ABOUT THE COVER:
This is a beautiful photo of Georgian Charles Dolan giving pointers to youngster Dustan Haldane about how to hit a dove with a .410 while hunting out of Zulu Wings Lodge in South Africa. Trek VP Ron Stafford shot this photo with a Nikon D-70S at 145 mm and an exposure of 1/640 of a second. And oh by the way, Dustan is the son of longtime Trek PH/outfitter Mark Haldane who has his boy starting early. 2
Over the years I have noted with some regularity, negative articles about fishing guides in the Florida Keys. Especially in the Angling Report where Editor Don Causey would print a monthly “guide beware” column. Causey, who rarely passes up any opportunity to raise a controversy, would solicit comments from his subscribers and man, some of the comments you heard were pretty bad too. I mean guides not catching fish, not having a Bose Sound System on board and feeding anglers canned tuna fish. Oh, the horror of it all!!! All joking aside, some of the guides in the Keys needed a bit of a “market correction” as tales of snarly, grumpy guides made the circuit as wanting expert anglers who tipped well and kept their mouths shut. Heaven forbid if you asked for any angling advice or inquire about the area you are to fish. That’s right Mr. Florida Keys guide, not everyone has fished with Lefty Kreh and bothers to take a GPS on board so lighten your sassy self up!! Anyone of you who has ever read this column knows how I feel about guides who think they are entitled to something before you ever leave the dock. Well for what it’s worth, the dock is probably the first place you should get things squared away, that way you don’t have far to go should you tire of the verbal abuse and general indifference of your guide. Now with that said, I must make a confession. You ready for this? Until this past 4th of July I have never been to the Florida Keys!! That’s right, me Mr. Safaris guy who is a Florida native and world traveler had until last month, never been to the Keys. So the boss (errr wife) and I, along with oldest daughter Jaimie and her beau Will, took a short excursion from Ft. Lauderdale to Hawks Cay Resort on Duck Cay. While Cara had not been to the Keys either, she has had the pleasure of my company to just about every island in the Caribbean and most of them involved a five star property on the Hanburry Rating Scale. Well the first thing we noticed on the way down was that this was not the Caribbean. Not the Bahamas either, but as we soon found out the Florida Keys has its own character and we were about to meet him. His name is Capt. Dave Perry and he owns a 26 foot Regulator called the Eagle Eye. We came upon him more by luck, but his listing is prominently displayed at the Hawks Cay Marina information sheet so he is not hard to find. After realizing that the first thing you must have in the Keys is a fast boat and a good guide, we did well to score on both accounts. My only requirement of Capt. Dave was that he needed to be flexible, as in catch a lot of fish for me and Will and be ready to head towards land at a moment’s notice if it got too rough for the girls or when their appetite called. No canned tuna for this crowd!! To his credit, Dave was always willing to listen to our requests and most of the time would offer a plan that was well received by all. Not an easy
task on family vacations as I have experienced firsthand. Our days would start in the morning calm, bottom bumping for Red or Mutton snappers using an assortment of baits like ballyhoo, pilchards, crabs and cigar minnows. While we enjoyed taking a few fish each morning, it was listening to Capt. Dave’s contagious chatter that made our trip. You see, Dave is a third generation native of the Keys and also a husband, father of two daughters, and apparently one heck of a softball coach. But it was his descriptions of the Keys gone by and the seemingly endless flow of Spring Breakers and Key West Patrons that kept us in stitches. After each half day fishing session we would take a late lunch in places like Sparky’s, Burdines and the Hideaway Cafe; all waterfront establishments that are slowly disappearing on the mainland to multi-story condos. We ate conch fitters, lots of fresh fish and took in all that is famous about the Keys; boats and water!! You have flats water, deep water, closed waters, and open waters. There are bays, lagoons, sounds, and two oceans!! The Keys is one huge coral surrounded by reefs and you guessed it, more water. And there are boats of all sorts and while considered a luxury in most parts, they are an absolute necessity in the Keys. Capt Dave also has a wooden 39 Buddy Davis Classic that he takes offshore, but I got the feeling that he prefers the inshore activity better. I think the shorter run time after the fishing allows him to indulge in his second hobby of golf!! Not many courses around but Dave finds them between trailer home parks. During the evenings hours we had our catch cooked up the way we liked it and enjoyed the fresh breezes of the Atlantic. The newly renovated Hawks Cay was fine, although a bit pricey in our opinion. But no trip to the Keys is a total success unless you pass the seven mile bridge to the lower Keys and wind up in Key West. This is the drive you hear about and worth a visit alone. But if you have driven the 150 miles or so down the chain from Biscayne Bay and haven’t found what you are looking for, you will most likely find it in Key West and that includes some great fishing, interesting sights and lots of cultural history. Would we go back? Yes, but only if Capt Dave was available and we could get a decent house on the water in Key Colony. Next trip will involve some tarpon and flats fishing. Oh my, are there tarpon there!!

HUNTING 4
Buenos Aires - Argentina
So many Birds, you’ll have a hard time choosing what to Shoot! The Argentine Waterfowl season, South of the Equator is some of the finest in the world. If classic decoy action is your game, then the Buenos Aires Province is the place to hunt. Trek also provides a first rate goose hunt in this same region only two hours south. This is a great combination all within driving distance from the Buenos Aires International Airport. DUCKS The Trip: The trip originates with an overnight flight from Miami arriving early morning in Buenos Aires. Our agents and guides will meet you at the airport and after getting your guns registered and clearing customs you will head to our duck operation near the town of Carlos Casares. The drive is about four hours and you should arrive in time to go out and shoot some ducks the first afternoon. The next three days will be full duck hunting days with both morning and afternoon hunts. The sixth day will be your last morning hunt before packing up, having lunch and returning to Buenos Aires for your flight home. During your stay you will comfortably reside at Monte Laguna Lodge, a first class establishment with excellent service. The best part is that the duck hunting is usually done within 15 minutes from the lodge! The Shooting: There are eleven different varieties of ducks from Pintails, Widgeons, and Tree Ducks to Colorful Teal, including the magnificent Silver Teal that sports a bright yellow bill that are common hunters. The Ducks are hunted from natural and perfectly prepared blinds that will have you getting close and personal with the decoying birds. GEESE The Trip: Starts with an overnight flight from Miami arriving early morning in Buenos Aires. Our agents and guides will meet you at the international airport and after getting your guns registered and clearing customs you will be transferred straight to our Goose lodge by van. The drive is about five hours long and you will stop for lunch along the way. The Shooting: The Goose hunting in Argentina is for the Ashy Headed and Magellan Geese, which are large birds, similar in size and coloration to
the Snow Geese. To give this trip even more variety, we hunt Pigeons and Perdiz in the afternoons giving the traveling sportsman a real mixed bag. Due to the fluctuation in the migration over the past years we have three different areas for our Goose hunts. Depending on your flight schedule, we will try and shoot some Pigeons the first afternoon. The following three days we will hunt Geese in the mornings and either Pigeon or Perdiz in the afternoons. Hunting for Geese is done from individual pit blinds, two shooters per spread of decoys. The afternoon will be for either Pigeons around the many eucalyptus trees or over pointers for Perdiz. The last day we hunt geese in the morning and after lunch head back to Buenos Aires for your flight back to Miami. Trip Fees:
$ 3,495.00 from Miami. Not included are tips, shotgun shells and items of a personal nature. Combination Hunt: $4,195.00. Extra days can be added for and additional rate of $550.00 per day. June and July ONLY. Combines three days of Duck hunting and two days of Goose hunting or vice versa. Magellan Geese, Pigeons and Perdiz. Call for available dates. Description: Seven days and six nights with four days of shooting. A non refundable deposit is required to confirm your reservation. Season: Ducks: 1st May – 31st July. Geese: June and July ONLY. Argentina - Córdoba

