WEEKEND RETREAT Location - mohali (punjab) Feburary 2015 Status - underconstruction

WEEKEND RETREAT IS A MULTIFUNCTIONAL SPACE CREATED FOR LEISURE ACTIVITIES AND FAMILY GET-TOGETHER DURING THE WEEKENDS OR HOLIDAYS .

DESIGN The idea is to create a climate responsive space in a humid subtropical climate of chandigarh , where the Conditions are very harsh during summers and winters . So while considering that we keep our structure oriented along the north direction to get more diffuse light throughout the day and provided voids and opening for better wind movement inside the areas. The design is based on four major elements :

AESTHETICS : A rectangular block with added some more volumes on all sides is creating interests in elevations . West as

a long dead wall with some voids with vertical louvers helps in improving wind circulation . North and north east facade are fully opened with full glass panels to have a maximum view of shivalik hills as well as the surrounding farmlands.

NORTH WEST ELEVATION

Site is located in a rural settlement on STRUCTURE : A concrete folded plate is designed as the the main structure to cover the functional spaces . the outskirts of chandigarh and near FUNCTIONS : A big hall is the main area and divided into three different functions Sitting areas , Kitchen and services . to shivalik hills (lower himalayas) . It is EXPERIENCES : An approach to the main entry is an interesting journey in itself , one can enjoy the Variation of scale and surrounded by beautiful farmlands . change in space while going through it. The main entrance block is acting as a transition space inbetween internal and external one can experience of staying close to areas. After entering through it , a clear view of shivalik hills and surrounding areas can be experienced surprisingly. An extended nature and enjoy all seasons of climate. deck upon the water body gives it a floating feel and can be used as a nice sit out area.

EVOLO

Skyscrapers are always used to solve the problem of land ,they give us vertical Space to live ,work & leisure . In this case we are using it for industrial units. As Industry plays an important part in Building our nation’s economy so we can neither live with it nor ignore it As there presence inside the liveable spaces hamper our socio-urban lifestlye.

SMALL & MEDIUM SIZE INDUSTRIES ARE INVOLVED IN MANUFACTURING PRODUCTS

SKYSCRAPER COMPETITION 2013 Location - Indian cities june 2013 PROBLEM With the advent of industrialization in

Small & medium size Industries.

the far reaches of the country, a considerable share of the manufacture of raw materials or primary goods is being done in the small scale counterparts and later assembled in the final processing unit. As a result of this, a lot of valuable time, energy and other resources is spent for transportation and fulfilling other necessities. Also, it leads to a chaotic and rather parasitic development of infrastructure, putting an otherwise avoidable pressure on the living conditions and the land-use pattern, being neither desirable nor sustainable.Such is the case in many of the neo-urban settlements of India, namely Ludhaina, Kanpur, Ghaziabad, Surat, Indore and many more.

The idea The primary concept behind the design is the bringing together of such small-scale industries to a single place where all the

processes from the primary production to the recycling of the waste materials shall take place in single tower. • As a result of this, vast expanses of space shall open up inside the cities, which then can be used for urban regeneration and redensification of these areas. This would ease the pressure of the network systems and the infrastructure, thereby improving the living conditions for the inhabitants. • The tower shall be the single zone where all industrial work shall take place. • This hub shall be located at the outskirts of the city going vertically upwards, with all the necessary infrastructure in-built. • The necessary transportation requirements shall be catered by Rapid Transit Systems from the city and development of Transport Corridors for the same.

