Whole school STEM Day

Storrington Primary recently held a STEM day for the whole school. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and maths. We value the STEM disciplines greatly at Storrington as they are such an important part of learning and preparation for next stages in life. Bringing the subjects together enabled the children to design, make, build and construct a product to solve a problem. The children had to design a vessel to carry an egg safely to the ground without cracking when

dropped from a height. Children worked in teams across the school with a mix of age groups. It was fantastic to see the collaboration, team work and excitement the groups had for the activities. Watching the children’s faces as the eggs soared to the ground, was a joy. There were some ingenious designs for the egg vessels; it was a truly fantastic experience. www.storringtonprimary.co.uk

Chichester festival, carnival lights & bird silhouettes

Year 3 classes at St Mary’s CE (Aided) Primary Pulborough had an exciting day this week when they were visited by a representative of Chichester Festival Theatre’s Art Outreach programme. The children spent the day making and decorating paper lanterns, which will be used in the Carnival of Lights in Chichester on June 10. The children first of all made a framework of willow sticks in a pyramid shape, then applied a glue mixture to tissue paper and wrapped it around the frame. Once the glue had dried, they chose their bird silhouettes to apply to the sides. Birds were chosen as a link to the Pulborough Brooks RSPB and Pulborough Duck Race; also, as pointed out by several children, the Pulborough Rugby Club, which has a swan as part of its logo. Miss Heasman and Mrs Benson, the Year 3 teachers, were very impressed with the amount of perseverance shown by the children throughout the day. Thank you to Chichester Festival Theatre for this wonderful opportunity. www.st-marys-pulborough.w-sussex.sch.uk