This Argentine Province is one big Dove Roost Trek Safaris and H&H Outfitters have been running Dove hunts in Córdoba since 1989. Dove hunting in this region is the best in the world and our lodges are the finest available. If you are one of our more discriminating customers, please ask to be upgraded to Estancia El Colibrí, Córdoba’s only six star shooting lodge. Call us Today! The Trip: The trip offers four days of shooting (three full and two half days) of high volume shooting. The first day you arrive to Cordoba, your guide will meet you and drive you to the lodge. After lunch we will have an afternoon dove hunt. We shoot until late afternoon and then we return to the lodge for a hot shower, a drink and a fine dinner. The following three days are full shooting days. Generally wake up call is 7:00 a.m. After a full breakfast, we will load into the van and head to field, (most drives are 30-60 minutes, and we control 80% of the flyways in Cordoba). Your pick up boy will meet you in the pre-scouted field with plenty of shells and a cooler full of cold drinks. Shooting should be steady until lunch is ready around midday. Sometimes we have an Argentinian barbecue in the field (steaks, sausages, dove, fresh salad and breads and fine red Argentina wine) other days back to the lodge. Again, you can shoot all day but most guys need a midday break. If we go back to the lodge we return to the field by mid afternoon. We’ll shoot til late afternoon, then return to the lodge. All meals at the lodge are specially prepared for the group. The last day we shoot in the morning only. There’s plenty of time to pack and rest up for the flight home. Trip Fees:
$3,395.00 per person - $4,195.00 for Colibri Upgrade based on double occupancy. Description: Includes RT airfare on LAN airlines from Miami to Cordoba, all hunting with room meals, local beer and wine, a hunting license, gun permits and all transfers. The flight leaves Cordoba early evening. You fly back to Santiago and connect with a non stop, overnight flight back to the U.S. The Shooting: Cordoba has all eared dove, and lots of them! The dove population is unbelievable. Estimates are from 1012 million. And the population continues to increase each year. The eared dove is almost identical to the North American mourning dove. Same size markings, etc. The main difference between the two is the eared dove’s pattern of flying all day long. Each hunter will have an opportunity to shoot 1,000-2,000 shells per day. Some Trek clients have shot much, much more. If you have never been before it is impossible to describe. Until you’ve seen it, you can’t believe it. The Accommodations: Trek has exclusive rights to four deluxe lodges with each having their own distinctive characteristics, design, and location. But the one thing they all have in common is that they offer hunting groups the very best staffing, service and cuisine available in Argentina. Each property was designed for the traveling wingshooter and features amenities like gun rooms, large living rooms with a fireplace, swimming pools, and plenty of space to move about. Group sizes from 6-12 hunters will be hosted by a local manager of the H&H Outfitters Team that has proven to be the best in the business. Plus you may wish to inquire about the super deluxe Estancia Colibri where the most discriminating hunter can choose his wine straight from the cellar or get a tip from the chef.
Corrientes - Argentina
Mix it up in this beautiful Argentine Locale
There are not many places where Dove, Ducks, Perdiz and Pigeon can be hunted in the same country, much less while staying at the same deluxe Lodge. You’ll generally blast a case (500 shell) per half day on Doves, 15-20 boxes on a full day Pigeon shoot, 3-4 boxes per Duck hunt and a couple of boxes on a morning Perdiz shoot. These are average figures and some Trek members have done much, much better! Book your trip today. The Trip: The trip starts with an overnight flight out of Miami to Buenos Aires. A Trek rep meets the group and helps them through customs, then drives the group to the Malalcue Lodge (around an 8 hour drive). Trek guide, Ariel Semenov meets the group at the lodge. Time permitting you will have an afternoon shoot. The following four days are full hunting days. On your last day you will shoot in the morning only, and then driven back to Buenos Aires for your flight home. The Shooting: This is a mixed bag affair, so you’ll do a different type shooting each day. Wake up call depends on what specie we are shooting, but each day will start with breakfast, then a drive to the field or lagoon. Shooting this time of season is two-three hours in the morning, and about three hours in the afternoon. We return to the lodge during midday for lunch and a rest. The Dove in the Malalcue area is the Eared Dove, very much like our Mourning Dove. Most shooting is pass or roost shooting this time of year. If the group wants to shoot Ducks, we are in the blinds before first light. In the afternoon we’ll generally shoot Dove or Perdiz. On this trip we are offering a tremendous variety of shooting activities. In four full days of action, you’ll have four different types of shooting. Generally most groups go after Ducks two or three times, Perdiz once, one day of Pigeons and a day and a half of Dove. There are daily limits on Ducks (25) and Perdiz (8), so these are generally half day shoots. There are no limits on Doves or Pigeons. Our Pigeons are the Argentine Blue-Grey Pigeon. They have the wing span of over 26 inches, larger than a Blue Wing Teal. They are a
sporty bird and a day of Pigeon hunting is something you’ll never forget. Perdiz hunting is very similar to Quail hunting. We shoot over pointing dogs. Limit is eight per day and it usually takes an hour and a half to get your limit. Note Perdiz season is only open from May 1st to August 15th. The Accommodations: Accommodations are excellent. Malalcue Lodge is a large, comfortable hacienda. The lodge has six bedrooms all with private bath, private dining room, living room, bar, gun room, separate barbecue room and swimming pool. The lodge overlooks the Corrientes River. This is Trek’s sixteenth season at Malalcue. Our groups take up the entire lodge. Meals on this trip are especially prepared for the group.
Trip Fees: $5,195.00 per person. Description: The trip fee covers all costs from Miami (including airfare coach class) except shotgun shells ($14.00 per box), tips, and any departure tax (wine and beer provided). Charter flights are available for an additional cost. Trip fee based on double occupancy. A $1,000.00 non-refundable deposit is required to confirm your reservation. Game: Dove, Pigeon, Duck & Perdiz. Pricing is subject to change and excludes any fuel surcharges.

Dove season is year round and you can shoot 1500-2000 rounds per day. Parana River has many islands full of trees where the dove roost each night. Duck hunting is done on the river islands that dot the landscape of the Parana River and is classic style shooting with pairs of ducks decoying to your spread. You will depart the lodge by boat on the river, and you can expect a ride of 20 - 30 minutes to your blind. The perdiz hunting will be done in the pasture fields that dot the area and hunted over well trained dogs. Your host will be George Pavon who has been outfitting for Trek the last 17 years.

Patagonia - Argentina
A perfect combination in Patagonia, Trout & Red Stag There are few places in the world as naturally beautiful as the Patagonia Region of Argentina. It is here in the foothills of the Andes where one can hunt the fabled Red Stag on 25,000 acres of heaven. Estancia San Huberto is world famous for hosting many anglers on their productive trout waters, but for the last 20 years they have cultivated a very healthy herd of Stag and offer only six tags a year. Trek Safaris is very pleased to offer this unique opportunity. The Trip: Getting to San Huberto requires a flight into Buenos Aires and then a connecting flight to San Martin de los Andes where you transfer 45 minutes to the lodge. In some cases you may need to fly into Bariloche where it is a scenic three hour drive to San Huberto. Trek has some exclusive rates with American, Delta and Lan Airlines.
The Accommodations: This two story estancia is located in the shadows of the Lanin Volcano and near the town of Junin de los Andes. Its 25,000 acres are owned by Carlos and Carmen Olsen and has been in their family since before the 20th century. Also during stay, expect to be pampered and treated to some of the best cuisine and service found anywhere in the world.
The Hunting: The hunting as mentioned above takes place on 25,000 acres on the estancia and your hunt will consist of six days on a one to one basis with your expert guide. The Stag here average some 290-300 points (SCI) and have been taken as high as 330 points. The terrain is rolling hills and small scrub but the views are spectacular with the Andes and Lanin Volcano looming in the background. Your host for this trip will be owner and manager Ronnie Olsen. Although the Red Stag was introduced in Patagonia from Europe in the 1930’s, they have taken very well to the local environment. The hunt takes place during their “rutting or roaring” season when these beautiful animals are on full display. During your six days, you may have the opportunity to fish the famous Malleo River that meanders its way through the San Huberto property. Rainbow and brown trout flourish here and offers fly anglers a rare chance to fish private trout waters accessible to only 12 guests a week.
