Ascension To Pallavi Goenka, Art in India has always been synonymous with life. Over the years, she has traced every form of art and understood its implication on the daily lives of individuals born into this culturally rich and diverse land. The heritage discoveries across the Indian subcontinent showcase a strong tendency of individuals documenting not just important events but enhancing simple rituals of day to day life. It is this understanding of Indian heritage that forms the crux of Pallavi’s work - adding a flavour of distinct art to furniture. She is inspired by the fact that the range of material used to create art in India traverses the gamut from mud to metal; each medium handled in a unique, locality specific technique that evolved to best express the talent and needs of the people in that area. From the palaces of kings to a humble man’s cottage, both design and architecture, have been an integral part of building a home. The kings often summoned an architect and an artist together for the construction of forts and palaces with the intent of blending beauty with function. This artistry was not limited to iconic structures as even simple structures like a hut made with

mud and hay has designs made of naturally sourced colours which bespeak beauty, symobolism as well as science. The beautiful thing about art and architecture is that, different styles are born amidst diverse communities, eventually become their identity. The traditional beliefs and religious philosophy soulfully connect to art and architecture, making it an integral part of daily life. With so many communities, dynasties and religions to boast of, no other country can outdo the technique and expression of India and her people.

With western influence setting in, the art industry has dwindled giving way to concrete structures with raw textures, sans any artistic appeal. The deconstruction of art and architecture that took place in this phase, never quite recovered. With her collection of furniture, Pallavi Goenka endeavours to keep the rapidly fading form of art alive by giving it a more contemporary twist. Pallavi merges art and technology to provide an unique experience of storytelling and functionality.