ADVANTAGES :

•More Greenspace would be there inside the city as the large area would be free from pollution. •Less amount of heavy vechular movement inside the city. •The rapid transport system would save a larger amount of time of travelling. •The land would be fully utilized throughout the day without disturbing the immigrants of the city. Final Product in the market. •There would be a more livable space inside the city. • These Industrial skyscrapers can be use anywhere as single or cluster unit , according to the need scale & type of industry in that city.

agarsen ki baoli LANDSCAPE TROPHY , NASA 2013 Location - new delhi January 2013 Located on the narrow Hailey Lane on the Atul

Grove Road (old Hailey Road) cutting across the Kasturba Gandhi Road, in the center of modern Delhi, is an ancient stepped well or Baoli. Agrasen Baoli (stepped-well) is said to have been built by Raja Agrasen, the forefather of the Aggarwal community. However, the architectural features of the Baoli resemble the features of the late Tughlaq period or Lodi age. This 14th century structure is believed to be amongst the ‘finest’ baolis in Delhi because of its innovative designs. Built with rubble and dressed stone, it measures 60 meters long, from north to south and 15 meters wide at ground level. The main feature of the structure is the long flight of steps flanked by a thick wall with two series of arched structures, the lower ones submerged under water and the upper ones just above the surface of the water. These steps between the walls lead down to the water level.

EXISTING PICTURES OF BAOLI Despite being situated right next to Delhi’s commercial heart, the Connought Place and Jantar Mantar, Agrasen ki Baoli is a hidden treasure that many people, even Delhi’ites, don’t seem to be aware of or have visited. Majority of the people come to CP for shopping, work and leisure. The Agrasen ki baoli, that lies in close proximity to CP, forms a great leisure spot.

IDEA cannought place

AGARSEN KI BAOLI

The basic design criteria was to create a mirror image of the Baoli that will compliment the existing structure, adding more value and zeal to the entire cultural landscape. The intervention aims at creating a more viable and user friendly traditional landscape that can become an everyday hang out place for the people. If we can somehow link the baoli, with certain informative functions, than that thing can probably add to the overall cultural value of the place. Moreover, it will also make the place more lively. Some of the proposed functions to enhance the overall cultural crop of the place are a Cafeteria, a Gallery of History , Library and a multi-purpose hall along with an observatory deck for the Baoli.

ZOZEN CAFE INTERNSHIP Location - Mohali (punjab) YEAR - 2011 Under supervision of ar. Jitesh malik

Zozen cafe was a Project which I

defintly enjoyed the most during my internship. It was a different experience of working on site. I stayed on site from the morning till end of the day. In this project ,I worked with different people like artists , architect & local labors skilled in mosaic , painting artwork & different services. I saw a very different approach towards designing a cafĂŠ . More interaction between faculty & students after the college hours and to have activities like music, artwork, were the main ideas while designing the cafe . There are two levels in the cafe , one is sitting on ground floor and another is the mezzanine floor connected by an internal staircase. In materials we used tile and mirrors mosaic for flooring pattern. Wall treatment is done with artworks , graffiti and paint.

ABOUT ME architecture + food + travel

I Vinay Suri would like to introduce myself by portraying my experiences and learning’s through the passage of time. I have always lived in Chandigarh, one of India’s first planned cities during post modernism. I started my formal architecture education in 2003; with a Diploma in Architecture from Central Polytecnic Chandigarh, followed with my Degree in Architecture from Chandigarh College of Architecture (CCA) in 2008. For two years between my diploma and degree I worked as a draftsman exploring the versatilities of the field gaining experience in design , construction , art and photography.

Looking forward to hear from you soon

Knowingly or unknowingly I have always had a privilege to experience and get the sense of planning and architecture as I grew up in Chandigarh and understanding the modern concepts of architecture and planning. During and after my education I have travelled throughout my country experiencing many cultures and societies of India; analysing that architecture is not restricted to the schools; as have been taught to us , rather is an experience to live more with freedom .

As per my perception a meaningful space can be created only if one understands people and their culture; else it leads to a waste of space and recourses. Thus architecture helps me to explore various aspects of a society, as it is not only about a space but about the people. After graduating I started with few freelance works along with teaching in Chandigarh College of Architecture (CCA) as a visiting faculty for architecture design and computer graphics. I would like to admit that teaching has enhanced my understanding for concepts in depth and helped me learning new things each day. To carry forward my learning procedure I would like to explore and work in other places of the world as there always more to learn.

Thank you
