Sick? It May Be an Infected Root Canal

by Dr. Yolanda Cintron

As a holistic biological dentist for the past 26 years, I have helped thousands of patients restore their health. Today, I want to share with you a patient’s journey of chronic pain due to an infected root canal which she knew nothing about…a very common story that may help you or a loved one get to the “root” (cause) of your own issues.

Case Study - Mon Sherie, generously full of gratitude, wanting to share her story:

Recently relocated to South Florida, a beautiful, vivacious and relentless middle-aged woman familiar with the medical field, Mon Sherie had been diagnosed with different kinds of cancer. She survived all of them, including liver cancer at 25-years-old.

Being in tune with her body, Mon Sherie knew something was very wrong with her head and the right side of her face. The right side of her cheek close to the eye felt tight; the inside of her ear and jaw hurt, too.

She started her journey with a family physician, who said nothing was wrong. Frustrated, knowing that “this is not true,” she begins her mission, fighting for her life, with no help or support from the healthcare providers available.

She worked in the medical field with an eye doctor. Her eye was hurting; upon her consultation with the eye doctor, he said nothing was wrong. She then visited an ear, nose and throat doctor who also did not detect the tremendous infection brewing in the sinuses. What was the pressure actually from? We later found out it was an infected hopeless root canaled tooth on her maxilla.

One day, she woke up in excruciating pain. Her cheek and face were very swollen; she visited a dentist who treated her with antibiotics for a salivary gland “block”. All the doctors missed the root cause of all these symptoms.

She found our office. During our two-hour new patient experience, we shared and reviewed with Mon Sherie her Cone Beam three-dimensional CT scan, X-rays, and past dental and medical history, including many photos of the inside of her oral cavity. It was visually evident to all of us that her gums, past extractions and present root canals were infected and had destroyed the bone on her maxilla. The infection had gone into the sinus, under the eyes, inside the ears and into her brain. It is shocking for a patient to find out they will need to remove their teeth, but it is also striking it rich to have found the root cause.

As a cosmetic dentist, I was able to restore her smile in a few weeks; she is eternally grateful. She is a different person; she went from scared to happy, laughing and full of hope with her Marilyn Monroe smile. Not only did we clear her pain and infection, we also improved on her smile with ideal golden proportions with teeth appropriate for her face dimensions.

Today, Mon Sherie shared that before she came in for a consultation, she read everything I have written through the years, viewed my educational videos and drove by our office. She even came into the building to feel our energy. She cried as she realized that now when she touches her cheek close to her eyes, she no longer feels pain.

As a Biological Holistic Reconstructive Dentist with 26 years of experience, I consider it a privilege to support my patients on their healing journey.
