2023 ANNUAL REPORT a year in review

YOU HELP US GIVE transformational human services

2023 was a year of opening doors to new services and possibilities as we rounded the corner on eight decades of service.

Responding to a newly discovered need, we launched JFS Adult Day Services in Blue Ash. This service offers individuals coping with memory issues a safe, comfortable environment to engage in a diverse range of stimulating activities.

When an older adult named Jack called JFS just after October 7, he said he was feeling “alone and afraid.” We were able to alleviate his anxiety and help him find solace through the social engagement our K’vod Connect program provides.

Because of you... 400+ seniors were served by K’vod Connect in 2023

Helping Jack, and others like him, has required us to broaden K’vod Connect’s reach. Our services are currently reaching three times as many older adults than previously.

Responding to a growing need to support the emotional wellness of youth, we added staff to our Youth Mental Health Services, ensuring that every young person seeking support receives the care they deserve.

With the continued support of you—our funders, volunteers, and donors—we have every reason to believe we’ll be able to help, connect, and support even more people in 2024. Together we will bridge barriers and build connections in our community—well into the future.

INVESTING N OUR COMMUNITY

Fighting Isolation with Compassion and Respect

Fay has many close acquaintances, but due to age and mobility issues, few can visit with her. Fay, now 95, rarely leaves her home. Fortunately, she has found a solution for her social isolation: She now welcomes K’vod Connect Chaplain Miriam Karp into her home. The two discuss a wide variety of topics as they share their thoughts and search for truth and beauty in the world. “Miriam’s visits are very meaningful to me,” says Fay.

Hidden in Plain Sight: Key Lifeline Delivers When Needed Most

In 2023, Michelle* got word from a local hospital that her elderly mother had broken her neck in a fall. Despite the dire news, Michelle jumped into action, thinking, “How hard could it be to get Mom the care she needs?” But health and state bureaucracies soon had her feeling frazzled. Then a friend reminded her about JFS. In no time, our experts successfully navigated the red tape. “JFS helped me with everything,” Michelle said. ”I wish I’d thought of them sooner.”

Fridge Crisis Exposes Fraying Finances: Marci’s Story

Early in 2023, when Marci* was speaking with our care manager director, Lainey, she suddenly burst into tears. The refrigerator in Marci’s old house had given out and she had no money to replace it. “I don’t have family. I don’t have anybody I can turn to,” she said. Lainey responded, “We are your family; we’re going to support you.” JFS paid for a new fridge and Marci now frequents our Heldman Family Food Pantry.
