Shockoe Bottom Segway Tour • 9:45 a.m.–12 p.m. This tour is centralized in the Shockoe Bottom area. Among others, some of the sites seen on this tour are the Edgar Allen Poe Museum, the Holocaust Museum, the site of the 17th Street train crash, the Richmond Slavery Reconciliation Statue (one of three statues on three separate continents), the Triple Crossing (the only place in the world where three train tracks cross at the same point), Lumpkins Jail (a slave jail recently excavated, known as the “Devil’s half-acre” and the site of extreme cruelty during the Civil War), the monument to Henry “Box” Brown and the 17th Street Farmers’ Market. Segways require riders to stand while balancing on a two-wheeled machine for two hours (see photo). Leaves from the lobby of the Omni Hotel and includes a required 15-minute orientation.

Medical Student Career Fair
• 11:45 a.m.–1:15 p.m. You have the chance to represent your specialty and guide current medical students who are interested in discussing their career choices. Last year, more than 200 medical students talked with physicians from over a dozen specialties to learn more about the unique attributes of each discipline and the residency application process. The career fair is hosted by the MCVAA Medical Division Board and the School of Medicine Student Affairs Office. Please indicate your interest in participating on the registration form. The fair is in the new McGlothlin Medical Education Center, at the corner of 12th and Marshall streets. Parking is available in the “N” deck, located at the corner of Leigh and 10th streets.
School of Medicine Campus Tour
• 10:15–11:45 a.m. Student-led tours depart from the MCV Alumni House and features stops in the new, state-of-the-art McGlothlin Medical Education Center and includes visits to the simulation floors, learning theater, standardized patient rooms and more. Richmond Landmarks Segway Tour • 2:45 – 5 p.m. Leaving from the lobby of the Omni Hotel, the tour begins with a 15-minute orientation to make sure you’re safe and comfortable gliding around town. On this guided Segway tour, you’ll see many of Richmond’s well-known landmarks, including The John Marshall House, The Wickham House, Valentine Richmond History Museum, St. Paul’s Church, James River Flood Wall, Brown’s Island and The American Civil War Center at Historic Tredegar. Segways require riders to stand while balancing on a two-wheeled machine for two hours (see photo). River District Historic Canal Cruise • 3:30–4:30 p.m. Learn about Richmond’s fascinating history along the James River. Enjoy a great view of the city’s skyline during this hour-long cruise through the city’s canal system, which was established in 1785 and completed in 1840. Tour leaves from the Turning Basin at 14th and Dock streets. Located within three blocks of the Omni.
Meet VCU Athletes and Coaches • 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. Calling all sports lovers. Enjoy a casual lunch buffet with some of VCU’s athletes who will join you at your table. Hear from coaches and learn more about VCU Athletics. Sports Medicine Center, 1300 West Broad Street.
Grand Alumni Lunch • 12:30–2 p.m.
(date/time have changed from previous years) Alumni who graduated in 1963 and earlier are invited to attend this special gathering free of charge. Church Hill Segway Tour • 2:45–5 p.m. The highlights of this popular tour include Libby Prison, Libby Hill (beautiful views of the river and where our city was named in 1620 by William Byrd), the Masonic Lodge (oldest continually operating lodge in the country), the Adam Craig House, St. John’s Church (where Patrick Henry gave his famous “Give me liberty or give me death” speech) and Chimborazo Park (site of the largest wartime hospital in history). Theatre VCU’s “Arabian Nights” • 7:30 p.m. April 11 is opening night of Theatre VCU’s production of “Arabian Nights.” The show magically transports you to Shahrazad’s imaginary world of Ali Baba, Sindbad the Sailor, secret sorceresses, singing trees and wise talking birds. Directed by the internationally acclaimed director Gabriel Barre. Meet the bus at the Cary Street side of the Omni at 6:45 p.m. (Other performances are available throughout the weekend if you wish to attend on your own. Call the box office at 804-828-6026.)

• 6 p.m. Alumni from all Reunion classes are invited to gather in the new McGlothlin Medical Education Center at the corner of 12th and Marshall streets for an all-class Reunion celebration. Leah L. E. Bush, M.D. (M’84, H’89) will be recognized as the Outstanding Medical Alumnus, and A. W. ‘Gus’ Lewis III, M.D. (M’69) will receive the Caravati Service Award. Pre-registration is required for all, including the classes of 1964 and earlier, who will be admitted for free along with one guest. $25 for all others. Shuttle transportation departs from the Omni Hotel on Cary Street beginning at 5:45 p.m. and runs continuously every 15 minutes until the end of the event. Complimentary valet parking is available for those who are not staying at the Omni Hotel.
12th Annual Alumni Update CME Course • 7:15 a.m.–4 p.m.
Join alumni and faculty in the newly renovated Larrick Center. The topics are varied to appeal to a wide audience. Whether you are a physician in active practice or a retired alumnus who wishes to stay current, you will enjoy this opportunity to learn, interact, and connect with the medical school. Registration fee includes tuition, program materials, transcript of credit hours, continental breakfast and buffet luncheon.
