish attribute. Yvan, Retranchement, The Netherlands. Dear Yvan, If you also like moustaches, I would say: ‘go ahead’, your opinion on stylish attributes are completely out of whack anyhow. If you don’t like moustaches, then you should know that earrings are neither for gays nor for social misfits. They’re just not nice on a guy’s ear, that’s all. Do you think we girls like to clean the carburetor of a moped? I don’t think so. Leave the beautification to us, girls.

☞ Place the glucose in a thick-bottomed steel pan. Pour in the sugar and water. Allow this to cook at 130°C until it forms a syrup.

☞ Even out the first part of the mixture, cover it with the second half and smooth the surface with a pallet knife.

☞ In the meantime, whisk the egg whites in the mixer at a low speed and soak the gelatine. Now pour the syrup gradually into the egg whites while they continue to be gently whisked in the mixer.

☞ Put in a cool place (but not in the refrigerator) and allow to set.

☞ Next switch the mixer to full speed. Melt the gelatine in 25 g water and add it to the egg whites while it is still warm. Let it continue to mix for about two more minutes.

☞ Take the marshmallow out of the mould using a knife or blowtorch. Cut in long strips and dustwith a mixture of half icing sugar and half cornstarch.
