Leadership for the Digital Learning Age with Alan November

2014 Academy Overview School leaders play a critical role in ensuring that the investment in technology leads to direct improvements in learning. Many school leaders have not had the opportunity to develop leadership skills around managing increasingly complex educational technologies. The Texas Association of School Administrators is once again partnering with Alan November and November Learning to present a three-part professional development series titled Leadership for the Digital Learning Age. The series will feature a projectbased experience consistent with the visioning principles as set forth in TASA’s Creating a New Vision for Public Education in Texas and a plan for what to do the first five days of school. The academy will convene in January and meet again in April and May. Consistent with the project-based approach, participants will pick at least one project in the area of school improvement, including, but not limited to: Aligning technologies to standards Building staff capacity Improving communication among the faculty Supporting pioneering educators (e.g., The Flip) Globalizing the curriculum Increasing participation of parents and community Authentic and rigorous problem solving Leadership teams* of three to five participants, representing 20–25 visionary Texas school districts, will work together throughout the series. After the initial face-to-face meeting in January, and between subsequent sessions, district leadership teams will work on their chosen projects with virtual access through on-line discussion forums, webinars, and internet-based communication supported by Alan November and his team of experts at November Learning. * District leadership teams should include the superintendent, district and campus administrators, and teacher leaders. Campus leadership teams should include the principal, campus administrators, and teacher leaders.
