FROM DOWN UNDER TO HOVE

With the Quarter Final match up next, Dan Hughes gives us his thoughts on the upcoming match and praises the great strides the team has made in 2024.

Dan, been here a few months now. How’s life on the on the south coast?

Yeah, it’s been it’s been amazing. It’s a great part of the world to live in. It’s a great changing room. I’ve really enjoyed my time so far, and hopefully we can keep the ball rolling tomorrow night.

What do you think of life in Brighton?

The last few weeks, the sun’s been out, it’s been a lovely place to play cricket and a lovely place to live. The club itself has welcomed me with open arms, and as I said, the changing room, the boys, the coaching staff, everything, everything’s been amazing so far. So, I’m just looking forward to finishing the season well.

I think I’ve been talking to a lot of people around here over the last few days, really, who are saying that it’s not necessarily been easy being a Sussex fan for the last maybe decade or so. Are you aware?

I am aware of what this means to some of the people who come and watch Sussex, I am aware, like it’s been talked about in the change room as far as Farby’s talked about it. The last couple of years have been pretty successful for this club, and you can sort of see the crowds for the T20 they’ve sort of got around the team.

It’s a massive match today, how are you feeling ahead of it?

Pretty excited, actually. I mean it’s just another opportunity for us to go out there and showcase our skills. The guys have played some amazing cricket thus far in the blast, and I’m really excited for this group to see what they can do tomorrow night.

And like I said, it’s just another opportunity for us to showcase our skills. “

Top run scorer in the group stages. That must feel pretty good?

It does feel good. I think pretty much just comes down to the changing room. I think everyone’s very happy. Everyone’s very confident in the way that we’re playing cricket. And I think that helps individuals go out there and perform at their best.

So, yeah, I mean, it’s been, it’s been a great tournament. So far. I’ve really enjoyed the conditions over here. I mean, obviously they’re smaller grounds than they are in Australia, so kind of suits my game a little bit. And I’ve just, yeah, as I said, I’ve had a great time. So, I think enjoying your crickets the best thing you can do.

It’s been a successful Blast. So the fans have got gotten around the team, and the team are really appreciative that we get another sellout tomorrow night, so we’re just excited about what we can do.

It’s an excellent T20 squad that Paul has put together, how good is this team?

Exactly right. We’ve pretty much had the same team throughout the tournament, which continuity is big in T 20 cricket. If you get those combinations right, it goes a long way into winning games with cricket. And obviously the big fellas back tomorrow night as well. Jofra is available, so he’d be a huge inclusion to our team, and he’ll be great in the change rooms and out there in the pressure moments.
