Did you know that the monster motorcycle or super fast boat that you've been dying to get is probably up for auction somewhere? Likewise, you'll find cars, trucks and even airplanes or motor homes (gas prices notwithstanding). Maybe you're in the market for computers, office equipment, furniture and electronics such as big screen TV's? Wouldn't it be nice to get these items well below retail and department store prices for a change? Then, there's always jewelry, watches, artwork, antiques, sports memorabilia and other collectibles to be had at these auctions for really good prices. Other items that don't immediately come to mind when thinking about auctions include farm machinery, industrial equipment and horses and other farm animals. The list of items up for sale is usually available 3 weeks before the date of the particular auction. So, you'll have time to do some "comparison shopping" to determine the value (and price you might be willing to pay) before you go to the auction. Auctions are free and visitors are welcome. Why not take the opportunity to do a "dry run" so you can see what goes on? Be sure to get there early so you can inspect the merchandise. Bring the results of your "comparison shopping" to see how far the actual sale price differs from your estimated value. Among the folks attending, you will find other ordinary consumers like yourself - some bidding and some just listening and learning. You'll also find resellers/wholesalers such as the used car dealers, antique shop owners and dealers in used merchandise of all sorts.
