ALF UNDRED CLUB
Located in London, Hampstead, the Lawn Road Flats was designed by Wells Coates for Molly Pritchard and her husband, Jack. For large sections of the twentieth century, it was a residential place and dining club to many of the world’s greatest artists, architects, and writers. Opened in 1934, it was a testing ground for many new ideas around living space and society. In 1937. the ground floor communal kichen was transformed into the Isobar by Marcel Breuer and F.R.S Yorke. Jack Pritchard also set up a supper club called The Half Hundred Club, so named because it could have no more than 25 members who could bring 25 guests. Each member was encouraged to follow the rules of the club.
“To be seriously and intelligently interested in food and drink and to possess no religious or other taboos or unsociable characteristics which may impede conversation.” Despite the numerous amount of prevalent social issues, members could gather and enjoy conversations, food, and drink, without any judgments regardless of their background, race, and religion. With the modern take and using Half Hundred Club’s belief as an inspiration, this project will design a cafe on the ground floor, communal kitchen of the Isokon building. This space will be perfect for customers and visitors to get away from the busy life of work, and study. The design also requires the space to evoke tranquility and peacefulness, in contrast to the bustling streets of London.

ILLUSTRATED SECTION OF EARLY CONCEPT.
CONCEPT The journey through and out of space will evoke feelings of being in a forest. An organic take to the cold city design. A strong contrast to the site, as it was an iconic modernist building. The main focus of this design will be the cafe with other supporting concepts. The front patio will be utilized into 2 spaces: for pathways, and for plants to grow. The cafe itself will provide varieties of space for different needs and numbers of groups and individuals. Every aspect of the design will embrace the intention to create separation from the outside world, a momentary escape.
STRATEGY Sun louvers and other complementary wood elements were designed through inspiration from Kenzo Kuma’s method. To create intricate design through the usage of natural materials such as wood. With an innate ability to merge architecture with nature and social responsibility. Indoor plants were carefully placed in the facade to act as a natural barrier to block the sun, which also provided unique shadows within the cafe.
Careful concrete walls were placed especially during narrow hallways to encourage touch. Alongside the space being surrounded by vegetation, the interior aspires to replicate a green outdoor space. Alongside vision, with the encouragement of touch and other senses, the desire is to enable the occupants to experience the space with all their senses. To feel at peace and comfort during their time within the Half Hundred Club cafe.

The Regency Town House 13 Brunswick Square, Hove BN3 1EH 50.823230, -0.158890
The site for this project will be the Regency Town House. It is a Grade I historic townhouse, now a museum, in Brunswick, an area of Hove in Brighton & Hove, England. The site’s nearby location is one of the most popular destinations in the UK, providing a vibrant and fun environment. This project requires the design to affect the interior while preserving the historic exterior facade. This multi-functional youth center will host different types of activities for the local kids. It requires spaces for two categories: peaceful and dynamic events. Despite the differences, it needs these spaces to co-exist, complement each other.

This program will be run by two individuals from the social center. Whilst hosting the program activities, it will also require 3 bedrooms. 2 for the program staff, and another for the guest; in case of an emergency such as a homeless child. The dynamic approach will consist of physical curriculums such as rock climbing, dancing, and outdoor activities. Whereas peaceful approach will consist of stationary, and easy on the body activities, such as yoga, book club, board games, movie clubs, etc.
