Susan Schaefer Welcome to My World of Art

I am a Canadian impressionistic artist working mainly in acrylics. I enjoy painting landscapes, florals and animal portraits.

New Beginnings - 20 Years in the Making This is a collection of Canadian West Coast landscape paintings that, for the most part, I have experienced. A price list is available on page 26. Gallery inquiries and commissions are welcomed. Enjoy the Show!

A Little Bit about SUSAN SCHAEFER Born in the Canadian prairies, I began my passion for art at an early age. One day a traveling salesman came to the farm and talked my father into signing me up for a correspondence course on drawing. Shortly after that I bought my first set of oil paints, brushes and canvas. I was hooked! Fast forward (many years, many struggles, and many lessons later) I now reside on beautiful Vancouver Island in British Columbia Canada. I have just entered my 60’s, and I feel that I have finally arrived. I’ve been publishing the Island Arts Magazine since 2008, which has recently gone virtual. I volunteer at art galleries and teach painting classes. I enjoy gardening, traveling with my husband Jeff, and playing with our dog Chace. My life is full and I am having the time of my life. Everything that I have worked towards has led me here – to my New Beginnings. This work is a collection of western Canadian landscape paintings. It is a collaboration of my 20 years of painting, the workshops that I have attended, the classes that I have taught and the artists that have inspired me along the way. When people ask me how long a painting takes; I say “20 Years...plus a week.”

Outstanding 16 x 20

A walk amongst the mountain top forests gives a good understanding of the circle of life. The young fluorescent green sapplings sway around the old growth that are ready to topple and feed the earth repeating the cycle year after year. Isn’t nature grand? susan-schaefer-fine-art.ca

Willy Whiskers 20 x 16

It all began with Mr. Whiskers, a seal painting from many years ago. Several years later MS Whiskers appeared. They quickly became an item in the water world. Folks wondered if there would ever be a baby whiskers. Out of nowhere Willy Whiskers appeared on the scene. Rumor has it that he had been sent abroad to a boarding school and now he has come home to the island. Wonder what adventures he might get into?