Trip Fees: $10,000.00 per hunter. Description: Includes seven nights stay and six days hunting with meals at San Huberto, trophy fee, and transfers. Rifle and ammo can be provided at no charge. that open up into the manicured courtyard and a swimming pool that is great after a long day in the dove field. In true Uruguayan fashion there a big outdoor barbecue area where the groups meet each night for happy hour. The lodge is very comfortable and quiet and offers a chance to relax and have privacy. The Hunting: The hunting in Uruguay is year round with high volume dove any time of the year and then three months of the popular Perdiz season from May-July. The Carmelo and Colonia areas are large agricultural areas with large tracts of sorghum and sunflower which draws the dove to this area and produces great fields for Perdiz to hide. On an average day you can expect to fire two to four cases of shells on dove. Eduardo has 12, 16, 20 and 28 gauge shells available along with firearms to rent. We have all Eared Dove, which are almost identical to the U.S. Mourning Dove, but here they fly all day. The upland bird, Perdiz, is a swift flying member of the Tinamou family and is mainly seen in singles with the occasional pair. Each day we will start with a full breakfast at the lodge, and then leave for the fields. On most days we will shoot all day with a big “Asado” or barbecue in the field. The asados feature steaks, chicken, lamb, salads, fruits and excellent local Uruguayan wines. After the asados, Eduardo will have hammocks or mattresses to take a quick siesta before heading back out and hunting the afternoons.

Join Trek Safaris to test your shotgunning skills against the largest variety of waterfowl species of any South American Duck hunt. Call today for May-July dates. Our trip starts in Miami with an overnight flight on American Airlines to Montevideo, Uruguay. When you arrive in Montevideo you will be met by Eduardo and his staff. The next five days will be hunting days where you will shoot Ducks in the mornings and Perdiz in the afternoon. After the last morning hunt the group will be driven back to Montevideo where you will catch your overnight American Airlines flights back home arriving in Miami early the next morning. The Accommodations: Our hunt headquarters will again be the Hotel Fortin de San Miguel near the Uruguay/Brazil border town of Chuy. The Hotel is a perfect setting for a group of duck hunters as it is ideally located to the lagoons and has an incredible view of the surrounding countryside. Our return to Fortin was based on the impressive comments made by our groups last season. Each hunter will have his own single room and bath. The rooms are nicely decorated and are plenty spacious enough for two, let alone a single. The food at the hotel is especially prepared for our groups with fine Uruguayan and Argentine beef, as well as local favorites of poultry and pasta. Fine wines from the cellar will round out your meals. The Hunting: You will have five mornings and four afternoons of duck hunting. Each morning you will have a full breakfast at the hotel. Most drives to the Duck Lagoons are 40 minutes to 1 hour. You will be hunting out of rough blinds. We have a good variety of
Ducks in this area. Our main species are the Rosy Billed Pochard, Chiloe Widgeon, Shoveler, and four different types of Teal. The Duck hunting is done out of shallow lagoons and lakes. Eduardo has exclusive leases in the hunting area. Rough blinds are constructed on the edges of the lagoons. Most of the time you will only be in ankle deep water and there is very little walking involved. The ducks in this area decoy very well. The afternoon will be filled walking comfortably behind one of Eduardo’s well mannered Brittany’s. Your target will be the quick f l y i n g Pe rd i z , w h i c h provides lots of action with an average of 3050 flushes. Las Palomas Lodge - Bolivia
Whether you Blast, Cast or both… This is the land of plenty Las Palomas Lodge is as first class as you will find anywhere, the shooting is excellent and the service is hands on from Jorge and Karen Molina all the way down. Think of high volume with the Latin flavor of Colombia. Call Trek today and ask for our new Cast and Blast Special. The Trip: After many years of research and experience, we have learned that a lodge needs to be where the birds are and Las Palomas has achieved this. Drives are only 30-45 minutes in most cases and sometimes less. Vehicles are SUV’s with all the comforts needed for dirt roads in the country. This area is known for its many Mennonite Communities and on occasions we will hunt their lands and learn about their culture. It is impossible at times to describe the sheer number of Doves that pour into the corn, sorghum and sunflower fields. But your shell bill will tell the tale!! The Accommodations: Outfitter Jorge Molina has expanded what was already a tremendous facility into one of the finest hunting lodges in South America. The lodge now accommodates 12 hunters in single rooms and sports a brand new swimming pool that gives the lodge the look and feel of a resort. Imagine that, a resort in the middle of the Chaco where you can shoot eared until your shoulder can’t stand it and return for dip in either their 8 person hot tub or the new swimming pool complete with bar. Massage, no problem they have room for those as well. The Hunting: Getting there is easy with daily flights into Santa Cruz where you will be whisked away to your waiting 25 minute charter flight that
will land on the property. You’ll have time for an afternoon shoot followed by two or three more shooting days before one last morning hunt and an overnight at a five star hotel in Santa Cruz. Your return flight will be a day flight having you home in the same day. Cast and Blast Special: Bolivia borders with Brazil and the rivers in the northern most zone known as the Beni, most of these rivers are tributaries to the mighty Amazon. Thus Peacock Bass and other ferocious fish can be found is great numbers. Jorge Molina has traveled extensively in these areas and has now built an Alaskan styled wall tent fishing camp. Now please note these Peacocks range from 3-8 pounds and are not the huge 20 pounder’s that you find closer to the equator on the Rio Negro. But you will catch from 50 -100 fish per person per day, excellent top water and sub surface fishing to the point you will be wore out in two and half days. Trip Fees:
$2,595 3 day hunt - $2,995 4 day hunt for 2009 season. Shotgun shells $11 per box. Cast and Blast: $4,895.00 from Miami. Picazuro Lodge - Paraguay
Decoying Pigeon Hunting takes on a new dimension in Paraguay Trek set out to have the best pigeon shooting destination in Paraguay and this mission has been accomplished. Erik Von Sneidern’s Picazuro Lodge has delivered the most consistent high volume Pigeon hunt in the world and the results are reflected in repeated bookings. Call now for available dates as the season is already over 60% booked with returning clients. Paraguay is a small South American country, about the size of Pennsylvania and although completely landlocked, it is rich in agriculture, especially sunflower, sorghum, peanuts and corn. The Pigeons are found in an area known as the Chaco Paraguayo, a huge green desert of palm and scrub forests. While it makes up more than two thirds of Paraguay’s geography, only two percent of the Chaco is inhabited. The Trip: The trip has been redesigned for 2009, for five days and four nights, with three full and a two half days of shooting. The trip starts with arrival into Asuncion, Paraguay. Our agent will meet and assist our clients through customs before boarding a private charter directly to the Picazuro Lodge. Once you arrive at the lodge, if time and weather permits, you will hunt that afternoon. The next three days will be full hunting days with shooting over decoys in blinds. On day six, we shoot pigeons until lunch and then we pack for the charter back to Asuncion where you will catch your International flight back home. The Accommodations: The Picazuro Lodge consists of eight single guest rooms, two separate dining facilities, a swimming pool and plenty of open areas for socializing. By far, Picazuro’s greatest asset is its close proximity to the hunting fields. Located south of the town of Filadelfia where Trek once kept its hunters, the lodge affords driving time in minutes instead of hours. The hunting: The shooting usually starts about 45 minutes after first light and lasts until late morning which is when the birds start to slowdown and rest in the trees to digest their morning feed. At midday, we will break for one of Eric’s famous field lunches in a shady area, which may have comfy hammocks for those needing a little siesta. Then you will head back out for the afternoon feed which should last until almost dark. Then back to the
lodge for a hot shower and dinner. Each day you will be presented with a variety of wingshooting opportunities involving two different species, the picazuro and blue/gray spotted pigeon. The use of decoys to attract the pigeons has become a work of art for many of the bird boys in Paraguay.
