A Power of Attorney allows you to appoint someone, when you have full capacity, to act on your behalf if this should ever prove necessary. A common reason is mental disability. If a Power of Attorney is not prepared and someone becomes unable to look after their affairs, then the Court of Protection would need to be applied to for authority to act on that person’s behalf. This is a longwinded, complicated and expensive process which could be avoided with planning.
