Trees being felled and trees being planted

Edited extracts from draft minutes of the Environment & Planning Committee 23rd June 2022. SDNP/22/01353/HOUS The Barton The Street Bury RH20 1PA Front porch (after demolition of conservatory). This application had already been determined by SDNPA even though an extension had been granted to the Parish Council. However, the applicant was present so Councillors advised her that whilst they supported most of the application, they were opposed to the amount of proposed rooflights as it would harm Bury’s Dark Night Skies and believed a reduced number would be adequate. SDNP/22/01902/HOUS Willow Cottage Bury Common Bury RH20 1NR Addition of a singlestorey oak-framed pitched roof entrance porch to front elevation. Councillors support this application as they believed it would improve the design and character of the dwelling. Queen’s Jubilee Tree Planting. The Chair reported that the Beechdown arboriculturalist advises that it was unlikely that seven oak trees would fit in the Recreation Ground. It was suggested that three could be planted on the north boundary or just a single with a plaque. The Chair has found a nursery in Bury that could supply trees. Tree Policy. The clerk presented a draft tree policy but it was agreed to defer any decision until the next meeting. www.buryparishcouncil.co.uk

Fittleworth Parish Council

Queen jubilee, the Swan pub & traffic

Fittleworth celebrated the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in style with lots for everyone, we were so lucky with the weather although some ended up dancing in the rain at the party on the Friday, but it did not seem to damped spirits. Tea at the Palace was a real ‘Wow’ although the poor helpers were completely rushed off their feet trying to keep up with the washing up. A big thank you too, to all the cake and scone bakers and huge thank you to all the organisers of all the events. The Jubilee Planter unveiling of the lovely plaque, donated by the amazing Oakmasters, was superbly done by long standing residents in the village The Church looked amazing too for their special service, with their Jubilee flower arrangements. Thank you and well done everyone – a tremendous effort. The Swan pub We are still awaiting formal confirmation of the sale of The Swan by people who would like to continue to run it as a pub, but understand things are progressing well. Traffic We have now agreed to 5 locations throughout the village for the SID (Speed indicator Device) which we will now get set up and will move the SID around to keep motorists on their toes and make sure they keep to speed limits. We are now looking into installing Village Gates at each entrance to the village and are applying for a TRO (Traffic Regulation Order) to reduce the 40mph limit along the Fleet to 30mph. As before, please continue to report ‘nearmisses’ on traffic@fittleworth-pc.org,uk and a thank you to those of you who have already done so. www.fittleworth-pc.org.uk

Monthly news & information from the clerk

Platinum picnic It was brilliant to see so many people gather for the Platinum Jubilee Picnic on the Recreation Ground on 2nd June. Hundreds of people enjoyed the day, bringing families, dogs, even a candelabra! Thanks go to West Chiltington Silver Band who welcomed everyone, and John Limpus with his variety of bands, all providing the musical entertainment. Children were delighted with their vouchers for free ice-creams, served by T&M Ices; the lovely volunteers serving free tea and coffee had a steady stream of ‘customers’. The bar run by the Cricket Club did a roaring trade, as did the Pizza van run by Stone and Skillet. The Sussex Pheasant had their usual Thursday presence and were able to offer impromptu picnics. Immense thanks should be given to the team from Chanctonbury Leisure Centre who entertained the children with games during the whole afternoon. It was such a treat to be able to get together after so many restrictions, and helped by the beautiful weather the day was enjoyed by everyone. West Chiltington community Café Please don’t forget to return your questionnaire – we really do want to find out if residents would welcome a new Café. Several villages around us already have something like this, providing a friendly environment to meet up with friends or make new ones. So that we can get a true response, we ask you to take the time to complete and return the questionnaire - it can be done online or dropped into one of the shops or our Parish Council office. If you would like to discuss this with one of our councillors, please contact Nikki our clerk, details below. Your trees West Chiltington is special for its abundance of trees and hedges. Please consider very carefully before removing a tree on your land and check if it has a TPO. To reduce, lop or remove - always take professional advice from a reputable tree surgeon/arborist. In line with our emerging Neighbourhood Plan, please consider planting a hedge in preference to a fence or wall. Let’s keep our Parish green! Overhanging Foliage A perennial plea at this time of year – please check that foliage from your land is not overhanging road signs or footways. Digital newsletter Why not sign up to receive our newsletter directly into your Inbox? We do not use your email address for anything else – just go to the homepage of www.wcpc.org.uk and click ‘Sign up to our Newsletter’ Village Show – 16th July At the time of writing this hasn’t yet happened, so we’re hoping to be able to report back on a great afternoon meeting and chatting with residents. Neighbourhood plan update The Parish Council is ready to submit the Neighbourhood Plan to Horsham District Council to progress it to the next stage, which should be a referendum of residents. However there is now a new challenge to the process, called Water Neutrality which has delayed Neighbourhood Plans until further notice. For more information, email our clerk@wcpc.org.uk or come to a Parish Council meeting. Public access defibrillators The Parish Council already owns both Phone Boxes, they have now also taken on the maintenance of the Defibrillators inside them. The Defibrillators can be removed in an emergency but the first action should always be to dial 999 to ensure that professional help is on its way.