Trip Fees: $3,395.00 per person from Asuncion, Paraguay. Description: Includes all air transfers in Paraguay, single room occupancy at the Picazuro Lodge, visas, gun permits and licenses, all meals at the lodge including an open bar. Not included are International air fares to and from Asuncion, Paraguay, tips, shotgun shells ($13.00 a box), the last evening’s meals in Santa Cruz, items of a personal nature and an airport departure tax. Hunt Ducks and Doves in the shadow of Volcanoes Our private duck lagoons in Nicaragua are as loaded with teal as they have ever been in 18 years. This incredibly exotic hunt is just two and a half hours from Miami and three hours from Atlanta. Two distinct venues from which to choose. Choluteca - Honduras
So you think you’re a good shooter? Test your skills here
This challenging whitewing hunt has been a mainstay destination for Trek since 1973. Warm weather and challenging shooting for whitewings makes this affordable trip a perfect fit for 2009!! The Trip: Our package begins in Miami where you board a two hour nonstop flight on American Airlines to Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Upon arrival in Tegucigalpa, our guides and agents will be waiting for the group as they depart immigrations and assist the groups through customs. Then we board our bus for a scenic two hour drive south down Mt. Piacho towards our headquarters in the city of Choluteca. After renewed introductions we’ll have dinner and a nights rest. The following three days are two-a day hunting sessions and on the fifth ad final day we’ll pack up and head back to Teguc for our non-stop flight back to the U.S. The Accommodations: The Hotel Gualiqueme is a perfect hunt headquarters with lush tropical surroundings and considered the best hotel in town. We will have all single rooms, each with air-conditioning and private bath with hot water. The hotel has a beautiful swimming pool, full bar, and a private dining room for the groups. The last evening you will enjoy a big barbecue by the swimming pool with dove, chicken, steaks and local Honduran music. The Hunting: The Mourning Doves were excellent this year and the White Wings showed up in good numbers as well. Now please note, Honduras has some the sportiest and challenging shooting available, but it is not to be compard to our South American shoots. You should average about 5-10 boxes per half day of shooting. The birds are extremely fast and when they dart through the trees, they will humble even the most experienced shooter. The morning hunts are mostly done in sorghum, corn or rice fields and afternoon hunts are mainly water holes and roosts depending on the current situation. These are migratory birds so the shooting is usually fast, furious and always extremely sporty. The shoots can last from one to two hours depending on the weather and situation of the shoot. You will be at the fields at first light and in the afternoons you will stay until the birds stop flying so we always maximize the amount of shooting during the peak times. After the morning shoot we will return to the hotel for lunch, have a swim, and take a siesta before heading back out for the afternoon shoot. Each hunter will have two pickup boys that pick up every bird as you
shoot them. Some of the Honduran pickup boys have been guiding Trek hunters for over 35 years and are without a doubt some of the best in the world in finding the downed birds. The pickup boys will knock on your doors before each shoot and grab your guns and shells so when you reach the field you will be all set including a swivel stool with drinks waiting for you.
Trip Fees: $2,195.00 per person. Description: Includes RT ticket on American Airlines from Miami to Tegucigalpa (flights also available from Houston on Continental-call the Trek office for details), all hunting, all licenses/permits, all accommodations and meals. This is the Canadian Goose Hunt we’ve been saving for you
For the avid hunter nothing compares to Greater Canadian Goose Hunting. From the moment you drive onto the field until the last decoy is loaded up, you are part of the hunt. This is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have on the field. Call Trek today and reserve your spot in this new and exciting destination. For the past few years we have been looking for a Canadian operation that we felt could live up to our clients expectations and for 2009 Trek will offer our new outfitters Rick Poulin and Keith Heisler in Saskatchewan. Rick and Keith are not newcomers as they have been in the outfitting business for years and as they are locals they have years of experience hunting these huge birds. They also have rights to hunt an area of about 8475 square miles located only a short two hours drive north of Saskatoon. It is a huge agricultural area that annually draws thousands of migrating geese and ducks as it right in the middle of the central flyway. The trip: Is for six days, five nights with five mornings and four afternoons of shooting. The Trip begins in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on a Sunday’s. Depending on your arrival time, our guides will either meet you at the airport or pick you up from a local hotel around 2:00pm. You will be driven two and a half hours to their Duck, Duck, Goose hunting lodge at Chitek Lake. The lodge was built by Keith and was designed to be used as a hunting lodge. The lodge is a barn shaped building with six bedrooms and three bathrooms, a large living room with satellite TV and the food is good old fashioned country cuisine, perfect for the cold Canadian winters. The Hunt: The following four days will be full hunting days. Our primary focus is waterfowl; we will be up at 4 AM each day. There will be a light snack to get you going - toast, jam, muffins, coffee and juices. Then you are off to the fields for the morning goose hunt. All hunts will be scouted out the
night before, and decisions made regarding whether we will go for greater Canada’s or snows, blue geese, Ross, or speckle bellies. We will also have the opportunity to hunt ducks, mainly Mallards, which will be flying into our decoy spread. When the morning shoot is done we are back to camp for a large, hot, breakfast spread made by our camp cook and some well earned R&R. In the afternoon we can relax or go hunting for upland game birds such as sharp tailed, ruffled, spruce grouse, and Hungarian partridge. If we did not limit out on ducks in the morning hunt we can usually hunt Mallards in grain fields or hunt over water for Mallards, pintails, blue/green winged teals, widgeons, shovelers, red heads, and canvasbacks. At dusk we are usually back at the lodge for a large supper and some good hunting talk. Guides will supply pop, juice, and snacks throughout the day. Your guides are also the owners so you will get the best hunt possible. The last day we will hunt in the morning only and after the mornings shoot we will get settled and p[acked up before returning to Saskatoon for your flight back to the States. We only need about 50 shooters to book an entire season and all good dates usually will be booked by July... If you want to hunt Canada this season, you need to book now. Trip Fees:

Estancia Pinos Altos - Spain
Red Legged Partridge Hunt for our most sophisticated clients Trek Safaris has reserved two lines of guns to hunt the sporty red-legged partridge from Estancia Pinos Altos. Hosts Fernando Saiz and wife Koki have been our Outfitter of choice in Spain for more than 10 years running. The Trip: Upon your arrival in Madrid, Spain, Fernando Saiz or somebody from his staff will be at the airport to greet you and transfer you to their private hacienda, Pinos Altos, located two hours away. The hacienda is a restored 16th century home set in the famed La Mancha region. It sits in the middle of 10,000 acres where Red and Fallow Deer and Mouflon Sheep roam. Note the trips are during the dry season and weather is cool and very pleasant. The Accommodations: The hacienda is large with 14 bedrooms- all with private bath, two living rooms, private dining room, patio and porch overlooking the property. All bedrooms are deluxe and tastefully decorated. Our shooting party will have the entire hacienda. We stress that this is a high quality trip- we’re shooting one of the best estates in Spain. Many well known shooters make a yearly trip to shoot with Fernando and enjoy the ambiance of Pinos Altos. The Hunting: The first day we’ll rest up from the trip. The first evening Fernando will give an orientation about the activities for the rest of the trip. The following three days are shooting days. All shooting is done on Pinos Altos. We’ll have a full breakfast at the hacienda about 8:30 AM, and then depart for the shoot. It’s about a 20 minute drive to the shooting area. You’ll have three drives in the morning before lunch. You have a loader and
