FRIENDS OF SOUTH DOWNS
An annual village show with car display, competitions, dog show, entertainment, stalls selling high quality goods, the traditional tug of war and lots more including delightful refreshments. Something for everyone. Join us on July 11th 2020.
Based in Pulborough, we aim to conserve the landscape of the South Downs and are an entirely independent charity. We help our members, along with their families, to enjoy the South Downs and run over 200 walks annually across the South Downs National Park. We offer a local discount scheme and organise many day excursions to places of interest. Single membership is £25 a year and we send a regular newsletter with updates on our work which includes our comprehensive walks programme.

Our first work party was held at Highdown Hill near Worthing after the great storm of 1987. We have grown in stature and have a core group of volunteers but would like to recruit more to help. We mainly carry out work on alternate Sundays with the occasional Saturday and also weekend tasks, once or twice a year. Work carried out goes towards their 50 hour volunteer card over a year (but not compulsory) which entitles the holder to free entry to National Trust properties and discounts in their shops and restaurants. We’ve had students from Plumpton and various other colleges and those working towards a Duke of Edinburgh Award. We are a friendly bunch and provide any new recruits with a welcoming atmosphere with squash and biscuits. We also have many social events. The Village Hall hosts a wide range of activities and you can be sure that there is something to interest you. There are sporting activities including table tennis, badminton, short mat bowls, and aerobics, but if you are looking for something more cerebral the Theatre Arts Group has a programme of monthly events. The Floral Club and the Horticultural Society have regular meetings as do the Women’s Institute. For “Strictly” fans why not try Line Dancing.
