WILDLIFE RESCUE CENTER

A Sancturary for IIl, Injured, and orphaned wild at Chitwan National Park

ANIMALS RESCUED IN CNP FOR PAAST FIVE YEARS

BACKGROUND

Nepal-incredible biodiversity,-with a wide variety of flora and fauna

Over 40% of nepalese land is covered with forests Frequent news of human wildlife conflicts especially around protected areas

PROBLEMS STATEMENT

PROJECT JUSTIFICATION

According to the report from Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation (DNPWC), the number of deaths of protected animals due to reasons other than natural are:

Fiscal year 2018/19: 376

Fiscal year 2019/20: 138

Fiscal year 2020/21: 302

Provided that the conflict was avoided or astray wildlife was rescued on time or given proper treatment, the number could have been vey low.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

The general objective of this project is to design a built space for safe and comfortable rescue of wild animals that are ill, astray, orphaned or deranged.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

DNPWC along with Chitwan National Park - to construct an ANIMAL RESCUE CENTER in the buffer zone of CNP-at Devanagar, Chitwan.

Though the annual reports of the national park mentions the “ ANIMAL RESCUE CENTER” and some constructions going on in the proposed site, there is no significant planning or design of the facility.

– Mr. Ganesh Pd. Tiwari, Information Officer, CNP