a secretary to carry your shells, shotguns, set up your blind, etc. Your only job is to shoot! A line of beaters- generally 40-50, will push the partridge over the shooters at their assigned pegs set about 15-30 yards down the crest of a hill. The birds will come flying fast and quick over the hill and the shooting is fast and furious. A good shot can expect to spend three to four shells per partridge. After the third drive we’ll break for a field lunch. This is an elegant affair with linen table cloths, fine china, etc. We’ll have paella, steaks, and partridge for lunch- of course accompanied by fine Rioja wines and beer. We’ll have one last drive after lunch- then return to the hacienda. There’s time for a shower and some rest before dinner. These are special affairs with traditional meals and an elegance depicting an era gone by, yet still here. Other Activities: Among the non-shooting activities will be a trip to Toledo, and visits to nearby typical haciendas, small villages and historical points. You may also choose to go shopping for leather goods, porcelain, ceramics, pottery and local wines. Trip Fees:
$14,875.00 per hunter and $1,200.00 for the non-hunter. The trip fees are based on a line minimum of eight guns. Description: Includes everything once you arrive in Madrid (including shells). Amazon Santana - Brazil
A chance for your Wife to show she’s better than You Trek Safaris has an exclusive couple’s trip planned on the Rio Negro in the Amazon basin of Brazil. This is a one of a kind offer that puts you and your better half on a deluxe river yacht fishing for the beautiful Peacock Bass, plus excursions into the jungles and backwaters of the grandest of all outdoor stages. Trek Safaris and the Amazon have been synonymous for over 25 years. We’ve sent anglers and non-anglers alike as far west as the headwaters and east to where the Amazon empties into the Atlantic. In between these points is the city of Manaus and what is considered the capital of the Amazon. This historical city is located on the mighty Rio Negro, a major tributary of the Amazon with its headwaters in Venezuela. It is up this river for over a hundred miles that the mighty and beautiful peacock bass lives. And it’s here that Trek has planned a very unique couples trip. Trek has contracted the use of the 115 foot river yacht The Amazon Santana for an all couples trip January 30- February 7, 2009. It will be reserved for the first ten couples only and exclusive to Trek and its members. We have chosen the Santana because of its beautiful design, elegant furnishings and superb service. The Santana also has the best native guides of any vessel in the Amazon which means you’ll catch more fish and most likely get an answer to all of your Amazon questions. Your host and manager on board will be Jus Celino who was born in Brazil and educated in the U.S. and is the perfect host for this journey. The Trip: Our adventure starts with a Friday morning departure from Miami to Manaus (Trek will be happy to assist you in making your air arrangements) arriving there Friday afternoon. Our group will then transfer directly to the Tropical Hotel. The remainder of today at leisure in Manaus. After breakfast at the hotel the next morning you will be met and be transferred to your charter flight to Barcelos and on to the Santana to get settled in. Sunday-Friday the group will be exposed to some incredible fishing for peacock bass, pirahnas, catfish and surubi. Our groups can also take part in daily excursions including visits to local villages and their way of life, jungles tours looking at bird and fauna, and backwater journeys where huge canopy forests climb to the sky and visit some critters here you may have not seen before. This trip will be as structured as you want it to be, with one thing for sure; every day your guide and private boat will go where you want to go and when you are ready. Each
evening the Santana will cruise to a different part of the Rio Negro and that is the beauty of having a motherboat operation. On Saturday the group returns to Barcleos for the flight back to Manaus and on to the internationa airport in time to connect with your afternoon flight to Miami. The Santana: The Amazon Santana is 115 plus feet of river yacht and designed for fast and safe voyages on the Amazon. It has 12 staterooms with a queen size bed and double bed in bunk style. There also two master suites with king size beds and all rooms have private baths and individual cabin A/C. The food and service on board the Santana is excellent and laundry is cleaned daily. There is plenty of room on board and gathering spots throughout including the top deck for magnificent views. $9,190.00 per couple from Manaus. Trip Fees: Description: Trip includes all charter flights, six days of fishing and adventure, all room, meals, open bar (except hard liquor), fishing license, and one night in the Hotel Tropical in Manaus. A 50% non refundable deposit is required. Trip is limited to the first ten couples. January - February. Season: Jan 30 - Feb 7, 2009. Dates: Trip Fee excludes international airfare and Brazilian Visa´s. Note: Pricing is subject to change and excludes any fuel surcharges.

Planes, Floating Cabins and everything else you need to chase Peacock Bass Trek wants you in Brazil for the world’s best Peacock Bass fishing. We have now improved on an already fantastic trip. Check out our streamlined program specially designed for these tough economic times. Trek now makes the Amazon accessible to all Anglers!!! The Trip: Trek Safaris has operated in the Amazon Basin for nearly two decades. As hundreds of our clients can attest, Brazil is THE place to go for shots at trophy sized Peacocks. We have utilized various methods of accessing this tremendous fishery; from motherships to land based lodges, but nothing we have done in the past can match these floating cabins for getting you into the most remote waters. The headwaters of the Amazon Basin, although very productive fisheries, are seldom visited by mothership operations due to natural barriers such as waterfalls and land masses. The Itinerary: Trek will now be utilizing eight passenger turbo prop Caravans, allowing anglers to fish almost virgin waters and not be structured into the lengthy mothership schedules. The floating cabin program will be a seven day, six night trip with four full and one half day of peacock bass action. Upon arrival into Manaus (Trek will be happy to assist you with your international flights) you will be met by a lodge representative and be transferred to your hotel for a brief rest before being flown by our eight passenger float plane to the area where our floating cabins will be stationed. Trip Fees: $3,650.00 per person. Description: Includes one night in Manaus, charter float plane, 4 full and 1 partial day of fishing and meals and accommodations at floating cabins. Excludes international airfare. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to confirm your reservation. Group Size: 8 anglers at double occupancy. Season: November - March. Game: Peacock Bass. Dates: Jan 27-Feb 2 (4 Spots), Feb 16-22, Feb 21-27, Feb 26-Mar 4. Note: Trip Fee excludes international airfare and Brazilian Visa´s. 30
Pricing is subject to change and excludes any fuel surcharges.
The Fishing: After getting your gear stowed and getting your equipment ready, you will head out to fish the remainder of the day. The next four days will be full fishing days and on the morning of the last day, the group will be flown back to Manaus in time to board your scheduled international flight to Miami, or if you desire spend the night in Manaus and fly home the next day. This trip is geared to the angler who is looking for an adventure to a spot where few have fished. Our anglers report up to 50+ fish per boat, per day with peacocks released up to 20 pounds. Groups are kept small, only 8 anglers per week so fishing pressure is never an issue.

