Interview with local person Sheila Auguste...
Queen’s Park Person: Sheila Auguste Sheila Auguste has been a Queen’s Park resident for 15 years and is a Relationship Counsellor and Psychosexual Therapist.
don’t realise that the way we handle our stress may not be conducive to building a happy fulfilling relationship. It is also important to appreciate what is working well and build on that. I enjoy my work immensely; every day is different. I can be contacted on 07796 161707.
What do you most like about the area?
The location, I like being able to walk everywhere, into town, to the sea, the Downs, the Level, to work and of course our beautiful park. Tell us about your work with couples…
I have worked for Relate for ten years as a counsellor and for the last two and a half years as a Psychosexual Therapist and I also have a private practice. I work with couples and individuals aged 18-80 and all sexualities. Many couples come for counselling because communication has broken down. I always say to people that all the skills they need are within them, I’m just the facilitator who helps them to start listening to each other again. Usually when couples are in trouble it’s because they are ready for another development stage in their relationship but are having difficulty articulating that. There are many factors that impact on relationships; the stressors are usually finances, work, children and illness, to name a few. Sometimes we’re so busy living our lives that we
What is the most important advice for maintaining a good relationship?
Not to lose sight of each other in the busyness of daily life, what I call ‘life admin’. We should be interested in each other’s lives and not take each other for granted. Always take time out for each other, even if it’s just time to talk about your day, but also to do activities that you enjoy together. Work as a team to have the relationship you want. What else do you do when you’re not working?
I read a great deal both for work and pleasure. I write short stories and am writing a novel. I have house parties at which I’m the only guest singing very loudly and dancing like Beyoncé (also a very good workout). Yoga is very important to me; it keeps me emotionally and physically stable and I do it at least every other day. There’s plenty to watch on Latest TV...
Latest TV Highlights
October holds plenty of treats on Latest TV. As well as a fine selection of classic films from our partner Talking Pictures (including ‘Brighton Rock’), there’s a smorgasbord of original programmes for everyone. Music fans will love Noise Reel, DJ Box, Urban Expression and of course The Brighton Album Chart Show, as well as special coverage of some of this year’s biggest festivals – that’s Latitude and Shardfest.
Brand new programmes and ideas are arriving at Latest TV too, created here in Sussex. ‘Quintessentially Jessica’ is all about Jessica Kellgren-Hayes, teaching viewers how to sign the alphabet along with how to bake a sugar/grain-free muffin! And there’s the latest from the forefront of LGBT+ issues with Sophie Cook’s bang up-todate ‘Beyond The Rainbow’.
And, of course, Latest TV’s regular thought-provoking and entertaining regulars from The Vote, Latest News, Guy Lloyd’s 2-Minute Telly Show, Latest Homes Live, Albion Night and so much more.

This month we are hosting two concerts…
Music and Wine at St Luke’s New Series We are delighted to report that our fundraising project has been successful. We have hit our target of £10,000. On Friday 7th October, Ensemble Burletta (clarinet, violin, viola and cello) present Austro-Hungarian chamber music including Hummel, Mozart, Hans Gal and Kodaly. Includes pre-concert talk at 7pm.
On Friday 21st October we welcome back The Fretful Federation. The Sussex-based mandolin orchestra play their usual eclectic mix with Handel, Elgar and Scott Joplin as well as modern compositions and folk tunes. Guest

A new series of community rights events...
Your Community, Your Rights Have you seen some of the social spaces in your area disappear slowly? Do you want to do something about it? On 15th September residents from different parts of Brighton met to share their experiences in using the community rights established in the Localism Act (2011). There are 11 Assets of Community Value (ACVs) in Brighton & Hove listed by very passionate local people who want to protect the buildings and land that are valuable for their community. In your area, The Rose Hill Tavern, The Horse & Groom, The Independent and The Cuthbert are some of them. During the first event we discussed the unique experiences that each group went through to list the ACV and what needs to change to make it easier.
The next FREE event will take place on Thursday 20th October from 7pm to 9pm at FIELD, Preston Barracks, Lewes Road. The different groups are looking to create a network that supports communities to go through this process easily. We hope to see you there! Organised by: Let’s Co-organise and The Community Shares Company in partnership with FIELD.

Local News... Join a local food community...
Q
The Food Assembly Comes to Brighton A new way of buying food is coming to the Open Market. The Food Assembly is a local initiative that brings people together to buy fresh food directly from local farmers and food makers.
Every week Food Assembly customers in Brighton can order food online from local producers before picking it up weekly at a local venue. All the food comes from an average distance of 28 miles, compared to the 600 miles with a supermarket. Community is at the heart of The Food Assembly at the Open Market; it connects neighbours to farmers, neighbours to each other, and everyone to their food. For every £1 spent through Brighton Food Assembly, 90p stays in the local economy. It ensures your money reaches the right people; food producers keep over 80% of sales for every product sold, compared to 15%-25% through supermarkets. Also, there is less food waste as all the food is ordered in advance.
Weekly shoppers can choose from local products such as organic bread from Infinity Foods; juice from Brambletye Fruit Farm; and cakes and desserts from Brightsoul’s Kitchen. Not to forget vegetables and cheeses from Fletching Glasshouses and High Weald Dairy. The Brighton Assembly is organised by food-obsessed Sophia Harvey. It launches online on Saturday 1st October at 9am, with the first collection and launch event on Saturday 8th October 2016, 2pm-4pm. Anyone can come
