Scripps Ranch High School senior Dylan Darwish began acting when he was about 13 years old. He modeled for clothing companies when he was younger, and eventually the theatrical side of his agency reached out to see if he was interested in pursuing acting. “I went in for an audition, and the rest is history,” he said. “My favorite aspect of acting is influencing the audience with the way you tell a story. The feeling of being able to make hundreds of people laugh by simply saying a line is indescribable.” Currently, Dylan is preparing to star as Danny in the Falcon Playhouse production of Grease. “I’ve been listening to a lot of ‘50s music and watching professional recordings of Grease that I find online. I draw inspiration from others and use that inspiration to make something unique to me,” explained Dylan, whose past roles include Ponyboy Curtis in The Outsiders, George Wilson in The Great Gatsby, and Moonface Martin in Anything Goes, among others. Dylan joined the Falcon Playhouse his freshman year, as the theater program was being rebuilt at Scripps Ranch High School. While Dylan was already a working actor in Los Angeles – he’s guest starred in an episode of Criminal Minds! – he was passionate about learning and performing in live theater productions. Although he takes part in the productions after school, it

is theater class where he learns and tries new aspects of acting. “My theater teacher, Mr. Garcia, is definitely my inspiration. He pushes everyone in the program to better themselves and helps us strive to run a professional theater with young actors, not just a typical high school theater program,” revealed Dylan. “He promotes such a positive rehearsal space that you always leave the class feeling better than when you walked in.” Dylan also currently serves on the student theater board at SRHS as the publicist. He’s in charge of promoting the shows through all facets of marketing and publicity, from social media to putting posters up around campus.

As he looks toward college next year, Dylan is excited to pursue opportunities in theater, education, and computers and technology. “I’ve also taken a few engineering courses in high school and hope to take more in college. I’m the tech guru in my family,” he said with a laugh. Grease performances will be held at Scripps Ranch High School March 12-14 at 6:30 p.m. For more information and tickets visit www.falconplayhouse.com. ¢