Amazon Santana - Brazil
Ride on majestic Ship and fish the sportiest of all fresh water Species We are thrilled with our first seasons on the all new state of the art Mothership cruising the Peacock Bass rich waters of the Amazon. The Amazon Santana is 135 feet luxury ship equipped with the best guides, staff and service. Available dates for 2009 are going fast, so call Trek today to lock up your spot. The idea of a mobile fishing operation along the Madiera and Rio Negro Rivers of Brazil is not a new venture. In fact there are several “operators” in this region. But only the Santana has committed itself to fish waters where you will see volume fishing and not just trophy hunting. Sure it’s nice to take a 20 pound plus peacock, but not at the expense of seeing less action. Plus you might enjoy taking some giant catfish, piranha or surubi. Whatever it takes will be the guide’s motto. The Accommodations: When speaking of the Santana, we should actually refer to it in plural terms because there are really two vessels. There is the Amazon Santana and the Santana 1. The Santana is the newest in the fleet and is 135 feet of teak and mahogany with 12 nicely appointed staterooms and two deluxe master suites. Despite its capacity for 28 guests, the Santana will take only 20 guests or less a week to maximize comfort. Each room has its own private bath and plenty of comfort for a relaxing cruising vacation. The Santana 1 is 100 feet of the same quality design with eight staterooms and two master suites and can accommodate a maximum of 16 anglers a week. Both vessels are at the top of the list for food, service, staff and fishing guides. With a shallower draft and sleeker design, the Santana yacht gets you further in the bush and much quicker. This fact allows you the angler to fish some waters that may otherwise be inaccessible or hard to reach. Your yacht will have an aft-deck for relaxation and a sun deck for incredible views and plenty of open air. Your stay on board has been planned with the utmost in comfort and ease of travel as well as catching fish. The Fishing: As mentioned above, the Santana team is committed to putting you on the fish every day. They have assembled the best guides in the Amazon Basin and Trek can attest to this as they are virtually a list of who’s who in the region. Your goal each day is to catch some fish. Of course the main focus will be on the beautiful and aggressive peacock bass that is one of the most sought after fresh water fish in the world. Make no mistake about it, there are some real monster fish here, but we
will not devote all of our time to just the trophy fish. A bunch of 15 pounders will wear you out too. Each day the Santana will arrive at a new locale and your local guide will throttle your 17 foot Bass Tracker with Honda 4-strokes to his favorite spot and the rest will be up to you. The Santana will fish the Rio Madiera during the months August-October and the Rio Negro and its tributaries NovemberMarch. Regardless of your destination, Trek and the Santana team are committed to an excellent, organized fishing vacation. The Trip: This exciting trip will be nine days and eight nights. It begins with a morning, non-stop TAM flight from Miami to Manaus on Friday where you will spend this evening. Saturday, you fly to Barcelos and board your boat for the trip down river. Sunday-Friday will be six full fishing days. On Saturday we will make our way back to Manaus for your afternoon flight back to Miami. $4,595.00 per person from Manaus. Trip Fees: Description: The trip includes all fishing (also use of rods), meals, accommodations, licenses, charter flights and transfers. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to confirm your reservation. August-October in Rio Madiera and November-March in Season: Rio Negro. Peacock Bass, Giant Catfish, Piranha and Surubi. Game: Trips run from Fridays to the following Saturday, please call Dates: Trek for current availability. Trip Fee excludes international airfare and Brazilian Visa´s. Argentina - Patagonia
Patagonia. If you still haven’t fished When knowledgeable fly fishermen gather to talk about their sport, one destination sets apart the men from the boys. Trek has a program that will allow you to join that club. Enjoy the adventure of a lifetime while staying in the finest Argentine Estancias and chasing Browns and Rainbows on some of the most secluded waters in the World. San Huberto Lodge: This two story estancia is located in the shadows of the Lanin Volcano and near the town of Junin de los Andes. Its 40,000 acres are owned by Carlos and Carmen Olsen and has been in their family since before the 20th century. Meandering through the property flows the Malleo River and its willow lined banks are the stuff artist’s dream of when they open their canvas. But by far the biggest asset of the river is its teeming rainbow and brown trout. Whether you like wide open areas where the river turns slightly and creates quiet pools, or smaller sections where the water is swifter but the fish are less wary, the Malleo is an angler’s paradise. You will venture out each day to a new section of the river or you may wish to visit one of the many nearby rivers like the Alumine, Caleufu and the Chimehuin. All will hold rainbow and brown trout from 2-8 pounds. Your hosts will be none other than Ronnie and Gustavo Olsen who have fished these rivers all their lives and today have a reputation second to none. The staff of well trained, bilingual guides is some of the finest you will ever meet. Each guest will be well attended to as San Huberto accommodates 12 guests and offer only the finest mountain cuisine and accompanying wines. Collon Cura Lodge: Not too far off the highway heading southeast from San Martin you will come to an intimate lodge called Collon Cura on the river of its namesake. This small lodge has a total capacity of eight anglers and much of the same amenities as San Huberto Your hosts will be Nano and Malu Acuna who have done an excellent job in this capacity for many years. With its long and winding bends and steep banks that drop straight down, the Collon Cura offers a wonderful venue for a float trip. Using McKenzie boats the Olsen’s slowly work sections of the river and numbers of fish can be staggering. These float trips are a great way to cover lots of area and to see some of the wildlife like Red Stag and huge boar. Collon Cura is the perfect change of pace from the Malleo River. Anglers have sung high praises about fishing on the Collon Cura and the float trips are a big hit. We suggest the perfect itinerary to be four days at San Huberto and two in Collon Cura.

Those who love horseback riding will enjoy Meme’s Stable!! Arroyo Verde accommodates six quests with private baths.

would not suggest them. These programs will both include round trip international airfare from Miami on American Airlines..overnight in San Jose..commercial airfare in Costa Rica. 3 full fishing days with tackle on board. 3 nights accommodations at the preferred lodge with meals and open bar at the lodge. Zancudo Lodge We have sent Trek anglers to the Zancudo Lodge for the past 15 seasons for good reason, they produce. This is a lodge for fishermen, run by fishermen. Over the past years we at Trek have seen Zancudo Lodge grow from a small operation with a few boats and some cabins to what they now boast. The upgrades to the program include12 newly constructed airconditioned villas, a pool and Jacuzzi, a fleet of 10 boats in the 24-26 foot range all outfitted with new 4 stroke outboards. The lodge is also proud of the 50 world records that have been established. The group of captains here are likly the most experienced crew you will ever encounter and are responsible for most all of these recoords. Again, bottom line, Zancudo Lodge produces. Crocodile Bay Lodge This is the newest player in the area and without a double the largest and most diverse. The lodge is built on a vast piece of property on the Osa Peninsula, the most ecologically diverse place you will likely ever encounter. The accommodations are the most upscale of the three lodges and the fleet of boats is unmatched. As mentioned, this area offers a great variety of species. Well, the creators of Crocodile Bay thought the best way to access these fish was to have the right equipment. For that reason, Crocodile Bay offers 17 foot “flats” boats for the backwater areas as well as accessing some of the rivers of the region. The 27 foot “Rambos” are perfect for accessing the shorelines and the deep water where the big boys are to be found. The lodge also sports upgrades to a 33 foot Strike boat for the ultimate in comfort for your fishing experience. Lodge manager Toddy Staley and hisgroup of experienced captains will put you in the best possible position to catch fish.

The Fishing in the Marls just got a whole lot better!! This just in, Trek has agreed to represent a brand new facility on the Abacos. It will take advantage of one of the best bonefish habitats in all of the Bahamas; the Marls! Starting May 1st of 2009, the new Abaco Lodge will open its doors, so book today and be one of the first anglers’s to test these unexplored waters. Be the fist clients ever to call the Marls your front yard!! Stalk the elusive bonefish in over 400 square miles of habitat including outer cays that hold monster fish. Come and visit the most comprehensive fishing lodge on the island. Opening May 1st with a soft opening in April at reduced rates. A consortium ownership has recently begun to build a new fishing lodge on the western shores of Great Abacos overlooking the famous fishery known simply as the Marls. Few places in the world can claim as many bonefish and fewer still can claim an almost endless forest of mangrove lined habitat that attract them. The new Abaco Lodge is finally filling a void of having a first class lodge within minutes of some of the best skinny water ion the Bahamas. The Fishing: Using Dolphin Skiffs and 4-stroke technology, the best guides on the island will rotate your visits to include the short runs to the Marls that hold undetermined schools of bones from 2-6 pounds and pairs of fish to double digits. And cruise or trailer boats to the outer cays on the ocean and bay sides. The idea in the Marls is to be well positioned especially on the outgoing tides when the fish come out of the mangrove and into small creeks that become a bonefish highway. Your success is as guaranteed as your ability to see and get the fly in the water. Some larger pairs of fish can be Trip Fees:

The Accommodations: Abaco Lodge will house eight anglers in single room, air conditioned suites located on the Marls side of the Abacos between Marsh Harbour and Treasure Cay. There is also nice oceanfront fire pit where each of you has a chance to tell your story of the ones you caught and better yet, the ones that got away. Food, service and hospitality will not be compromised as the lodge readies to name their team. The Trip: To reach Abaco Lodge you need only to arrive at Marsh Harbour Airport where in minutes you will be whisked to the lodge. Treasure Cay is also an option where we can arrange transportation to the lodge that is 30 minutes away. Both Treasure and Marsh Harbour can be reached from West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale or Miami by non-stop commercial or charter flights. You may also get to Abacos via Nassau that is served by many major U.S. airports. Call the Trek office for assistance in arranging your flights into the Abacos.

