Who We Are


WHO WE ARE

American Apparel’s mission is to support fair employment practices and provide better opportunities for all working people.


BRAND HISTORY American Apparel was a vertically integrated North American apparels company that has made many headlines over the years for all the wrong reasons. American Apparel was started by its flamboyant founder Dov Charney in Montreal in 1989. In 1997 company moved to LA and eventually grew to peak at having 250+ stores worldwide in 2011. The company embraced “Made in the USA,� mentality and publicly condemned usage of sweatshops. American Apparel is mostly known for its provocative and controversial advertising campaigns. The company designs, creates and prints its own advertisements. Since 2017, American Apparel is owned by Gildan and one can see the drastic shift in the marketing and the overall mood and tone of the brand. Today, the company has closed all physical stores and sells its products through online only.

OUR NEW LOGO

American Apparel’s new logo draws inspiration from stability and togetherness. Symmetric appearance of letters “A� both top and bottom exhibit equality. Thick lines implemented exhibit stability. Letterform is intended to have the opposing characteristics. One can perceived small various geometric shapes as if they are pieced together from the letterform. This combination of strong & bold logo corresponding with lighter & gathered letterform is attempting to embody a message of having that a strong organization cannot stand without a group of people supporting it.

We used a lot of symmetries and geometric shapes in our new logo. This is not only for the purpose of embodying a message but to improve visual recall of our logo and brand.

The colors of American Apparel are warm and formal. We wanted to maintain the American identity but did not want to use the more traditional color scheme.

OUR SUB-BRAND COLORS

We have come up with secondary color schematics for our brand extensions. The color purple represents the extension that deals with education. The color light blue represents the extension that relates to connection and networking. The color bright orange represents the extension that relates to things that are fun and recreational oriented. The color yellow represents the brand extension that involves the service industry. OUR SUB-BRANDS

From the very beginning, we wanted the new American Apparel to be more than just an apparel company. We have ambitious goal in doing a lot more. In order to make our rebranded company appear less focused in apparels, we decided it was our best interest to come up with unique logos for different subsidiaries. Notice the consistencies in the type manipulation and the overall appearance of the different logos to enhance visual recollection for our brand.

American Aid will also run clothes drive where our goal is to provide clothes for those in need for free. Clothes and other donations can be easily done at your local American Apparel stores.

OUR APPROACH American Networking space is a co-working space where anyone can come to get inspiration for their career or project. We focus intensively on providing a melting pot for entrepreneurs and professionals to meet and network.

SIMILAR TO College Career Fairs DIFFERENTIATION Our Career Fairs will be targeting low income areas, prisons, and just about any area where a traditional career fair would avoid.
