Cyclone Fani a Lesson still to Learn

Today in 21st century, we as human being may reach to moon and create most modern technology to predict cyclones, tsunami and achieved many more but still we are far behind that supreme power. Someway it make a reality check as time passes. May 3, 2019: It’s a date always be remembered by Odisha, as a rarest cyclone fani hit Odisha and made unforeseen damage. For people of Odisha cyclones are not new. Almost every year cyclone came to Odisha whether it's a small one or a large. When the news of Fani came, preparation started by govt. to evacuate the people and tourists from coastal areas, 13lakhs people were shifted within a day to many shelter areas. Govt. aware people and fishermen through news channels, messages to leave kutcha houses, not to go inside sea etc. After so many speculation of landfall timing, it was confirmed that near 9.30am Fani will landfall in puri and near about 8.30am wind changed its pattern and speed slowly increased, all the power supply was cut off and gradually the rain started increasing. It was a terrible experience, to witness the devastations and can do nothing and became just a spectator. Only thing what I feel is the that sound of cyclone i;e the combination of heavy rainfall and wind, which is terrifying and it continued for 4/5 hours. After that Cyclone started weakening but not totally fade away. What devastation happened you can't believe till you see it on your own eye, it was horrible. Millions of trees, telecom towers, electricity poles it uprooted, the thousands of livelihood it destroyed, and the uncountable people on which it left a destructive impact. Few even died! Cyclone Fani had passed away, its impact has been hugely felt in Puri, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Khordha and adjoining areas. No light no water no food no road connectivity. People were in terrible condition. Govt. was prepared for reach to people with relief and for restoration work. It’s a commendable work by the people of Odisha, and Govt. They stand united at this horrible time. As it’s rightly said Rome is not built in a day. Like that to make a state progress/grow it took a long time, effort also money and cyclone like Fani destroy it within hours. We are prepared but still we lack behind, definitely will take a lesson and will be better prepare for Future. A small Note: The UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction has praised the government’s “effective” evacuation, highlighting it had “saved many lives”. Also: A report by Word bank praising Odisha Disaster Management in Phailin.