Andros Island - Bahamas
Bonefish love our Flats and so will You! Trek offers two excellent options for flats Fishing. Limited dates remain so call us and book today. BAIR´S LODGE - The Trip: The lodge is located right on the beach on the east side of Andros just south of Congo Town where there is an airstrip receiving charter and some limited commercial traffic. We have found the best route to Bair’s is either a direct charter from Ft. Lauderdale or a commercial flight to Nassau and then a short 15 minute flight to Congo Town. There is only a limited amount of availability left for spring dates which is peak season.
KAMALAME CAY - The Trip: Kamalame can be reached by flying Continental Airlines from Ft. Lauderdale to Andros Town or by flying into Nassau and chartering a floatplane to the dock or wheel based plane to Andros Town where it is a short drive to the resort. You will find your stay at Kamalame to be in a relaxed setting and accompanied by fine cuisine and well attended service. Spring and fall is the best time of year to visit if you plan to fish.
The Accommodations: Anyone who has fished South Andros the last 15 years or so has heard of Bair’s Lodge. Originally owned and operated by Stanley and Andy Bair, they took a beautiful small cottage on the ocean and turned it into one of the most popular bone fishing lodges in the Bahamas. Back then it was called Bair’s Guest House and it had wonderful food and service along with Stanley’s Key Lime pie. Bair’s was a hit with anglers despite its remote location. The Bair’s sold their little operation back in 2003 to an Argentine company which operates some of the very best fly fishing lodges in the world, today as always Bair’s Lodge is tops for Bonefishing.
The Accommodations: This upscale resort situated on 96 acres along the Atlantic offers first class accommodations and terrific fishing that is very attractive to both anglers and non-anglers. Kamalame has a variety of rooms, suites and villas that are beautifully decorated in tropical Indonesian designs. You won’t find any condos or malls here, just you and your companion on three miles of white sand beaches against turquoise waters.
The Fishing: Bair’s has expanded from taking groups of six, to now taking a maximum of 12 anglers recognizing the vast potential of the South Andros fishery. Places like Deep Creek, Little Creek and Curly Cays are well known to the stable of great guides at Bair’s. The best thing about Bair’s is that you always have a place to fish, because you can run in the creeks in bad weather or cruise south to stupid fish on calm days. Bair’s has recently purchased new 18 foot Dolphin Skiff with new Mercury Motors that will allow anglers to reach their favorite flats quicker.
The Fishing: Andros is legendary, especially for Bonefish. Anglers have taken double digit monsters on this island, but it is the availability of so many fish in the 4-8 pound class that drives flats lovers to Andros. Guides use their 16 foot Maverick skiffs with four stroke motors to get you to the flats and then pole or wade to stalk the fish. While there are some very productive flats heading both north and south along the coast, it is the Jolters Cays that is the most productive area. While it is a solid hour away, it is well worth the run and those who like to wade will love it. It should be noted that you do not have to be an expert angler nor do you have to be a flyrodder, the guides will use whatever method is most productive. Trip Fees:
Bair´s Lodge: From $ 2,650.00 to $3,800.00 depending on the dates and number of roads. Kamalame Cay: Prices ar per person and based on double occupancy. Description: Includes all rooms, meals and fishing. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to confirm your reservation. Season: Spring and Fall. Game: Bonefish. As you will see, this is a very “hands on” operation run by serious fishermen, for fishermen. The boats will be moored just a few hundred yard from the shore on the tranquil waters of the bay in front of the lodge. You will board an amphibious vehicle on the beach which will transport you in comfort out to your waiting boat for a full day on the water. Lake Baccarac - Mexico
The biggest Bass are South of the Border Mexico awaits you for the greatest Largemouth Bass fishing in the world. Stay at the only Lakeside Lodge!!! Our season runs through May, so call Trek today and reserve your spot. The Trip: To get to Lake Baccarac, you may either fly a commercial aircraft into the city of Los Mochis and be driven three and one half hours to the lake, or you may opt to take a charter flight from El Paso, TX straight into the 5.200 foot strip at Bacubirito near the lodge. The Fishing: Lake Baccarac has always been known as a trophy Bass lake with weekly double-digit fish caught on a regular basis. The lake was stocked with Florida strained Largemouths back in 1978 and they took to their new surroundings remarkably well. The record on the lake is 19.3 pounds and anglers will tell you there have been many a bass lost that would eclipse this mark. Many of the guides are old veterans of the lake and are now excited about the new enthusiasm from recent reports. Just last week an angler released a fish that was 18.11 pounds and the buzz has yet to stop.
Guides use 18 foot Crestliners with 60 horse motors to get you around the 25x5 mile lake with 30,000 acres of water at full pool. While Largemouths will hit most any bait when they are hungry, it is the plastic worms that produce the biggest fish. Flipping to structures near shorelines and casting to drop-offs have worked best. While the guides have as much as 20 years on the lake, they will work under manager/ owner Rene Salazar who has worked with Trek at Lake Huites for many years. The main season at Baccarac is October thru May, when temperatures are moderate and water levels are stable. The Accommodations: Lake Baccarac Lodge is the first lakeside lodge ever built on Baccarac. It will accommodate 32 anglers in relative luxury compared with what’s been available in the past. Rooms have two double beds, private baths and A/C. The lodge is horseshoe shaped with rooms on the wings and the dining/bar in the center. There will also be an outdoor palapa where meals can be taken under starry skies or blue bird spring days.
Trip Fees:
$1,595.00 per person based on double occupancy (fee excludes airfare). $2,495.00 per person, based on 6 anglers for same trip using charter service to the Lake from El Paso. Description: Includes four nights’ accommodations with meals, three days fishing with license, and transfers from Los Mochis to Baccarac. A $1,000.00 per person, non refundable deposit is required to confirm your reservation. Season: October - May. Game: Large Mouth Bass. Dates: Call Trek for current availability. Travel North for Pike, Smallmouth, Walleye and Trout
Canada brings you three outstanding lodges: Pine Island, North Seal River and Minor Bay. Call Trek today for your June-July vacation getaway. North Seal River Lodge : In Canada at about 58°N and 99°W is a fishing lodge called North Seal River. It’s owned an operated by the Gangler family who have been doing this sort of thing for more than 20 years. What they do is offer a deluxe facility with over 7,200 square miles of fishing territory for some of the world’s best Pike, Grayling, Walleye and Lake trout angling. The NSRL accommodates 24 guests only in beautiful wood cabins that allows you the privacy and comfort you would expect and also a view of the wild northern Manitoba country. Here you will see pine and birch forests exploding in the warmth of summer and provides cover for the bears, moose, wolves and home to the eagle and osprey. But it’s the fishing that grabs your attention and for many catching trophy Northern Pike and the other mentioned fresh water fish are just the sort of confirmation you needed that you are in a special place. The North Seal River System was born of glaciers and formed 12 waterways and over 100 lakes. You will have the opportunity to fly out to some real virgin areas on Gangler’s DeHavilland Otter or Beaver for an extremely reasonable day of adventure. Getting to NSRL is easy, after an overnight in Winnipeg you are flown straight to the lodge the next day on their private charter flight. Minor Bay Lodge: There is no question that Wollaston Lake in the Province of Saskatchewan, is one of the best trophy pike fisheries in the world. With over 1,100 square miles of water, and many shallow water bays, Wollaston has the perfect habitat for Giant Pike, Walleye and Lake Trout. Getting to Minor Bay is easy when you consider it remoteness. You will need to arrange your airfare into Saskatoon where you will be met and taken to your hotel for the first night. The next day we take an early morning charter flight directly to Points North landing where you’ll be shuttled to the lodge. After a hearty breakfast, it’s off to fish a full day. The next three days are full fishing days and then depart the same way we arrived. All told this is a six day and five night trip with
four full fishing days. Along with the tackle busting Pike, there are some really nice Walleye and some huge lakers over 50 pounds. But make no mistake, most anglers come here for the Pike and June-August is best. The lodge accomodates 26 guests and is a mix of tastefully decorated cabins spread out amongst the property that will hold anywhere from a couple to a family of eight. Decoy Pigeon Shooting in Paraguay One of the most exciting wingshooting venues we offer is a decoying pigeon hunt. These big targets beat down on your decoys with wings set back and a determined attitude to feed. If you are lucky and the decoys are set properly, you may get that magical shot off that meets its target. Or, if you are not lucky they will land at their destination, take their meal and look to fly another day. It all takes place in a semi-dry region known as the Gran Chaco. Of all the destinations we promote for pigeons, the Chaco in Paraguay offers the most consistent high volume shooting of them all. And although this is no longer a startling revelation, it is still nonetheless remarkable given that of all the flighted species, pigeons are some of the toughest to find in large numbers. And it wouldn’t be possible without the efforts of outfitter Erik Von Sneidern who while teamed with Trek, built the first and only hunting lodge specifically designed and located for
Blue Water Fly Fishing Gone are the days when anglers who brought flyrods on a billfishing trip were exiled to the cabin. The reasoning was that flyrodders took too long to land their fish, thereby taking time away from terminal tackle anglers who were mostly the majority. Well fortunately times have certainly changed; in fact many blue water anglers are now frequently requesting the availability of quality fly fishing charters.

