School council, anti-bulling & Vikings

At St Mary’s we have an active school council. They have recently launched our whole school charity focus and their ‘Guess the name of the Puppy’ competition is currently underway as their first charity fundraising event of the year, the chosen charity is Guide Dogs. The council recently led our worship, to deliver the theme of Anti-bullying week, where they encouraged anyone in school who might be experiencing bullying (this could be in person or online) to reach out. Thank you to all of the children who took part in wearing odd socks on this day to support this.

Shipwrecks and storming a monastery formed part of the learning when Vikings recently visited the school to engage and immerse the children in their learning. The children had a wonderful time participating in drama whilst enriching their learning, they learnt about many aspects of Viking life including early parliament, burial and ship building.

Autumn term round up

Autumn term has been a really busy time for children at Storrington Primary with lots of learning and fun taking place. The juniors were lucky to have author, Jim Becket visit and talk to them about being a writer and his new book, “Caravan at the edge of Doom.” Jim spoke about what inspired him to become an author and the writing process. Party time hit with our own resident DJ and compere for our first school disco since lockdown. It was wonderful seeing the children having so much fun, enjoying the music and throwing some groovy moves. Singing is really important at Storrington, it brings us together as a community and really develops confidence, it is also brilliant for well-being. The children really shone with their singing this term as parents were treated to an Early Years nativity, an infant singing show and a junior Christmas extravaganza. We really were in the festive mood! During these shows we were proud to see our children from Ukraine perform at these shows singing their favourite Ukrainian carol. Storrington Primary wishes you all a very Happy New Year! www.storringtonprimary.co.uk