pigeon shooting in 2005. Picazuro Lodge accommodates eight hunters in single room accommodations and offers amenities like a swimming pool, two dining rooms areas and a wonderful fire pit where tales of the Chaco are told each evening. But by far the biggest attraction of Picazuro Lodge is its proximity to the hunting fields that consist mainly of peanut, sorghum and corn. These crops are cultivated by a Mennonite co-op group who are by far the most prolific farmers in this very remote region south of Filadelfia. Erik has done well to forge a business relationship with the group and while he gets the best fields to hunt, the farmers benefit by having less pigeons destroy their crops. Trek clients shoot an average of about 20 boxes of shells a day at these powerful birds that can come in pairs and groups. Your bird boy will have you set up in a natural blind and make sure your decoys are working. Then it’s up to you to pull the trigger and with a straight aim. No pressure here, except that you bird boy relies on your bag for his meals!! The season to hunt pigeons in Paraguay is short from April to June and many dates are already committed. Call Trek VP Ron Stafford for more details on Picazuro but don’t delay.
The evolution of fly fishing for billfish started somewhere in South Florida in the early 60’s and has progressed to the point of no return. Today Trek represents many offshore operations that offer fly fishing when requested and some offer it exclusively. In places like Guatemala for example, as many 50% the anglers we send there will try their hand at taking a sailfish on fly rod. And as in any offshore fishing operation, you must have a quality crew and boat and especially so when catching sail fish or marlin by fly fishing. It also helps to get as many opportunities as possible and the calm Pacific waters of Guatemala has no peer when it comes to numbers of shots at sailfish. The theory being that the more shots you get the better success of hooking a fish, but with the increasingly mandatory use of circle hooks the ratio of “fish up” and “fish on” have increased dramatically. Destinations like Sailfish Bay Lodge and Casa Vieja on the Pacific coast have some of the best crews and accommodations for groups looking for experienced fly angling or wish to learn. Both operations are adept at teasing the bill fish within range of your fly cast and instructing you when to tighten your line. As you work in tandem, your reward is a hooked fish that takes to the air while never having lost sight of the entire process. It is absolutely exciting and addictive!! Costa Rica also has the perfect blend of calm waters and experienced crews. Crocodile Bay and Zancudo Lodge near Golfito are two great locations as are Quepos and Los Suenos just south of San Jose the capitol city. Further north our crews in Flamingo Beach and Tamarindo were some of the first to fly fish in Central America. In Panama, our newest destination called Hooked on Panama has just purchased all new equipment for fly fishing and hired the best crews available. Call Trek today for a suggested date and destination. Have fly will Travel!!
Driven Giant Tinamou in Argentina
New Bonefish Hotspot in the Marls
In the spirit of European style driven shooting, Trek will offer a limited numbers of groups the chance to hunt the giant Tinamou (giant perdiz) in the La Pampa region of Argentina. In addition to this we will combine some incredible duck, dove and pigeon hunting as well. Driven shoots are extremely popular for our clients and involve a variety of species including pheasant, partridge, and grouse and generally taking place is some wonderful estate where it is truly a privileged and noble affair. We also offer a driven shoot in South Africa for guinea fowl that is always a big hit for wingshooters. The idea is to have the beaters work the thick brush or pasture that provide cover for the birds, towards a line of gunners who are well positioned in their assigned stands. As the birds get closer they will erupt over the hunters providing some fast and furious shooting. The driven hunts in Argentina will be slightly different in that you will be shooting all wild birds. This means two things, one the shooting will be very sporting and secondly the hunts will be limited to 5-6 boxes of shells. The driven hunts generally start mid-morning and take most of the afternoon and involve 3-4 different beats. The brainchild of this elaborate affair is one Luis Brown who owns River Plate Wingshooting
This just in, Trek has agreed to represent a brand new facility on the Abacos. It will take advantage of one of he best bonefish habitats in all of the Bahamas; the Marls!! Starting May 1st of 2009, the new Abaco Lodge will open its door as the finest bonefish facility on the island easily accessing over 400 square miles of gray ghost heaven. The Marls are a virtual labyrinth of belt high mangrove creeks, canals and small lagoons that make up much of Abaco Bay on the western shore. Any angler worth his salt knows that mangroves are vitally important for light tackle species like snook, small tarpon and bonefish as they provide cover, food and a home. No place we know holds more 2-5 pound than the Marls and even if you have never casted to a bonefish, you will get lucky here. Fishing the Marls is not a new venture; in fact Trek has sent many clients there from various lodges in the Abacos and from different points of the compass, but never from the northwest side of the island where Abaco Lodge is located just off the highway between Marsh Harbour and Treasure Cay. The consortium that owns Abaco Lodge are extremely knowledgeable about salt water fly angling and not only will target the Marls, but also the outer cays on both the ocean and bayside. Places like the Bight of Robinson, Cherokee Sound, Snake Cay, and Mores Island are all well known on the flats circuit and can be reached from Abaco Lodge. There are some giant fish in these areas but they are smart and require some skill as opposed to the Marls. Abaco Lodge will accommodate eight anglers in single room air conditioned suites and features amenities like a swimming pool , well stocked bar, dining room, and an outside fire pit where lies and semi-truths are heard each evening as the sun sets on your day. Abaco Lodge will be without doubt the most comprehensive flats fishing facility on the island. And if you prefer some offshore angling that can be excellent at times as well and Trek knows the best boats available for sailfish, marlin, dolphin and tuna. Getting to Marsh Harbour or Treasure Cay are easily reached from commercial and charter aircraft from Ft. Lauderdale, West Palm Beach or Miami and via Nassau from most major airports. Trek will be glad to arrange your air into either town. The season for fishing here can be year round but the peak is March-June and October-December. Call now to be one of the first to visit this exciting new destination. Soft openings are available next April for a reduced price. Call to inquire.
and has assigned outfitter Martin Puig to operate the hunts. Trek VP Ron Stafford was fortunate enough to visit the operation earlier this year and was very impressed not only with the driven shoot, but also the availability the Argentine “Grand Slam of doves, ducks perdiz and pigeons. Each of these species will be well hunted on a very professional level or we wouldn’t promote it. In any world class hunting operation it takes some investing and risks and Mr. Brown has come to the plate. Our home base will be the beautiful Estancia La Pampanea that was once a luxurious country inn and was refurbished as an elegant hostelry housing eight hunters in private suites. The owner of La Pampanea is a European trained master chef and some may view his meals as a highlight of not only this trip, but those you may have taken in the past!! It goes without saying, but you and your guests will be well served here. There will be four full days and two half days shooting on this trip. The mornings will be mostly high volume waterfowling where the ducks are on a daily feeding regimen that is the secret of any great duck hunt. The afternoons will be spent pointing your shotgun to thousands of dove over a waterhole, walking up perdiz behind Brittany Spaniels or warm up with a 6-8 box pigeon shoot. And of course the very unique and exclusive driven giant perdiz shoot.
